Example of a large beach style backyard stone patio design in San Francisco with no cover

Amy Beth Cupp has been decorating all her life starting with the constant rearranging of her bedroom furniture as a child. Her latest project, however, was a bit more ambitious.
The floor-to-ceiling renovation of a barn house, believed to be built in the late 1700s, presented the challenge of a lifetime for Amy.
“No matter where you stand in the house, you can see the entire place, so I didn’t want it to become too chaotic and confusing visually,” Amy notes. For lighting, Amy selected only a few shapes and repeated them in every space.
“I knew I needed barn lights in my barn house. It was a no brainer,” she says. “I like the Original™ Warehouse Pendant Light because it straddles the modern and vintage line perfectly for me.”

The roof garden creates a beautiful spot of color and texture right outside the family room windows. The clients report that guests are momentarily confused, then mesmerized, when they see a garden on the second floor!

A transformation of a modest raised ranch into a modern oasis. I was the interior designer and general contractor from mechanicals to finishing. It’s also my personal home.
The interior design style is that of modern minimalist meets organic modern. I wanted a space that reduced distractions and let the eyes, head, and soul rest. Where everything inside the home has a specific use and purpose. The objects in our home are fewer but each hold a great personal value. You might expect to see this airy aesthetic, with its gallery white walls, in California or New York. Not nestled in a modest 50 year old neighborhood in Omaha, Nebraska. Creating a minimal aesthetic is one of the trickiest design styles to pull off. It is more than just less stuff and lots of white. It means sticking to these design principals:
-weaving in an abundance of textures
-incorporating natural finishes
-keenly curating art
-giving extra attention to scale
-limiting purely decorative items
-maximizing natural light
This style is not to be confused with the frugality of reductive design. I have incorporated many elevated basics that create an aesthetic of quiet luxury:
-architectural bead for trim-less doors
-first-of-its kind interior door hardware made of terrazzo
-historical marble found in landmark interiors like the NY Public Library
-premium flush air vents that disappear out of site
-luxury appliances from GE Café and Signature
-elegant and resilient terrazzo field tiles
Ours was not a simple interior remodel and addition:
-gutted and remodeled the existing 2,000 SF
-added on approximately another 1,000 SF
-moved and installed all new major mechanicals i.e. heating, plumbing and electrical.
-knocked through foundation walls to extend the space back
-dug down and built up

This project In Orleans, Ontario, Canada was a total transformation of the space from tired, confusing and dated to clean, crisp and colourful. The many accessories and details provide a nod to traditional with a modern take. The open concept space, has the colour scheme carry through to the family room with a custom fireplace built in and custom furniture, sourced with the help of Purdy & Associates Design.

These wonderful clients returned to us for their newest home remodel adventure. Their newly purchased custom built 1970s modern ranch sits in one of the loveliest neighborhoods south of the city but the current conditions of the home were out-dated and not so lovely. Upon entering the front door through the court you were greeted abruptly by a very boring staircase and an excessive number of doors. Just to the left of the double door entry was a large slider and on your right once inside the home was a soldier line up of doors. This made for an uneasy and uninviting entry that guests would quickly forget and our clients would often avoid. We also had our hands full in the kitchen. The existing space included many elements that felt out of place in a modern ranch including a rustic mountain scene backsplash, cherry cabinets with raised panel and detailed profile, and an island so massive you couldn’t pass a drink across the stone. Our design sought to address the functional pain points of the home and transform the overall aesthetic into something that felt like home for our clients.
For the entry, we re-worked the front door configuration by switching from the double door to a large single door with side lights. The sliding door next to the main entry door was replaced with a large window to eliminate entry door confusion. In our re-work of the entry staircase, guesta are now greeted into the foyer which features the Coral Pendant by David Trubridge. Guests are drawn into the home by stunning views of the front range via the large floor-to-ceiling glass wall in the living room. To the left, the staircases leading down to the basement and up to the master bedroom received a massive aesthetic upgrade. The rebuilt 2nd-floor staircase has a center spine with wood rise and run appearing to float upwards towards the master suite. A slatted wall of wood separates the two staircases which brings more light into the basement stairwell. Black metal railings add a stunning contrast to the light wood.
Other fabulous upgrades to this home included new wide plank flooring throughout the home, which offers both modernity and warmth. The once too-large kitchen island was downsized to create a functional focal point that is still accessible and intimate. The old dark and heavy kitchen cabinetry was replaced with sleek white cabinets, brightening up the space and elevating the aesthetic of the entire room. The kitchen countertops are marble look quartz with dramatic veining that offers an artistic feature behind the range and across all horizontal surfaces in the kitchen. As a final touch, cascading island pendants were installed which emphasize the gorgeous ceiling vault and provide warm feature lighting over the central point of the kitchen.
This transformation reintroduces light and simplicity to this gorgeous home, and we are so happy that our clients can reap the benefits of this elegant and functional design for years to come.

French Country - Modern shine brightly together. French Country projects are known to lean towards white vanities. This particular client was willing to make that artistic step; peacock blue was chosen for this Master Bathroom vanity. The color adds a very happy feel to the space. There is a confusion that white actually makes a space happier. Here is a little food for thought; white is never just white. Every "white" has an undertone and with every undertone there is a feeling that will attach it's self to that undertone. White then bounces light off of it's self continually. Therefore, if the space is all white, the light never stops moving. Color is a fantastic way to create calm, inspiration, hopeful feelings and an uplifted environment in a room. The backsplash in this bathroom is a 4x12 antiqued subway. The countertop is a porcelain, Laminam product. Laminam rarely splits at install due to the way the product is made. As long as you hire the correct porcelain countertop installer, Laminam countertops are a home run and handle abuse well. Rustic pendants were installed to create texture in the space. 18x24 porcelain tiles flow throughout the bathroom to decrease in the grout lines.

