The homeowners, residing in a 1990s home, sought to update their primary bathroom to create a fresh, open space that still felt warm and cozy. The existing layout presented several challenges, including an undesirable first view of the toilet as you entered the room. They also wanted to reconfigure the tub and enlarge the shower for a more functional and luxurious experience. Additionally, the current vanity placement caused problems, as the door would frequently collide with someone using the sink. We rotated the tub 90 degrees to allow for more openness and room for the new toilet location. We changed the built in standard size tub to a deep freestanding tub with waterfall filler. The vanity was moved away from the entrance, helping with the flow in and out of the room. We also built a dedicated space for seating, along with convenient niches for shampoo and soap.

This opportunity was realized when the current owners of this home first purchased it and wanted to personalize it when they moved in. The alcove area under the stairway was there and it’s original intended use is unknown, but the owners wanted a wet bar area to serve the lakeside and back deck areas of the home. A sink, ice maker and mini-fridge were added into the space along with plenty of storage for glasses, tumblers, and an exposed wine rack. The unit was built inexpensively by using regular plywood for the boxes and spending the time and resources on the solid oak doors. Polycarbonate sheeting was used to give the cabinets and opaque view of what is inside as well as the backlighting to enhance to room’s mood without having to use overhead lighting.

This client sent me her measurements and I created a space plan for her to get the most space out of her room. She likes blue and white and LOVES gray. So I worked with her current paint color to create a mood board to compliment her love of blue. We are adding a pop of color with the pillows.
