Converted from an existing Tuff Shed garage, the Beech Haus ADU welcomes short stay guests in the heart of the bustling Williams Corridor neighborhood. Natural light dominates this self-contained unit, with windows on all sides, yet maintains privacy from the primary unit. Double pocket doors between the Living and Bedroom areas offer spatial flexibility to accommodate a variety of guests and preferences. And the open vaulted ceiling makes the space feel airy and interconnected, with a playful nod to its origin as a truss-framed garage. A play on the words Beach House, we approached this space as if it were a cottage on the coast. Mushroomwood originates deep underground in Appalachian coal-country where no-longer-productive coal mines have been converted into mushroom growing facilities. Thousands of board feet of species such as cypress, hemlock and cedar have been used in these facilities to provide growing platforms for the mushrooms. This colorful Contemporary design / build project started as an Addition but included new cork flooring and painting throughout the home. The Kitchen also included the creation of a new pantry closet with wire shelving and the Family Room was converted into a beautiful Library with space for the whole family. The homeowner has a passion for picking paint colors and enjoyed selecting the colors for each room. The home is now a bright mix of modern trends such as the barn doors and chalkboard surfaces contrasted by classic LA touches such as the detail surrounding the Living Room fireplace. The Master Bedroom is now a Master Suite complete with high-ceilings making the room feel larger and airy. Perfect for warm Southern California weather! Speaking of the outdoors, the sliding doors to the green backyard ensure that this white room still feels as colorful as the rest of the home. The Master Bathroom features bamboo cabinetry with his and hers sinks. The light blue walls make the blue and white floor really pop. BEFORE: 1920s Colonial Hunting Lodge to family home: Historical Renovation & Addition. Residential Building Design by Susan P. Berry, CPBD,. Onterior remodel of center 2 story section converting the existing kitchen to a laundry room. The existing side structures were removed. A new barn, lake bath, large kitchen , butler's pantry, computer desk and potting shed were added to the left side. A large master suite and powder bath were added to the right side. A sun room was added across the rear of the home.The center 2 story potion is the existing home. The rooms were too small for contemporary living. A large luxury master suite, including a claw foot tub and 300sf closet was added to the right. Garages, mud room, lake bath, potting shed, home office, pantry space and a very large kitchen with views to the lake were added to the right. A large glass room with a sun deck above was added to the rear. The little window to the left of the front door is the old kitchen, which is now the laundry room, using the existing cabinets, while switching out the stove and fridge for the washer and dryer. The client wanted a front porch to protect them from the Florida rains. The roof of the front porch follows the line of the existing pediment over the door.
