The idea for Scandinavian Hardwoods came after years of countless conversations with homeowners, designers, architects, and builders. The consistent theme: they wanted more than just a beautiful floor. They wanted insight into manufacturing locations (not just the seller or importer) and what materials are used and why. They wanted to understand the product’s environmental impact and it’s effect on indoor air quality and human health. They wanted a compelling story to tell guests about the beautiful floor they’ve chosen. At Scandinavian Hardwoods, we bring all of these elements together while making luxury more accessible.

VILLA D'ORO
Stone Mosaic
Villa d’Oro is a stunning collection of stone mosaic and intarsia patterns inspired by the artistic heritage of the countless cultures that have called the Mediterranean home. In Villa d’Oro, decorative influences from Moorish Spain mingle with Venetian Gothic and Medieval Egyptian, echoing the mélange created by the eons of cultural overlap in the ancient Mediterranean world. Working from historical sources, we stripped each design down to its graphic essence and then rebuilt it in contemporary color ways and scale, keeping in mind how people use patterns today. Each pattern in Villa d’Oro is carefully cut and assembled from stones fittingly sourced in a variety of Mediterranean countries, creating new decorative art to enliven your modern surroundings.
Usage:
Residential: All interior surfaces, including bathroom walls / floors, shower walls / floors and kitchen backsplashes. Exterior walls. Commercial: Interior and exterior walls and medium traffic floors. Some colors subject to scratching in high traffic environments. See Tools | Usage Guide for more details.

A lot more goes in to Living Room design than meets the eye. It can be extremely challenging designing the many elements that must be considered in a true and unique Custom Home– from floor to ceiling not a single nook or cranny can be left un-imagined. Finding that special piece de résistance can be daunting to say the least. But the reward that comes after a room is put together in grand style is unsurpassed by any other. A lot of elements go into this process, and its not a task that should be taken or given lightly. This is why the design team at Houston based Frontier Custom Builders, Inc spend countless hours training, drafting and designing leaving not a single stone upturned.

Wonderful transformation at the beginning of a multi-phase project. Wooded private lake lot cleared of most trees and large amount of soil moved to enhance view to the lake. The creation of a beautiful, pondless, waterfeature begins as you head towards the lake and transistions into a flagstone patio, contained by a mossrock seating wall, and a fire pit area. This postion allows for breathtaking views back towards the house and the water feature, or to several angles to the lake which offer countless possibilities of natural beauty. New stone step treads replaced rotted wooden steps and a flagstone walkway did the same for the dry portion of the dock. Pine straw was used to dress up areas to be planted and to provide a clean and finished look. Fieldstone boulder sea wall added in additional step as well as more turf and irrigation

For those who like cozy and inviting, the Santa Fe room will give you countless family gatherings and many other festivities. The Santa Fe Casual Dining Set features a heavily distressed finish with birch solid and veneers that makes it more cozy and inviting. Natural slate inserts in different colors for beauty and storage seats for functionality. The bench can be configured left or right. The Amarion oversized wall clock has been beautifully antiqued. With an aged bronze finish look, hammered copper sheeting and roman numerals this clock exudes a sophisticated and classic style. It uses old-world details and inspiration to create intricately detailed decor for today's modern home. Gather your family ‘round for dinner, and let the good times begin.

Our most recent modern farmhouse in the west Willamette Valley is what dream homes are made of. Named “Starry Night Ranch” by the homeowners, this 3 level, 4 bedroom custom home boasts of over 9,000 square feet of combined living, garage and outdoor spaces.
Well versed in the custom home building process, the homeowners spent many hours partnering with both Shan Stassens of Winsome Construction and Buck Bailey Design to add in countless unique features, including a cross hatched cable rail system, a second story window that perfectly frames a view of Mt. Hood and an entryway cut-out to keep a specialty piece of furniture tucked out of the way.
From whitewashed shiplap wall coverings to reclaimed wood sliding barn doors to mosaic tile and honed granite, this farmhouse-inspired space achieves a timeless appeal with both classic comfort and modern flair.

LAB
A FRAME WITH A TECHNOLOGICAL CORE.
Prominent and refined model with clean lines and large volumes expressing the lightness of the glass fronts and the strength of the aluminum frame supporting them. Design for better ergonomics, concentrating the washing and cooking areas in the central island to make kitchen chores easier. The simplicity of solids, emphasized by tall units doors and island bases with groove, does not contrast with the various translucent materials that introduce countless and rigorous reflections. A real laboratory where different materials and finishes are mixed with extreme knowledge: the right columns are model Lab matt glass Nero traffico finish, the left columns are model Bluna wood bilaminate Noce miele finish, while the island is model Bluna tech Alluminio brunito finish with the new Emme groove which gives a characteristic lightness to the 12 mm thick gres worktop Nero greco finish.

Talk about bringing a kitchen up to date! Little details like the bin pulls and farmhouse sink give a nod to the distant past, but the general tone for this Hood River kitchen is "today." The white on white palette leaves the homeowner free to accessorize at will, but is grounded by the wood accents and beadboard texture of the cabinetry. The dining nook with beautiful distressed table brings people into the kitchen to enjoy time together and gives the area a homey feeling. Medallion Cabinetry will stand up to many years of use and preserve the look of this lovely kitchen for countless meals and gatherings. As always, the design was carefully curated by Allen's Fine Woodworking to ensure the space allows the homeowner to work smarter, not harder.

Coming full-circle and tying it all together…this self-service car wash on James Island was one of my first landscape design projects and my very first commercial landscape design project. If you spent much time on J.I. or Folly between 2015-2017, you probably passed it countless times. A couple of years before the pandemic, a lot of the landscaping was removed to make room for the expansion of the intersection of Folly and Camp…I’m very fortunate that Google didn’t delete this shot, lest my first commercial design be lost forever.
The job was simple in nature, yet conceptually difficult: I had to make one of the island’s ugliest commercial properties look more like the pristine Lowcountry maritime forest depicted in the first photo. This is what I came up with…note that I was able to hide a lot of the gas station in the background, too. (As with the pool area in Mt. Pleasant, the yaupon holly was my idea, but manicuring it wasn’t.)
