A dryset limestone patio creates a sitting area that doesn't interrupt the function of the grassy space. A kitchen garden by the porch incorporates herbs into an attractive and fragrant planting for easy access while cooking. A creek bed along the side of the yard directs water to the front yard.

This small front yard was transformed into a beautiful habitat garden. Ecological Concerns Incorporated removed the front lawn and replaced it with natural habitat space and native plants grown form our very own native plant nursery. Most of the seeds were collected from local watersheds. Permeable hardscape such as decomposed granite, as well as a rain garden and a rainwater catchment system were installed to aid in water conservation.

This project won in the 2013 Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh Housing Excellence Award for Best Urban Renewal Renovation Project. The glass bowl was made in the glass studio owned by the owner which is adjacent to the residence. The mirror is a repurposed window. The door is repurposed from a boarding house. George Mendel

A xeric yard replaced the standard builder landscape in Circle C. All HOA rules were followed, and this house has the most unique landscape on the block! The "hell strip" between the sidewalk and street uses Mexican feather grass instead of the traditional bermuda, creating a little more of a barrier between the street and the walk without intruding into the pedestrian space.
