Molly and Greg’s busy lives and their desire to have their children cared for in their home led them to bring in a full-time Nanny to help with child care and day to day home tasks. They wanted to have a comfortable place where she could spend the night and feel at home. Their preferred solution was to add a full bathroom and closet in their finished attic and convert it into an additional bedroom suite. We got to work designing a bathroom layout that would meet current NC Building Codes and find a way to get the main drain from their 3rd story down to the crawl space. We wanted to bring in as much daylight into the bathroom without compromising the amount of daylight in the bedroom, as well as install a larger window that would allow an escape route from the bedroom per building code, and also provide for plenty of storage space. We also converted an old water heater closet into a clothes closet. Our solution was to incorporate interior transom windows in the design of the bathroom to bring in copious amounts of daylight without compromising privacy. The modern 1/4 circle shower with sliding glass doors and cabinetry combined with the luxury vinyl floor tile created a wonderfully light, airy, and comfortable bathroom. The larger exterior window in the bedroom brought in additional daylighting and the addition of the clothes closet rounded the Au Pair Nanny Suite out!

This Jersey Shore vacation home was designed for relaxed, multigenerational living embracing a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Generous areas for outdoor dining and lounging extend the home’s footprint, creating an easy rhythm of summer living—where days flow naturally from beach to terrace to interior gathering spaces. The design prioritizes openness, comfort, and connection, reflecting how the family lives, entertains, and spends time together. Interior spaces are thoughtfully arranged to support both quiet moments and larger gatherings, with clear sightlines and an intuitive flow that keeps family and guests connected throughout the home. At the center of this plan, the kitchen functions as a natural gathering point without overwhelming the overall composition. Designed to support shared use, it allows multiple people to cook and interact comfortably. Structural elements, including load-bearing posts were integrated into the architecture as sculptural features—transforming a constraint into a defining design moment. Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances were selected for their durability, performance, and timeless design, ensuring the home will serve the family for years to come. The result is a home that feels both elevated and effortless—where architecture, interiors, and landscape work in harmony to create a setting for gathering, entertaining, and everyday living at the shore.

Willie & Leslie of Barrington Hills loved the location of their home. Its breathtaking views overlooked a wooded backyard and a captivating lake. They didn’t want to move, but they needed more space. But the house was missing that big family room where everyone could gather, relax and converse, and the house was completely cut off visually from the beautiful outdoor view right outside! They knew what they wanted meant building an addition to their home. They began searching the internet and came across Advance Design Studio, and after browsing through project after project and reading one outstanding client review after another, they were sold on Advance Design. Additionally, they loved Advance Design’s “Common Sense Remodeling” process and felt confident that it would allow the Design/Build company to easily coordinate the multiple projects they wanted to complete all at one time. Willie and Leslie immediately set up a meeting with Owner Todd Jurs and Project Designer Claudia Pop. When the meeting ended, they were sure that Advance Design were the right people and the right approach for their project. "Establishing a direction and a budget is always key in project of this size," Todd said. "This house was screaming for a family room and it didn't have one. Ultimately, it's about working together towards the same goal of a beautiful functional addition." The project consisted of a significant family room addition with an extraordinary vaulted ceiling and floor to ceiling fireplace, a guest suite renovation with a luxury bath, a garage addition, and an adjoining outdoor patio renovation complete with a fantastic built in grilling station. The main goal was to add comfort and space to the existing home that would last their lifetime, and finally allow them to capture the amazing view of the backyard and lake that they never could really enjoy previously. Willie, Leslie and Claudia paid special attention to designing the space to make sure that the footprint of the room did not interfere with the views. Floor to ceiling Pella windows were incorporated into a spectacular window wall to provide plenty of natural light. Vaulted ceilings gave the room a bigger feel and the stunning floor to ceiling masonry fireplace was designed giving the room a rustic, comfortable feel of a Colorado Lodge. Barnwood doors and exposed wooden beams accentuate the crackling fireplace and family gathering space. An oversized statement chandelier bathes the space in soft light once the sun sets and compliments the exposed wood and fireplace perfectly. “It simple elegant and beautiful,” Designer Claudia Pop said. “It is a great family room that captures the views perfectly. They love the fireplace, the barndoors and the openness of the space we designed for the whole family now to enjoy.” And when warm weather beckons, the outdoor patio is a terrific place to spend an evening. The family now enjoys fall nights in front of their outdoor fireplace overlooking the quiet lake. Dekton Trillium Quartz counters tops adorn an amazing grilling bar. Nearly indestructible, they are the only manufactured stone product designed exclusively to withstand high heat in summer and extreme cold temperatures in winter. The guest bath renovation makes Willie and Leslie’s friends and family feel like they are staying at a 5-star hotel. Carlisle colored Maple cabinets from Medallion make a roomy dual vanity more than adequate with plenty of space to get ready for the day after a peaceful night’s sleep. Cambria Quartz countertops are durable and elegant, while contrasting the neutral cabinets flawlessly. Heated flooring from Warmly Yours is the cherry on top for this cozy guest bath. All the projects turned out better than they even imagined. Remodel or Refresh??? We get that question all the time in our initial home consult. They want the space updated, but don't want to spend the money that a true gut and remodel costs. In this case we offered valuable advice of how to spend the amount they were comfortable with to transform the space the most changes possible. We kept the island and buffet base cabinets stained, but painted the perimeter and buffet uppers to brighten the space. New counters, lighting, a, backsplash, lighting, and hardware were also very impactful. But, the biggest change was removing uppers and creating a whole floating shelf wall with tile behind and sconce lighting. All of this was done with Landmark Remodeling

