The back garden was conceived as a spiritual meditation garden. It's laid out as three interlocking ellipses, each raised 6" from the previous. The links speak to life struggles, and ascent to a higher spiritual plateau. Perennials with warmer colors are sited around the first link, with flowers eventually turned to a pure white and royal purples and blues in the last and highest link. There's also a walking path around the perimeter of this garden.

Conceived of as a vertical light box, Cleft House features walls made of translucent panels as well as massive sliding window walls. Located on an extremely narrow lot, the clients required contemporary design, waterfront views without loss of privacy, sustainability, and maximizing space within stringent cost control. A modular structural steel frame was used to eliminate the high cost of custom steel.

SDH Studio - Architecture and Design Location: Pinecrest, Florida, USA Taking advantage of the site’s oversized width, this home’s Architecture was conceived as a series of volumes strategically placed to generate interior and exterior courtyards that become focal points within the home.

Crayons is one of the best selling ceramic tile collection conceived as elongated hexagons. The white plain tiles are offered in glossy and matt finishes. These items are characterized by light color variation. The background tiles of the other colors have only matt surface and more pronounced color variation. What is more, Crayons is enhanced by skirting, borders and L-shaped elements.

The sunroom addition replaces the exterior deck, connecting the existing kitchen and dining room. Conceived as an indoor patio, the room is finished with painted roof rafters and posts, double-hung windows, and painted wood ceiling. Conceived as an exterior extension of the interior living and entertaining spaces, the pool garden is fun and dynamic - especially in the evening. White pool tile and blocky granite give subtle reference to the building’s history as an ice collection and storage facility.

With this facade refresh, we encountered one of our favorite challenges - how to make a big impact with a small footprint. Working with the existing elements (door, windows, plaster) we added a modern awning to shield the entry from the elements, created a raised front patio large enough to fit a small seating group, and created a subtle buffer from the street with low, board-formed concrete planters. Re-conceiving the color palette, the house now forms a striking backdrop to the soft planting in front.

This cedar-wrapped poolhouse sits within the zoning footprint of an existing, dilapidated garden shed. It was conceived as an indoor/outdoor room, with three large barn doors sliding open to seamlessly connect the interior to an adjacent cedar deck and elevated 25-meter swimming pool. The space contains open showers, a toilet room and kitchenette and functions equally well as a spa in winter, with a Japanese soaking tub and sauna.

In approaching the task of form-making in this context, the Architect considered the surrounding vernacular architecture. The most distinct structures in the sparsely populated area are agricultural buildings -- barns and sheds. In the initial phase of the project, the living area was therefore conceived as an abstraction of the typical barn form. Alternately, the bedroom wing takes the form of the shed. These elements, along with a new front court that brings views of the outdoors into the new living and kitchen, overcomes the original layout’s small, dark spaces while the added wood and glass boxes bring natural light deep into the home.
