This was a full update kitchen and expansion of the Island project. Debating few layout, stripping down to the bare bones and many weeks of labor, its finally done. Mixing cold and cool colors of pure white and grey, subway tile, hardwood flooring and plenty of storage space. I think we did good job!

Cornerstone Design Remodeling This is one of my latest project with Cornerstone Design Remodeling. This was a full update and expansion of the Island. Taking some space from the laundry room (behind the pantry) allowing for a larger footprint of the kitchen and of course more storage space. Mixing cold and warm colors of Crushed Ice and Vintage black, Subway tile and hardwood flooring to create a transitional kitchen with plenty of function.

This kitchen was designed for cooking, baking, and candy making. We tiled the main work triangle flooring for durability and easy cleaning. The client can cook and bake all day using the new 48” pro range and 36” induction cooktop. Countertop space is not lacking in this two island design. Taj Mahal quartzite countertops are beautiful and great for prepping dough or a cold surface for rolling candy. Fieldstone Cabinetry in walnut with a natural finish sprinkled with some macadamia painted finish gives the kitchen an elegant home feel mixed with all the professional appliances. I love the double stainless steel hoods. This kitchen has it all from form to function.

Enjoy meals and games outdoors by adding a dining table to your outdoor space. The Barcelo Dining Table is designed to sit up to 6 guests comfortably. This Chapin kitchen centers on Blue Dunes granite, a stone that earns its name honestly. It carries soft gray and blue-gray tones that shift with the light, moving from almost silver near the window to deeper charcoal in the shadowed corners. It's the kind of granite that reads calm and cool without going cold, which makes it a natural fit for a kitchen built around a farmhouse sink and a lot of white or painted cabinetry. Granite like this comes out of the quarry with real movement in it, so templating and slab selection matter more than people think. We lay out the pattern before we ever cut, matching the veining so it doesn't feel choppy from one run of countertop to the next. Once it's templated, we fabricate the top with an eased edge, which keeps the line clean and lets the stone's natural pattern do the talking instead of a fussy profile competing with it. The farmhouse sink is the centerpiece here. Setting an apron-front sink means cutting the countertop to expose the front face of the sink cleanly, with tight, straight lines on both sides and a level reveal so it sits right against the cabinet face. That's a step you don't get a second try on. The single-hole faucet keeps the deck simple and lets the sink itself be the statement, which is exactly how a lot of homeowners want a working kitchen sink to feel. Day to day, granite like Blue Dunes holds up to everything a real kitchen throws at it. It's heat resistant enough to set a hot pan on without worry, it resists scratching under normal knife work, and with a good sealer it shrugs off water and food acids for years without staining. It's low maintenance stone that still looks like it took real craft to install, which is the whole point of choosing granite for a hardworking kitchen. Chapin kitchens tend to mix classic cabinetry with stone that has some personality, and Blue Dunes splits that difference well. It's calm enough to live with every day but has enough movement in the surface to keep it from feeling flat. Once the backsplash and surrounding finish work are done, this one's going to read as a clean, well-built kitchen anchored by a stone that was picked to last.

Our goal for these clients — a young couple who recently relocated to the Pittsburgh-area from Phoenix, AZ — was to bring a touch of the sunny Sonoran into their new home. This subdued, sun-bleached palette feels both vibrant and earthy. A dramatic, shifting landscape that comes alive with the day’s changing light. Large format terrazzo tiles ground the space with muted, dusty green, ochre and amber. A nod to the tough skins of cacti, agave, and creosote bushes. A mixed finish glass tile backsplash adds pale yellow accents found in parched sand dunes. Three different cabinet finishes form our rocky canyons. Deep brown and clay purple hues like ancient cliff faces stained by manganese and iron oxide. Washed out skies reflecting warm white light. Golden brass details throughout gleam like the desert sun. By removing a wall in between the kitchen and dining room, we were able to add a working peninsula and pull the range out of the corner. This change opened up the space, solving layout and storage puzzles for our clients — without making the kitchen feel cold or contemporary. Smooth, slab-style cabinet faces paired with streamlined appliances and fixtures keep things low maintenance.

This large open master bathroom had plenty of room to install a large full walk-in shower with a slope shower entrance, floor to ceiling tile, a rain glass shower panel, a large tile shower bench, and multiple shower heads. The Process consisted of: > Removing all surround tile, wood window trim, fixtures, and a large tub. > Remove and replace hot/cold mixer shower valve and add a second mix valve and shower head, > Enlarged the area to a full walk in shower. Constructed a custom shower pan with a slope entrance. > Installed a sturdy Grab Rail > Constructed and tiled two 14" high by 16" wide niches in side walls for soap/shampoo, and a rear bench for bench. > Tile: Install 12"x14" tile on the, walls from floor to ceiling. Installed mosaic tile on the shower floor, and niches. Tile edges and transitions have Schluter Polished chrome edging. > Installed an 80" x 80" Rain glass panel at the front of the shower.

