Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary medium tone wood floor enclosed dining room remodel in Barcelona with white walls and no fireplace

Sunroom windows can be tricky to cover. Most sun rooms have large, expansive windows that let in lots of light and, with all that light, they tend to heat up. Hence, the 'greenhouse' effect. This particular client enjoyed spending lots of time in her sun room....all year round. However, the glare and heat from all the sun made it unbearable at times. The best solution for this particular space was a Hunter Douglas Applause Cellular Shade in a room darkening fabric. The shades provide a clean, tailored look and are energy efficient at the window in both cold and warm climates and, best of all, the client can now enjoy the space!

'Sweet 100' cherry tomatoes growing in a 15-gallon terra-cotta pot. Container-grown tomatoes are more susceptible to blossom end rot, but cherry tomatoes like 'Sweet 100', 'Sungold', and 'Black Cherry' rarely have this problem. Photo by Steve Masley

A casual and contemporary living space under raw maple slats cooled by a sculptural polished aluminum Haiku fan is a great place to hang out. An extra-wide Italia sofa gives everyone space. The extra wide, wall mounted flat screen plays a continuous 24 hour loop of tropical coral reefs or surfing videos. Industrial doors open into a separate media room for the kids.

A spacious great room with a raw maple slat ceiling and custom fireplace, combines textural interest with notes of grays and brown to create a perfect balance of comfort and cohesion.and across from a floating concrete fireplace. The living area is accessible via a pneumatic, cylindrical, glass elevator and also by an open stairwell composed of tropical hardwoods. Italian leather and performance linen set the stage for beauty and durability. The flat screen by the front door showcases continuous loops of surfing and sea life videos.

A large open-plan kitchen is given a clean, modern look with the abundance of white and pale yellows. We used a new green material for the countertops, which is a man-made porcelain slab, which adds a smooth and seamless design to the large space. Complementing the countertops are the sleek white cabinets, white globe pendant lights, and a pale yellow accent wall, which keeps the room light and cheery while adding a touch of color.
We added a pop-up outlet in the countertop, which plugs into a hidden GFCI, allowing for outlets to be readily available and indecipherable on the countertop. An assisted pop-up shelf has also been installed, providing the perfect space for a toaster, coffee machine, and other small machinery that may take up wanted counter space. And lastly, for additional storage, we designed the top row shelves to be open and continuous (not sectioned off), creating space for larger items that the homeowners want to store.

This staircase leading to this home's back door was rebuilt to include under-stair storage. The stair fronts were left open, and the inside of the staircase was framed, allowing a continuation of flooring. The extra floor space in this staircase creates the perfect shoe storage and eliminating the chance of tripping over shoes.