Custom Living Room Addition in Fairlawn, Ohio This Fairlawn home addition transformed an outdated rear entrance and underutilized exterior space into a bright, spacious living room designed for everyday comfort. The project began with a new foundation and structural framing before progressing through insulation, roofing, siding, windows, electrical work, and interior finishes. The completed addition features large energy-efficient windows on multiple walls, allowing natural light to fill the space throughout the day. The open layout creates a welcoming family room that connects seamlessly with the existing home while providing additional square footage for relaxing, entertaining, and spending time with family. From the exterior, the addition was carefully designed to match the home's existing siding, trim, and rooflines, creating a cohesive appearance that looks as though it was always part of the original structure. While it was presented to us empty, we still had input on the flooring, lighting, cabinetry, moldings and wall colors. We decided to go with a transitional design style and bring in furnishings with an emphasis on being comfortable for their large family and frequent family gatherings. With a love for family gatherings and entertainment of the immediate and extended family we knew from the start that our design had to be beautiful, very functional and durable. Having worked with the this couple’s parents and sister we knew the family, their style and preferences. We knew this multi generational family loved being and entertaining with each other and we knew from the start that our design had to be beautiful, very functional and durable. Since the family room and living room are connected we designed a seamless flow between them and unique ways to share the some of the furnishings between them. We began with a large sectional with cozy seating in the family room. We brought in extra swivel chairs guests could turn to the living room to converse with guests or swivel family room to and see TV. We love ottomans for extra seating in living room to accommodate 8 and can be pulled into the family room for additional seating. The carpet was selected with family in mind to look beautiful, functional and easy to clean. En route from the family room to the kitchen eating area we designed a fully accessorized bookcase that complimented perfectly the custom built “only by Margali and Flynn” built in desk with hid-a-way doors hide homework and and paperwork when needed. In the kitchen we created a family dining center on the large central island with lots of stools. In the dining area we installed beautiful dining set with functional leather fabric. We used suede with nailheads, a herringbone wool carpet and transitional circular lighting to compliment the traditional colors of warm blues and neutrals … all working together to create a sophisticated and comfortable feel.
