BEFORE PHOTO OF THE BACKYARD-
Here is the backyard before we came in and removed the small pergola and added the new patio cover. Notice the pink brick on the home. We updated that as well. The complicated roof line made this a very difficult project.

The challenge in this project was creating an attractive walkway from street level down to lake level in a tight area between a home and existing landscaping. Further complicating matters were the various location of utilities. The answer was using a modular block retaining wall product to construct this series of terrace walls with a poured concrete walkway/stairs winding through it.

Your whole-house remodel is just like buying a brand new home with all of your specific custom designs, to fit your lifestyle in every way.
However, all the steps can make it quite a complicated process. Kanler technology, project management, and service will help make the process pleasant, and stress-free.

This is a extremely complicated project which is part of a whole home to the stud re-imagining, but it deserves its own portfolio tab. To start with this room began life as the second floor of a two story living room. We created the step down by traying a portion of the living room ceiling below, and the walls, ceiling and floor are two layers thick with noise proofing compound between. The room is wired for 7.2 surround sound on the main TV and there are floor plugs underneath the sofas. the cabinetry is knotty alder and the cabinets under the tv extend in to a wall cavity that houses the homes data center. The outside wall contains 2 in wall liquor cabinets that have sliding doors for optimum storage. The entrance is hidden by a Murphy Door hidden in a bookshelf.

A swanky condo in an artsy neighborhood in DC calls for an eclectic mix of color, textures and styles. Styling a book case doesn't have to be complicated - keep it simple and symmetrical.

This four-story Victorian revival was amazing to see unfold; from replacing the foundation, building out the 1st floor, hoisting structural steel into place, and upgrading to in-floor radiant heat. This gorgeous “Old Lady” got all the bells and whistles.
This quintessential Victorian presented itself with all the complications imaginable when bringing an early 1900’s home back to life. Our favorite task? The Custom woodwork: hand carving and installing over 200 florets to match historical home details. Anyone would be hard-pressed to see the transitions from existing to new, but we invite you to come and try for yourselves!

This is the most complicated finish process we do. You start with rustic hickory, with all of its knots and imperfections. You then wear the cabinets, knocking down the edges in places that would see everyday use. The wood is then stained dark and painted in whatever color the client wants. Then they are worn again to reveal the darker wood under the paint. The whole job gets a healthy coat of lacquer to complete this amazing finish.

Sharon Contemporary
Harmony was the main objective for this addition project and a great deal of attention is paid to the overall composition. The addition takes cues from the existing and ties new and old with an open, light-filled design that further connects the home to the site and achieves a feeling of spaciousness. Large windows are the cornerstone of this home and the use of symmetry helps keep the massing in balance.
The addition includes a new kitchen, family room, breakfast and dining areas, new deck, expanded master suite on the second floor and a new three-car garage. The biggest challenge was to strike the best balance of privacy (especially in the master bathroom) and exposure to views of the outdoors. Complicating the task was the need to maintain the almost floor to ceiling windows while accommodating kitchen cabinets and a large walk-in shower. In the bathroom particularly, we take a creative approach to privacy and sun control without compromising the large windows.
Contemporary homes place a huge emphasis on entertaining, particularly outdoors. This home will feature an outdoor fireplace connected to a large deck, perfect for casual entertaining.

This customer came to us after a series of unfortunate health issues. They were having health complications that would simply not clear up. After seeing on the news that certain hardwood floors can cause the symptoms they were experiencing, the homeowner started shopping for a responsible, domestically manufactured hardwood floor that could be trusted. With our strict manufacturing standards, we were excited to re-do their hardwoods with this American-made product. The result? The homeowner's medical issues completely went away almost immediately. If we weren't convinced before, we certainly are now that what you put in your home is as important as what you put in your body.

It has long been established that a Vistafolia® wall goes anywhere, but what happens when the idea of the installation is that our artificial green wall panels go everywhere? Cruise ships are big business, offering passengers a taste of luxury and a 5-star treatment every step of the way.
Saga Cruises approached us to provide them with a low-maintenance green walls option that looked as good as the real thing. By installing our breathtakingly beautiful Signature Range on one of their outdoor areas, we did just that. The panels do not require any ongoing water or chemicals, and certainly have no need for an irrigation system – something that would be unnecessarily complicated on a ship. Instead, a simple periodic hose down will keep the wall looking its best every day, whether docked in port or sailing the seven seas.

The Timothy Hyde House, c. 1729, dear to the homeowners for its historic details, but long-lacking the family oriented spaces and living areas essential for today’s extended family lifestyle. Unwilling to compromise an ounce of character, this growing family longed for more practical amenities like a visitor’s private retreat with bedroom, living room and bath, garage parking, a proper master bedroom layout with full bath and walk-in closet, in addition to a new kitchen that would function as the heart of the home. Ultimately the total square footage was doubled and the entire flow of the home was reworked keeping all of the character details intact. The kitchen is the hub, serving up its center island topped off with reclaimed white oak once belonging to a barn built in the 1880’s; jet mist leather granite tops off the remainder of the kitchen. Custom cable lighting was the ingenious solution for the complicated preservation of the original exposed beams and posts in the kitchen. The barn door was custom crafted from original timbers. Many cups of coffee will be enjoyed at the cozy, sun-filled dining nook overlooking the family room and new adjacent deck. The rear, separate entry mudroom with step-up laundry was a long awaited luxury over the previous basement facilities. Moving upstairs, a centrally located bathroom was removed to create a wheelhouse style landing/passage hall, now home to a quiet workspace, featuring original wide plank floors and tailor-made sconces. Baths were added and upgraded including soapstone tops, marble, a glorious soaker tub in the generous master bath, all giving the home a taste of luxury. Bathing in sunlight rests the master suite starring the original beams, cathedral ceilings, and well-suited chandelier. Throughout the home strategically designed built-ins provide a plethora of storage and organization. This 280 year-old Colonial shines on brighter than ever. We are proud to have been part of its long history.
