Home office - contemporary home office idea in Los Angeles

The family room of this home was redesigned to reflect the airy French look the client loved so much. In order to avoid the mess and disturbance of demolishing the old brick mantle, Jess design a painted wood paneling facade to mask the old, and create a place for the tv. The bookcases that flank it have wonderful details such as french brass hardware, reticulated brass doors, with interiors sheathed in real linen. The desk area works as a lovely computer/work station with concealed file cabinets, and the bookcases are home to the clients lovely collectables. The existing cocktail table was lacquered white (previously was dark wood) and the sofa was made custom in cotton velvet from Duralee with 100% down fill for that "sinking in" feeling the client wanted. The simple drapery panels required a lot of yardage, so instead of using real silk, Jess found an amazing synthetic taffeta at Duralee that is so close to looking like silk, you have to touch it to know! (this saved thousands of $$ ) There was a large closet opposite the window wall that was opened up and transformed into a bar with custom barstools, and an antiqued mirror ceiling to illuminate the space. The pillow fabrics are from Nancy Corzine, the glass chandelier is William Crowder, the mantle sconces and opaline lamp are antiques, and the acrylic side table purchased through Lewis Mittman in NYC.

The full-height wall of cabinetry at the back of the kitchen conceals a mudroom and fully-equipped butler's pantry, which are accessed by walking through the cabinet. Key desk and tall window create a visual axis. There's an integrated computer desk to the left of the walk-through and a double integrated sub-zero fridge and freezer on the right. A sculptural Arturo Alvarez fixture creates a conversation piece above the dining table.

This incredible basement was created with family and colder temperatures in mind. The family wanted a place to retreat in the winter with a laid back, natural, California coastal vibe; completely different than the rest of their elegant home. Their wish for four defined spaces (living, dining, bar, and games) was achieved with unique and custom pieces all around. The large banquette was custom made to fit the niche and maximizes the seating around the large 90” table. The light fixture above the table adds a really industrial feel to the area. If that isn’t enough seating for snacking, the bar is large with plenty more seating and counter space. There is so much space to lounge on the large sectional, comfy chairs by the fireplace, or at the custom table behind the sofa which was made by local iron and woodworkers. It even includes an electric hookup for charging phones and computers. In the bathroom, we used vinyl wallpaper that is textured to look like wood. There are many other elements, like the faux painted wood barndoors and reclaimed beams and shelving that pull the entire space together cohesively and make it a place where everyone wants to hang out.

Behind the cool steel clad doors is the media center. Computer work spaces are tucked behind the frog graphic.
