This photo by Peter Lik is called "Tree of Life". It was the inspiration for the design of the fireplace. The double sided ribbon fireplace was a great way to combine the two units together to make them feel like one space. This fireplace is 20' tall. The hearth is made from concrete and appears to be floating. We cantilevered between the two units to support the weight of the concrete. Both fireplaces have the same hearth. This custom home is derived from Chinese symbolism. The color red symbolizes luck, happiness and joy in the Chinese culture. The number 8 is the most prosperous number in Chinese culture. A custom 8 branch tree is showcased on an island in the pool and a red wall serves as the background for this piece of art. The home was designed in a L-shape to take advantage of the lake view from all areas of the home. The open floor plan features indoor/outdoor living with a generous lanai, three balconies and sliding glass walls that transform the home into a single indoor/outdoor space. After meeting with our owner, Mike, to further discuss the project, the client visited our brick vendor and ended up selecting the charcoal colored stacked stone she and Mike talked about. What a great choice! After a few delivery reschedules due to all the rain we had, our guys were finally able to install the stone around the client’s new electric fireplace insert and all the way up to the ceiling. They also made sure to leave space around the wiring so the TV could be remounted once the stone was set.

Returning home after more than a decade living and working in Taiwan, our client envisioned something entirely different from the French Colonial aesthetic of his early-1990s Beaverton home. Through a comprehensive design-build renovation, this Portland metro whole-house remodel transformed a conventional suburban residence into a richly layered retreat inspired by global travel, natural materials, and timeless craftsmanship. This modern fireplace design was created using Quartzite Ledgestone. This stone is paneled and contains a slight shimmer when light is directly on it. The stone contains a mixture of muted natural tones while the look of stacked stone provides the allusion of a larger wall.
