Architecture and Interior Designing has evolved significantly over the years in response to changing lifestyles, rapid urbanisation, and technological advancements. Today, the focus is no longer just on creating visually appealing spaces, but on designing environments that are intelligent, adaptable, sustainable, and deeply human-centric. Elite 18 reflects this evolution through a modern residential narrative that balances functionality, comfort, and emotional well-being.
Designed by Sandeep & Shreya Sahani, the project responds thoughtfully to the demands of contemporary urban living. As cities continue to grow denser, architecture is increasingly shifting towards smarter planning and efficient use of space. Compact yet breathable layouts, multifunctional areas, and vertical living concepts are becoming essential in modern residential developments. At Elite 18, the design approach embraces openness, fluidity, and practicality, ensuring that spaces remain functional while maintaining a sense of luxury and calm.
Changing lifestyles have also transformed the way homes are designed. With remote work and flexible routines becoming part of everyday life, modern residences now require adaptable spaces that can seamlessly support work, leisure, and social interaction. The interiors at Elite 18 are curated with clean lines, soothing tones, and uncluttered layouts that enhance comfort while supporting modern living patterns.
Technology has further reshaped architecture by introducing smarter and more responsive environments. Contemporary buildings increasingly integrate smart lighting, climate control systems, touchless features, and digital planning tools to improve convenience and efficiency. This Greek Revival row house in Boerum Hill was previously owned by a local architect who renovated it several times, including the addition of a two-story steel and glass extension at the rear. The new owners came to us seeking to restore the house and its original formality, while adapting it to the modern needs of a family of five. The detailing of the 25 x 36 foot structure had been lost and required some sleuthing into the history of Greek Revival style in historic Brooklyn neighborhoods.
In addition to completely re-framing the interior, the house also required a new south-facing brick façade due to significant deterioration. The modern extension was replaced with a more traditionally detailed wood and copper- clad bay, still open to natural light and the garden view without sacrificing comfort. The kitchen was relocated from the first floor to the garden level with an adjacent formal dining room. Both rooms were enlarged from their previous iterations to accommodate weekly dinners with extended family. The kitchen includes a home office and breakfast nook that doubles as a homework station. The cellar level was further excavated to accommodate finished storage space and a playroom where activity can be monitored from the kitchen workspaces.
The parlor floor is now reserved for entertaining. New pocket doors can be closed to separate the formal front parlor from the more relaxed back portion, where the family plays games or watches TV together. At the end of the hall, a powder room with brass details, and a luxe bar with antique mirrored backsplash and stone tile flooring, leads to the deck and direct garden access. Because of the property width, the house is able to provide ample space for the interior program within a shorter footprint. This allows the garden to remain expansive, with a small lawn for play, an outdoor food preparation area with a cast-in-place concrete bench, and a place for entertaining towards the rear. The newly designed landscaping will continue to develop, further enhancing the yard’s feeling of escape, and filling-in the views from the kitchen and back parlor above. A less visible, but equally as conscious, addition is a rooftop PV solar array that provides nearly 100% of the daily electrical usage, with the exception of the AC system on hot summer days.
The well-appointed interiors connect the traditional backdrop of the home to a youthful take on classic design and functionality. The materials are elegant without being precious, accommodating a young, growing family. Unique colors and patterns provide a feeling of luxury while inviting inhabitants and guests to relax and enjoy this classic Brooklyn brownstone.

The A7 Series aluminum windows with triple-pane glazing were paired with custom-designed Ultra Lift and Slide doors to provide comfort, efficiency, and seamless design integration of fenestration products. Triple pane glazing units with high-performance spacers, low iron glass, multiple air seals, and a continuous thermal break make these windows and doors incomparable to the traditional aluminum window and door products of the past. Not to mention – these large-scale sliding doors have been fitted with motors hidden in the ceiling, which allow the doors to open flush into wall pockets at the press of a button.
This seamless aluminum door system is a true custom solution for a homeowner that wanted the largest expanses of glass possible to disappear from sight with minimal effort. The enormous doors slide completely out of view, allowing the interior and exterior to blur into a single living space. By integrating the ultra-modern desert home into the surrounding landscape, this residence is able to adapt and evolve as the seasons change – providing a comfortable, beautiful, and luxurious environment all year long.

Expansive Glass Wall Transforms Home into Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Retreat
For this Campbell, CA, homeowner, the goal was to blur the boundaries between inside and out. The goal was to expand the living areas into the outdoor patio, making the home feel larger, more welcoming, and better suited for both relaxing and entertaining. Bringing the homeowner’s vision to life, Brad Cox, Architect, Inc., specified two aluminum framed folding glass walls to connect the primary living spaces to the outdoors.

