The space features dark wood cabinetry with clean, flat-panel doors, sleek metal frames with smoked grey glass. A large waterfall-edge island anchors the room, topped with striking white quartz countertops accented by dramatic gray veining that continues up the backsplash. The island includes integrated seating space and serves as both a functional and visual centerpiece.
Above the island, three minimalist pendant lights hang from a recessed ceiling detail, adding warmth and symmetry. The perimeter cabinetry includes glass-front upper cabinets with interior lighting, creating depth and a refined, showroom-quality feel.
The flooring is a dark-stained hardwood, which contrasts sharply with the light countertops and white walls, reinforcing the modern aesthetic. To the right, a tall cabinet wall seamlessly integrates storage and likely built-in appliances, maintaining a streamlined, uncluttered look. The adjacent hallway continues the modern theme with dark flooring and contemporary lighting.
Overall, the kitchen feels luxurious, clean-lined, and architecturally intentional, blending modern elegance with functional design—ideal for upscale residential or showroom inspiration.

This contemporary staircase serves as a striking focal point in the home's sun-filled entryway. Black mono-beam stringers support thick natural-stained oak treads, creating a bold structural framework. The absence of risers maintains complete openness, allowing natural light from the surrounding private forest to flow freely through the space. Glass panel railings echo the foyer's numerous windows, maintaining visual continuity throughout, while the black metal cap rail reinforces the industrial aesthetic of the stringers. Together, these elements create an anchoring stair system that enhances the contemporary home's connection to light and landscape.

A rhythm is felt from the ceiling beams to the glass upper cabinets, design themes that flow to the dining and great room to maintain a light and airy atmosphere. The cadence continues between zones for entertaining and cooking. The beverage area is connected but does not overpower the function of the kitchen. Undercounter refrigeration, drinkware, glass front cabinetry and the television unite as a hub for hosting. A small sink by the cooktop serves both areas for prep and beverage. Overhead, the rangehood is simple in form with an intention to resemble a European plaster hood. The tile backsplash has a handmade feel for a transitional appearance with old-world comfort.

In the new hall bathroom, we used a marble-look hex tile on the floor; the porcelain is durable and easy to maintain and the Calacatta look provides visual continuity with the ensuite bath. Elongated white subway tile keeps the bathroom feeling light and bright and a deep soaking tub means a relaxing spa-like bath is an option when needed. An open hall cubby space is currently used as the kids’ book nook, but could easily house linens and overflow bath supplies.

The living area seamlessly connected to the kitchen, features a fireplace with an authentic hand-hewn mantle. The Silver Premium Natural Ledger stone adds a rustic charm, white birch logs bring warmth and ambiance while the fireplace hearth wears Lien Blue Leathered Quartzite to maintain cohesion. Throughout the home, luxury vinyl flooring in palisade color unifies the spaces, adding warmth and continuity to the design.

This stunning one-acre garden, within walking distance of downtown Bethesda, was designed and installed by our firm in 2004.. LPI continues to maintain it today. The owners, devoted gardeners, wanted to utilize as much of the existing plant palette as possible but also to have space for a pond, a cutting garden, and expanses of lawn. The biggest challenge proved to be coping with the prodigious amount of water on site due to an underground spring and drainage issues posed by it and the topography of the site.
In 2010 this garden won an Award of Merit from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, , a Grand Award from the MD*DC*VA Landscape Contractors Association, and an Environmental Improvement Award of Distinction from PLANET.
