This condo made us feel like we were on vacation, so we created a gorgeous nautical feel. Classic blue and white stripes make this room the perfect spot to crash. Would you believe this guest bedroom in in the basement?!

Backside of the pool. This is what the boaters see when they pass by. This pool was designed not only for the view from the house, but also from the water. Illuminated stairs on both sides lead you down from the pool area to a lower seating area. Where you can relax with the sounds of the crashing waves, look out over the lake, watch the kids play. High on the cliffs overlooking the sea, this residence exudes a sense of place—seemingly originating from the ledge that supports it. Jutting forms and crashing volumes are reminiscent of the relationship between the land and the sea. An irregular footprint radiates from the entry tower. Strictly following the client's wish for minimal use of structure and maxi­mum use of glass, the walls rise up on ball bearings and effortlessly roll away. The second and third stories of the tower feature the master bath suite. With a glass-enclosed shower on an outside wall, the openness continues. An 1878 Victorian with an eclectic history and beautiful bones is transformed into a series of light filled, expansive spaces. Care was taken to retain the traditional Victorian detailing while adding a modern casework and furnishings to update the space. The house had been through many incarnations – including housing for naval officers, home to a dental school, crash pad for rock stars – all of which left their mark on the architecture. Before any design decisions could be made, the house was stripped to its bones, which revealed capacious and thoughtfully designed spaces. The design intent was to honor the original architecture and traditional detailing – decorative door knobs, intricate moldings – and blend Victorian with modern.
