Careful design details for drainage within stone expanses and at pool and spa remodel protect the contemporary layout and eliminate the use of plastics and short-lived solutions.

Golden Roots LandscapeThis project involved the complete remake of an aging Eichler and transforming the surrounding landscape into an inviting outdoor living space. Even the driveway was given a modern update with permeable concrete pavers filled with crushed granite. The front lawn and brick retaining wall were replaced with drought tolerant grasses, perennials, succulents and concrete stepping stones. The expansive back yard includes an all weather dining area, a pergola covered grill island and bar, concrete seat wall and water feature, lounge seating complete with fire pit, raised vegetable beds and a private spa. Our studio composed a landscape with an improved entry sequence, balancing the need for personal privacy alongside a distinctive public face. A steel framed gabion basket wall provides a crisp edge and doubles as retaining for the private patio behind the horizontal board fence. The courtyard oasis with a new deck is enclosed by warm wooden fencing set on top of the contrasting raw texture of a gabion retaining wall that acts as a backdrop to bold streetscape plantings.
