In addition to a modern aesthetic, the homeowners are hoping to stay in the home as they age, so careful consideration was given to making sure that their new home would function for them in the future by including wider doorways, curbless showers, hard surface flooring and single-floor living.
This mid-century modern designed home includes a high covered entry, high ceilings, floor-to- ceiling windows and an open floorplan. Overall, this medium-sized home feels spacious yet bright and inviting. Slab on grade platform construction includes highly efficient in-floor hydronic heat that keeps everything consistently warm in the winter.
Throughout the interior of the home, the use of clean lines reflects the modern aesthetic desired by the homeowner. The kitchen features flat-panel doors and a large island with a dramatic quartz countertop. Sosna IncOur returning clients, middle-aged professionals, reached out to us to remodel their bathrooms as they transition from raising children to focusing on their own comfort and living space. They asked us to modernize their ensuite and shared bathroom, both of which had become outdated and impractical for their current needs.
In the ensuite bathroom, we removed a partition wall to redesign and expand the shower and toilet areas, creating a spacious open-concept layout. We added custom cabinetry with pull-out pantries, finished in a bright paint, and a large linear perimeter for ample storage and countertop space. The countertops and backsplash feature dusk veining, paired with brushed nickel sinks, faucets, and cabinet hardware, giving the space a contemporary yet timeless update. A new curbless glass enclosure adds a striking focal point, while the removal of an underused angled jetted tub creates space for an elegant freestanding tub.
In the shared bathroom, we replaced the tub with a modern curbed shower and enhanced the aesthetic with large, colorful porcelain floor tiles that tie together the artistic essence of the home.
The result is a significantly more functional and visually appealing space that reflects our clients' unique style and needs.

Savvy Giving by DesignBaylen is 9 years old and was diagnosed at age 6 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) in October 2020, in the middle of the pandemic. DMD is a rare disease caused by a genetic mutation that prevents the body from producing a protein called Dystrophin, to which there is currently no cure. In lieu of Dystrophin, his muscles are slowly being encompassed with scar tissue. Without Dystrophin the scar tissue will eventually take over his muscles until they cannot perform adequately for his body.
Since his diagnosis, he has taken to lego building and gaming, which are activities he can participate in without causing any damage to his muscles. Unfortunately the game room in his house is located upstairs while his room is located downstairs making it difficult for him to participate in these activities without assistance or pain from walking up the stairs.
One of the biggest issues is at night, when his legs are in pain, he ends up in his parents room which prevents anyone from getting a restful night's sleep. A room where he feels comfortable and safe would greatly help both him and his parents. It would also be beneficial for his room to have more space for lego building and play video games without having to walk up the stairs.
Phoenix Home RemodelingLaura & Jim wanted to take their builder-grade bathroom to the next level by creating a modern yet sophisticated space. Their oversized garden tub was not working for them any longer and the large, fabricated shower walls were discolored and showing their age.
By determining that Laura wanted to relax at the end of the day, she wanted a smaller, but luxurious bathtub. Because the main flooring was still in great shape, this caused a little issue due to not having extra to lay under the newly opened tub area.
To elevate the look, we used the flat pebble Warm Blend rock to create a dedicated relaxation station. Due to the post – tension slab we needed to raise the freestanding tub filler a few inches, by raising this the water effortlessly cascades into the tub.
A fresh coat of paint for Sherwin Williams; Drift of Mist creates a moment of true relaxation.
The shower walls were updated to a modern stone 12X24 tile. The Anthology White appears bright and light but encapsulates you during your showering experience. We removed the dated glass block window on the inner wall of the shower to modernize the look. The natural basketweave of cream, grey and ivory compliment the shower floor, walls, and plumbing fixtures. That niche will hold a lot of hair product. We know, we’ve tried.
The vanity areas also were upgraded, the cast integrated sinks & countertops had to go. New quartz countertops, undermounted sinks and the Delta Lahara widespread faucets bring that area current. The upgraded lighting and modern mirrors bounce light all around the room allowing every new area to shine brighter.
mackmiller design+buildThe clients’ 1995 primary bathroom wasn’t functional or safe. They wanted it accessible so they could age-in-place. However, to keep costs down, they wanted to stay within the current footprint and keep the same general layout. Key changes to the project included replacing a double window with a single window. This allowed for the larger double bowl vanity and a double built-in linen cabinet. A 32” wide door was installed and the tub was replaced with a barrier-free, curbless, shower. A white painted Shaker style flat panel double vanity with rarely seen Lemurian Blue granite and two white undermount sinks were added. The granite is quarried in Madagascar and rich in iridescent, labradorite deposits is the room’s focal point. A curbless shower with a hinged glass door was installed. The colors of the shower deco strip reflect the vanity top color palette. Large format marble look white and taupe porcelain shower wall and floor tile with hints of blue were installed in the shower and bathroom floor. Taupe 2 x 2 tiles were laid on the shower floor. A granite shaving bench and two corner shelves for products were added. Delta Lahara polished chrome shower head and hand shower system, vanity faucets and a robe hook were installed. Polished chrome is repeated in the Schlage Accent privacy lever door handles and Top Knobs cabinet hardware. A large custom beveled vanity framed mirror and two polished chrome three-light vanity fixtures with white glass globes were also installed.
Design Connection, Inc.Arlene Ladegaard of Design Connection, Inc. had the walls and ceilings painted a neutral color, giving this space a brighter, larger feel. The before picture reflects mauve walls and furnishings from the mid 80’s. The new sofa, chairs, tables, lamps and accessories are current and blend with the remaining furnishings from long ago. The sofa is rich linen velvet that works well with the brown and linen geometric print chair. Our clients are enjoying the latest in fabric trends and they love our mixture of linen and velvet fabrics. The new gold tones combined with the aged bronze metal pictures above the older chest are a notable blend of new and old.
At the request of our clients, we renewed the classic nature of these spaces by connecting new furniture and accessories with pieces from thirty years ago. This living room proves that if you invest in nice furnishings that are classic in style, they will stand the test of time.

This second floor bathroom was narrow, dark and dated, so we rearranged the space, installed all new finishes and made sure the plumbing and electrical was met current code. The result is a beautiful 3/4 bath that integrates well with the home's age.

Homes And Such LLCThe master bedroom is a cozy space, capturing the character of the previous roofline with a rustic beam detail. A built in dog bed takes advantage of unused attic space and a new niche became the perfect spot to house the current reading list. Because of the age of the home, the design was about embracing the cottage feel of the home. This was done with modern windows that let in abundant natural light for their size and location. Supply chain issues significantly delayed the project when the windows took far longer than expected or planned, but they were absolutely worth the wait. They fit the aesthetic of the home, maximize natural light, and complement the eclectic vibe within the master suite.
The space was further personalized with bold wallpaper that features an antique vibe. The chandelier was curated for the space to add interest and uniqueness to the room. Instead of a door, the opening to the closet gives a spatial feel to the suite and maximizes function and flow.
