In the top floor of the Hopkinson House lived a neglected, dingy corner apartment facing Washington Square. The new owner purchased the unit and undertook a complete gut renovation of the space. With parallels to her own life, the owner craved a new, fresh, light filled, colorful space to call her own. The design centers around a retractable suede wall panel system which when open, draws in the western sun, creating a spacious living area. When closed, it allows for a guest bedroom complete with Murphy bed. Fine finishes accent the space throughout and wood shelving provide displays for an extensive teapot collection.

Wallcovering can create a background to give your sleep space a peaceful feel. Knitted fabrics on the bed and textures in the curtains bring a small dose of pretty pattern into the space. To be really relaxed in your bedroom, you need soft surfaces to sit, walk and sleep on. Layering the space with sumptuous textures that are arranged neatly and a simple colour palette will keep the room feeling calm and harmonious. The wallpaper print is called Heavenly Drapes and it does create a backdrop that is restful, yet inspirational. The curtain fabric adds texture, while the colour blends into the wall. The wardrobe sliding doors are back painted glass. The colour is the same as the walls, but the glass adds depth and a different level of gloss.

This project had both visual and practical components. The family was not only interested in updating the look of their kitchen, but also in creating a more efficient cabinet solution. Over the course of a month we installed several cabinets from the Showplace Wood product line, replacing the family’s existing oak, builder grade cabinets. The clients opted for the Covington W door style with a full overlay composed of cherry wood in autumn stain. This combination gave the kitchen a warm and welcoming feel, while still maintaining the modern aesthetic the family craved. Next, we replaced the family’s outdated Corian counters with beautiful Cambria countertops. They chose contrasting colors, placing Brownhill on the room’s perimeter spaces and Cambrian Black on the kitchen island. All of the countertops were finished with a three centimeter FS edge. In the end we walked away from the home very proud of the transformation that we had completed. We were even more proud to learn that the happy homeowners shared our pride and excitement over their beautiful new space!

This home remodel is a celebration of curves and light. Starting from humble beginnings as a basic builder ranch style house, the design challenge was maximizing natural light throughout and providing the unique contemporary style the client’s craved. The Entry offers a spectacular first impression and sets the tone with a large skylight and an illuminated curved wall covered in a wavy pattern Porcelanosa tile. The chic entertaining kitchen was designed to celebrate a public lifestyle and plenty of entertaining. Celebrating height with a robust amount of interior architectural details, this dynamic kitchen still gives one that cozy feeling of home sweet home. The large “L” shaped island accommodates 7 for seating. Large pendants over the kitchen table and sink provide additional task lighting and whimsy. The Dekton “puzzle” countertop connection was designed to aid the transition between the two color countertops and is one of the homeowner’s favorite details. The built-in bistro table provides additional seating and flows easily into the Living Room. A curved wall in the Living Room showcases a contemporary linear fireplace and tv which is tucked away in a niche. Placing the fireplace and furniture arrangement at an angle allowed for more natural walkway areas that communicated with the exterior doors and the kitchen working areas. The dining room’s open plan is perfect for small groups and expands easily for larger events. Raising the ceiling created visual interest and bringing the pop of teal from the Kitchen cabinets ties the space together. A built-in buffet provides ample storage and display. The Sitting Room (also called the Piano room for its previous life as such) is adjacent to the Kitchen and allows for easy conversation between chef and guests. It captures the homeowner’s chic sense of style and joie de vivre.