Expanding Space with Light and Openness with Folding Glass Walls
The installation of NanaWall folding glass walls reimagined the home’s main living area as a continuous flow between the kitchen, dining, and outdoor patio. When fully open, the doors erase the boundary between interior and exterior spaces, creating a single, interconnected space for day-to-day living. Even when closed, the floor-to-ceiling glass panels flood the home with natural light, establishing a bright, uplifting atmosphere that enhances comfort and connection to nature.
A Seamless Connection to the Outdoor Environment
According to the homeowner, “With the folding glass walls, our outdoor space became a true extension of our home. When open, the doors completely remove the barrier between the interior and the outside, allowing the two areas to merge into one continuous, functional space.” The result is a living space that feels larger, more inviting, and perfectly adapted to the rhythms of family life and social gatherings alike.
“One of the most compelling reasons we chose NanaWall was how their doors create a truly open living space between indoors and outdoors. Choosing NanaWall also meant choosing high-quality craftsmanship and design flexibility. Their systems are built to withstand various weather conditions while maintaining energy efficiency, security, and ease of use,” — Homeowner.

Tradition meets today in this pared-down classic. The enduring charm of inset cabinetry is combined with double-door wall cabinets, a graceful ogee profile, and recessed panel doors to recall vintage style. The color scheme establishes the light / dark theme: white perimeter cabinets support honed “Jet Mist” granite tops, while the black paneled island features 2” thick marble-like quartz. Antique bin pulls are reinterpreted here with an updated square silhouette and repeat the brass accents on the knobs and island pendant trims. Continuing the nostalgia is the timeless apron-front “farmhouse” sink. Handmade subway tiles yield understated depth to the backsplash. Holding the place of honor over the range is a mosaic of stylized houndstooth echoing the neutral palette. That pattern is playfully reiterated in the pillows on the paneled banquette. Contemporary touches are found in the cheerful red cushion, double tripod table base, and the simple brass-lined dome pendant. Adjacent to the kitchen is a dramatic black wet bar whose Gothic mullion doors reflect the curve of the demilune base cabinet. The focal point is another mosaic backsplash, here with a diamond motif. Mixed metals make a statement with a satin nickel faucet, hammered nickel bar sink, and brass decorative hardware. This project was designed by Bilotta Designer Paula Greer in collaboration with Maria LoIacono Interiors. Written by Paulette Gambacorta adapted for Houzz.

A married pair of artists sought to expand and adapt this salt box-style house into a functional, attractive live/work space while retaining certain nostalgic elements (this was the wife’s childhood home.) Their objectives included adding on a dining room; expanding the master bedroom and downstairs studio spaces; maximizing natural light; and continuing occupancy throughout.
The through-block property is sited between a high-traffic road and another that provides vehicular access to the house. The architect’s solution effectively reversed the entry sequence. The studio elevation, with the master bedroom, dining room and terrace above, is now the formal front of the house, while the former front entrance from the busy road is now secondary.
Today, visitors arrive at the new primary entrance, greeted by a façade suggesting a simple folded ribbon: metal panels that wrap the expanded master bedroom and the new terrace.
Recladding with fiber cement composite rainscreen (a choice inspired by the clients’ travels in Finland) unifies the addition with the existing. The new dining room enjoys views of Meadowlands sunsets through the 12-foot length of full-height glass and the cable rails of the new deck outside. The L-shaped artist studio/office downstairs now gains light from transom-height windows running the width of the house.

Grey fitted cabinetry, a stone-topped dining table, and the quiet hum of a city beyond the glass — this dining room is composed with deliberate calm.
The LINKORI STELLOQ Linear chandelier holds its position across the length of the dining table, its brushed gold copper frame introducing a warm counterpoint to the room’s cool, neutral palette.
Crafted from natural Spanish alabaster, each panel reveals unique veining that diffuses light into a soft, continuous glow — defining the dining zone without disrupting the openness of the surrounding space.
Its rectangular form is equally suited to dining tables and kitchen islands, adapting to layouts where directional, architectural lighting is essential.
Designed for modern dining rooms and open-plan interiors, it functions as both illumination and a refined structural element.

Beginning with the owner’s stated preference for a home with abundant natural light, the name of this project was adapted from that of a famous Beijing garden.