This project was all about adding life and colour to a new build home. Our clients love things colourful, they were feeling drained and uninspired by the builders white walls and grey carpets. Taking inspiration from some of their artwork, we added a deep reddish pink to the walls, ceiling and woodwork, a custom mix by Little Greene, to add life to the pool room which was flat, cold and unwelcoming. In addition to the paint we added drinks shelves, a new cue rack and an upholstered pelmet with integrated uplighting to light the exposed beams and add some drama to the space. The lounge originally had an inglenook fireplace and felt a little dated, so we added a media wall with built-in 3-sided fire. Taking inspiration from the existing Little Green Ormond Street wallpaper, we used pinks, oranges and blues to tie the room together. The open plan space, light and bright, painted in Portland Stone, needed a casual but compact daytime seating area. We again used colour inspiration from our clients collection of artwork for the colour scheme and designed a fully bespoke curved sofa to soften the angular shape of the room. We painted the hallway in Putti, a dark green/grey to add depth and interest when you enter the house. Using a crucial trading stripy stair carpet to add pops of colours from the adjoining rooms to tie it all together.

We designed several plans for the space before selecting the final layout. The new design required the removal of the soffit over the old sink, as well as a small wall beside the old refrigerator. The wall beside the stairwell had to be shortened 13 inches and a new beam installed to carry the load of the home’s 2nd story to gain enough space for the large central island. The existing closet pantry walls were also reconfigured as per the new plan. This serves as a great reminder that Dimensions In Wood is much more than just custom cabinets. Central to the entire custom kitchen is an 8-foot Walnut island. The huge island, which comfortably seats three, is topped with Essenza Blue quartzite. The stone’s natural striations are beautiful. Quartzite is harder than granite, and less likely to stain than other stones because of its density. The couple had to look through multiple slabs to find a piece they LOVED. The island’s custom Walnut cabinetry, built to resemble a piece of custom furniture, was stained Bronzed Walnut by Sherwin Williams. The 4-foot Galley Workstation in the island, handles all the kitchen’s prep, serving, and cleanup needs. The Galley’s culinary tools include an upper tier cutting board, upper tier drying rack, 2 lower tier platforms, 11″ colander with non-slip handles, and 11” mixing bowl with lid and non-slip bottom. A water tap with reverse osmosis filter provides the highest quality drinking water. To keep a clean and sleek counter we installed a raised air switch for the garbage disposal and integrated soap dispenser. The island also houses the Thermador Sapphire 7-Program Dishwasher with a hidden touch control panel and a custom Walnut wood front. The cabinetry under the Galley Workstation features a trash roll out, as well as storage for the culinary tools. Shortening the stairwell wall, and reframing around the stairs, which included shortening the handrail, also made room for a bi-fold door walk-in pantry with extra roll out storage and space for a small microwave. Above the panty doors is a remote controlled, electric motor powered, lift up cabinet door which hides a flat screen TV, used while the family is cooking. To the right of the walk-in pantry is cold food storage. The Thermador, 30-inch Freedom Collection refrigerator and 24-inch built-in freezer column with internal ice maker are covered with matching cabinetry fronts. An open display space was designed above the units, creating an aesthetically beautiful wall. To the right of the refrigerator & freezer columns is a tall cabinet designed for the built-in Thermador steam and convection oven. The convention steam oven is a relatively new technology for homes, but its versatility and food quality is amazing. To the right of this is a pull-out appliance pantry which provides easy access and storage for a stand mixer, blender, and any other appliance you do not want to clutter the counter. The most visible wall of the kitchen features the 36-inch Thermador Professional Series Harmony Gas Range with Griddle. Between the range and custom designed wood hood, a framed mosaic tile accent in the backsplash, creates a focal point. To clear the air, the Professional Series Thermador 42-inch ventilation insert provides excellent exhaust capabilities, as well as providing multi-level, vivid LED lights for beautiful illumination. The wall cabinetry symmetrically flanks the custom hood, utilizing deeper wall cabinetry on each end, allowing for storage of oversized dishware. The base cabinetry on this wall is made up of drawers, except for the corner, which is a Kesseböhmer LeMans II. This specially designed shelf system allows ease of access in underutilized blind corners. The dual action articulation system with soft close mechanism ensures a smooth open and close. Rounding the corner to the outside wall, the base cabinetry was built to a narrower depth, providing additional space for the island, as well as easier access to the new larger pass-thru window which serves the screen porch. The client selected Black Vermont granite countertops with an ogee edge to contrast the Linen White painted cabinetry. The door to the screen porch was replaced with a Marvin Exterior Door with a raised panel at the bottom of the 3⁄4 glass door. Marvin Windows replaced the other windows in the space increasing the energy efficiency and value of the home. To establish the breakfast