Leather Description: Dyes and waxes are hand applied to South American raw material to impart a transparent clarity. This coupled with substrate gives the leather a sophisticated, pebble grain appearance. All of the aniline dyes applied to the hides are hand rubbed in North Carolina by skilled artisans drawing from years of creative experience creating an impressive patina. The absence of pigments adds to the natural softness of the hides. A light protective top, utilizing a proprietary formulation developed by the tannery creates the exquisite touch Legends is know for and makes the leather suitable for active family homes. Because of the depth and transparency of this leather, natural markings will be exposed and should not be confused as defects or deficiencies, but appreciated as Nature's Autograph of Authenticity found in the finest full grain leathers.
Embossed Leather Description: The leather hide is first embossed with an ostrich pattern and then colored by applying two base color coats of micro pigments. The leather is then wiped-off to give it a contrast of colors utilizing the base color combination. This color contrast is further accented by two additional top coat colors that are wiped-on by hand to give the leather a beautiful antique look. The last step is to slightly protect the hand work of the leather hide with a lacquer topcoat that provides great depth and warmth to the finished product.
100% top grain cowhide leather is characterized by variations in shade, texture, color and grain. Healed marks and scars are to be expected and enhance the natural beauty of the hides. These variations should not be considered defects as they are normal and unique features of genuine 100% top grain cowhide leather.
Frame Construction: Made with American Alder Wood, our frames are glued, screwed and dowelled at the joints. Two coats of high quality stain is hand rubbed on the wood finish and then sealed with industrial grade clear coat.

This rather large family room remodeling project was done with a wide plank laminate floor. This product is made by KronoSwiss and this is from their Grand Oak Collection. It's a wide plank 12MM thick oak visual with an AC5 rating (very durable) with a very authentic look. Many have confused this laminate product with a real wide plank oak floor.

Completely custom outdoor living space built using TimberTech Ashwood Decking. The space features Custom Laser Cut lattice. This project also showcases a custom white vinyl corner pergola.

Transitional meets Traditional, somewhere in Atlanta, Georgia. If you're looking for sophisticated comfort, intertwined with easy living, this home provides just that. The mixtures of textures and styles allows this home owner the luxury of entertaining for the Super Bowl, all the way to gathering colleagues for an intimate dinner. You will find a little modern push, as you walk through this home, along with a New England flavor. It can be confusing on how so many flavors can be mixed into one space and still find a brilliant flow for the home. Part of the secrete is; undertones. The undertones of paint are the foundation to the ability to work with warms and cools together as a team, and within a flowing palette. Silver pushes through color, and can become different in undertones, depending on what is sitting near that particular color or texture that has the silver undertone.

We must admit, we’ve got yet another show-stopping transformation! With keeping the cabinetry boxes (though few had to be replaced), swapping out drawer and drawer fronts with new ones, and updating all the finishes – we managed to give this space a renovation that could be confused for a full remodel! The combination of a vibrant new backsplash, a light painted cabinetry finish, and new fixtures, these cosmetic changes really made the kitchen become “brand new”. Want to learn more about this space and see how we went from “drab” to “fab” then keep reading!
Cabinetry
The cabinets boxes that needed to be replaced are from WW Woods Shiloh, Homestead door style, in maple wood. These cabinets were unfinished, as we finished the entire kitchen on-site with the rest of the new drawer and drawer fronts for a seamless look. The cabinet fronts that were replaced were from Woodmont cabinetry, in a paint grade maple, and a recessed panel profile door-style. As a result, the perimeter cabinets were painted in Sherwin Williams Tinsmith, the island in Sherwin Williams Sea Serpent, and a few interiors of the cabinets were painted in a Sherwin Williams Tinsmith.
Countertop
The countertops feature a 3 cm Caesarstone Vivid White quartz
Backsplash
The backsplash installed from countertops to the bottom of the furrdown are from Glazzio in the Oceania Herringbone Series, in Cobalt Sea, and are a 1×2 size. We love how vibrant it is!
Fixtures and Fittings
From Blanco, we have a Meridian semi-professional faucet in Satin Nickel, and a granite composite Precis 1-3/4 bowl sink in a finish of Cinder. The floating shelves are from Danver and are a stainless steel finish.
Flooring
The flooring is a cork material from Harris Cork in the Napa Collection, in a Fawn finish.

Engineered quartz (not to be confused with Quartzite, another appealing natural stone used as counters) is a manmade product created mostly from natural materials. It’s made of 90 to 94 percent ground quartz and 6 to 10 percent resins and pigments that are combined into durable and nonporous slabs. The strength of quartz, even in a manufactured form, makes it naturally resistant to abrasion, scratches, dents, and even acids without the need for sealants. And the environmental impact of manufactured quartz is low: Quartz is an abundant material and the finished product is nontoxic and nonallergenic, and will last a lifetime, reducing the need for replacement.
Unlike solid-surface, Corian-type manufactured countertops, engineered quartz is not made to order. The product, like natural stone, is created in slabs of set sizes and thicknesses that vary by manufacturer. Caesarstone, for example, offers one slab size (56.5 inches by 120 inches) and two thickness options (0.75 inches and 1.25 inches). The slabs are fabricated to fit your project’s requirements (size, shape, and edge profile), and are installed in pieces.