What homeowner does not dream of more space and continuous indoor-outdoor living created by sleek bifold glass doors? Imagine an ADU where the boundaries between indoors and outdoors dissolve seamlessly, creating an expansive, light-filled area perfect for living, working, and entertaining. For one inspired couple in Needham, Massachusetts, this dream became a reality. When Ed Schnurr retired and needed a place to store his vintage cars, he and his wife Jan Moscowitz saw an opportunity to create something unique in their large, underutilized backyard. The couple transformed a once empty lawn into a light-filled multifunctional dwelling complete with a full-scale garage and versatile Generation 4 bifold glass doors by NanaWall. This contemporary home addition, recently featured in The Boston Globe, highlights how adaptable design solutions can transform a small space into something truly extraordinary.

Proposed extension for a single family home in Montreal, two steps away from the Saint Lawrence River. The challenge was to integrate a new living space adapted to the uneven and angular form of the field.
At the rear of the residence, in the court side, the new dining areas adjacent to the kitchen is now part of the landscape. The volume of approximately twelve feet by sixteen feet lets natural light through a large sliding folding door that opens fully outside. The space promotes the movements and communications between the kitchen and the back yard. Privacy is however preserved by the uneven shape of a triangular window that maximizes the lighting towards the sky and thus extends the glazed space on the entire length of the south facade of the building.
The minimalism of the interior decoration invites one’s gaze toward the outside. Everything is designed to provide continuity with the landscape. The color of the grooved wood envelope adds comforting warmth while also accenting the opening on the backyard. The roof tapers and reveals an awning. Thus sheltered, the patio remains simple, in concrete, such a rock lodged there to greet the structure which disappears and blends into the landscape.

Bilotta Senior Designer, Thomas Vecchio, and Patrick J. Hamilton of Patrick James Hamilton Designs, partnered on this Manhattan upper east side kitchen renovation. This nondescript ‘60’s co-op and galley kitchen were reimagined into a pre-war era gem by adding architectural details: paneling, coffers, and moldings. Widening the opening created an open vista. Upper panes of glass on the Bilotta Collection wall cabinets echo the apartment’s transoms and unite the two sections that are interrupted by the paneled structural column. To compensate for the shorter wall, storage is optimized with plentiful pullouts, dividers, and specialized organizers. The “dead end” under the window was eliminated by continuing cabinetry and countertop materials around the room.
Countertop wall cabinets create a hutch in full view of the dining room. With dark gray paint, corner posts and furniture base molding, the peninsula reads like an island and bridges the two areas. Quartz countertops sport “lightning bolt” veins for pattern. Sophisticated on-
trend brushed brass was employed on the cabinet pulls and knobs, faucet, sconces, and pendants. A gamechanger was extending the footprint of the kitchen into the hallway with two tall cabinets. One is allocated for cleaning supplies, bulk items, recycling, and the vacuum. The other conceals a built-in wine rack; glassware and bar items; a docking drawer for charging devices; and a Penda-flex rack for files. An absolutely stunning metamorphosis.

Designed and built by MAADKreatif™ Studio, this home in Northern Colorado is an on-going conversation with the wild, expansive, and awe-inspiring nature just outside its door. Standing at over 6800 feet above sea level on a 40-acre property bordering more than 650,000 acres of forest land and the Rocky Mountain wilderness, Marc Gerritsen, principal architect of MAADKreatif™, had to contend with wind factor exceeding 150 miles per hour, massive snow loads, extreme danger of wild fires, water shortage, dry climate, and intense year round sun exposure in designing the sprawling headquarters.
“Instead of dictating, acquiescing or adapting to Mother Nature, I engage her in a friendly banter”, Marc says with a smile. “We designed and engineered the main building to withstand extreme conditions, but nature had plenty to say in regards to the location, form, orientation, and cladding of the massive structure. “Although we have 40-acres of land to work with, much of it is too steep, exposed, or impenetrable to build on” Marc continues, “the building stands on the only location where we could carve out a large enough area without inflicting too much damage on the land. As it happens, it is also the best location we could hope for. From this location, we have a Southwest orientation that gives the building the optimum amount of sun exposure in the winter, protection from the strong easterly wind, access to water, and a vast, un-interrupted views of the bright city lights, vast plains and the majestic snow-capped mountains”.
The building’s frontage features two sets of 24 feet long panoramic windows to take it all in, and its slightly sloped roofline allows high wind to glide over the building and sends melted snow into a 1800 gallon underground concrete cistern. And, to protect the building from wild fires, the entire structure is cladded in raw steel. Exposure to the sun, wind, rain, and snow has begun to corrode the raw metal and transformed its cold, polished, steely surface into a warm, rusty patina that will continue to darken overtime while the extremely low humidity in the air will stop the rusted steel from withering away.
And so, the friendly banter between man and nature continues.
“Our home embodies the philosophy of Resilient Design + Living,” said Adria Lake, “it is built to last and thrive in any condition, not by force or concessions, but through an on-going conversation and collaboration with nature.”