nook, a bench with drawers and an upholstered seat was built into the bay area of the room. Custom bookshelves were built with open shelves, cabinet doors, and drawers on either side of the fireplace. A new stone hearth and fireplace surround were installed. Above the existing mantel we built a recessed space for the flat screen television hiding all wiring inside the walls for a completely clean look. The space that was once a desk was transformed into a bar area. The glass shelves and glass cabinet front liquor cabinet stand out. But this bar area has hidden secrets. Tucked beneath the black granite is a Thermador under-counter double drawer refrigerator with matching wood front panels. They blend in perfectly with the cabinets. A wireless printer is easily accessed on a slide out drawer. Plus, what looks like merely wooden panels on the wall are concealing recessed storage for more bottles and glasses! Overhead recessed lighting and speaker system provide illumination and entertainment through the entire space. This luxury home had original, solid oak flooring through most of the first floor which the homeowner obviously wanted to keep but were in desperate need of repair and refinishing. Our master craftsmen wove in new wood flooring to match the old where needed, particularly where walls had been changed and where the floor was damaged. We sanded the floors, smoothing away years of wear and tear. The entire wood floor was then uniformly stained, making it impossible to differentiate where any repairs were made. It is sometimes a surprise what beauty can lurk under the surface of a room. A client with a 1970s kitchen and eat-in area cut up by an unwieldy peninsula was desperate for it to reflect her love of all things English-and-French-Manor-Home. Working closely with my client, we removed the peninsula in favor of a lovely free-standing island that we painted a shade of French Blue. This is topped with Old World sink hardware (note the ceramic HOT and COLD medallions on the faucets!) and a gorgeous marble counter with a very special edge profile that evokes an antique French Boulangerie counter from the 1910s. Pendants with patinaed metal shades over the island further the charming Old World feel. Handmade white and blue tiles laid in a quilted diamond pattern cover the backsplash, and the remainder of the cabinetry at the perimeter is in a warm cream tone. The eat-in near the fireplace got a cozy treatment with custom seat cushions and window seat bench cushions in a classic blue-and-white Toile de Jouy matching the island stools. The nearby living room got a similar treatment. We removed dark wood paneling and dark carpeting in favor of a light sky blue wall and lighter wood flooring. The most visible wall of the kitchen features the 36-inch Thermador Professional Series Harmony Gas Range with Griddle. Between the range and custom designed wood hood, a framed mosaic tile accent in the backsplash, creates a focal point. To clear the air, the Professional Series Thermador 42-inch ventilation insert provides excellent exhaust capabilities, as well as providing multi-level, vivid LED lights for beautiful illumination. The wall cabinetry symmetrically flanks the custom hood, utilizing deeper wall cabinetry on each end, allowing for storage of oversized dishware. The base cabinetry on this wall is made up of drawers, except for the corner, which is a Kesseböhmer LeMans II. This specially designed shelf system allows ease of access in underutilized blind corners. The dual action articulation system with soft close mechanism ensures a smooth open and close. Rounding the corner to the outside wall, the base cabinetry was built to a narrower depth, providing additional space for the island, as well as easier access to the new larger pass-thru window which serves the screen porch. The client selected Black Vermont granite countertops with an ogee edge to contrast the Linen White painted cabinetry. The door to the screen porch was replaced with a Marvin Exterior Door with a raised panel at the bottom of the 3⁄4 glass door. Marvin Windows replaced the other windows in the space increasing the energy efficiency and value of the home. To establish the breakfast nook, a bench with drawers and an upholstered seat was built into the bay area of the room. Custom bookshelves were built with open shelves, cabinet doors, and drawers on either side of the fireplace. A new stone hearth and fireplace surround were installed. Above the existing mantel we built a recessed space for the flat screen television hiding all wiring inside the walls for a completely clean look. The space that was once a desk was transformed into a bar area. The glass shelves and glass cabinet front liquor cabinet stand out. But this bar area has hidden secrets. Tucked beneath the black granite is a Thermador under-counter double drawer refrigerator with matching wood front panels. They blend in perfectly with the cabinets. A wireless printer is easily accessed on a slide out drawer. Plus, what looks like merely wooden panels on the wall are concealing recessed storage for more bottles and glasses! Overhead recessed lighting and speaker system provide illumination and entertainment through the entire space. This luxury home had original, solid oak flooring through most of the first floor which the homeowner obviously wanted to keep but were in desperate need of repair and refinishing. Our master craftsmen wove in new wood flooring to match the old where needed, particularly where walls had been changed and where the floor was damaged. We sanded the floors, smoothing away years of wear and tear. The entire wood floor was then uniformly stained, making it impossible to differentiate where any repairs were made.
