Our clients came to us with a desire to expand what was a fairly small kitchen in a large 1977 home. Many of the main living spaces were unused, so the existing kitchen and former dining room were combined into a new, large kitchen that includes 2 large walnut topped islands, a bar area, and an organizational area for mail and crafts. What was created was a room that allows the family to cook, entertain and play all in one area. The amount of storage space in this kitchen was fully maximized through custom pantry cabinets, pull out accessories and more. The perimeter cabinets were topped off with beautiful, classic Cambria quartz counters that resemble marble – a finish that fits perfectly into this traditionally styled home. The traditional style was played up through unique cement tiles, subway tiles, wired glass cabinet door inserts, a farm style sink, and oil rubbed bronze finishes. The appliances were a definite upgrade as well, reusing the single oven in the island and adding a large 36” range. In the end, this show-stopping kitchen is now a family friendly oasis for everyone from the cooks to the kids.

This South Minneapolis 1922 Bungalow,was ready for an update bath. Staying true the original charm of the home, the homeowners were looking for elements with character. Handcrafted tiles from a past Mpls art fair designed by a local artist directed the design of the space. With such a small bath, a small wall hung sink was selected to create the image of more space and to show off the flooring. A new tub and Kohler plumbing fixtures were installed in oil rubbed bronze finish. Marble tile flooring was selected in a floweret pattern and was framed with a coordinating marble border. Ceramic mint green tiles designed to resemble handmade tiles were installed on the walls and shower and trimmed with an oil rubbed bronze finished end. Overall, the new bathroom blends in nicely with the Arts & Crafts home and decor and will be enjoyed by the family for many years to come. Photography: Lisa Brunnel

This stunning wide wooden door was handmade in a family Cooperative in a southern Moroccan town near Zagora, Morocco. Hand carved from the fragrant wood of the Tamarisk tree harvested 100-200 years ago, this expertly crafted door has been refurbished in the traditional ornate Moroccan style. A beautifully designed olive tree fills the entire door, made of handplaced individual pieces of repurposed camel bone. The olive tree is representative of the family tree. At the bottom of the tree on each side are two camels, also created from pieces of camel bone. Dark metal rivets on the door are carefully placed, providing the door with great strength and giving protection from evil forces, according to Moroccan legend. Tamarisk wood, also known as salt cedar, is naturally pest repellent and ages beautifully. The variances in grain and staining create a beautiful contrast and add a rich warmth. This item was completely handmade in a Tuareg cooperative in Amazraou, Morocco, using techniques passed down through many generations. This particular door is collaboration between a father, the silversmith; and his son, the carpenter. These are truly the finest doors you will find in all of Morocco, suitable for indoors and outdoors, or even for use as a gate door. Absolutely stunning craftsmanship and one of a kind.
