David Duncan Livingston For this ground up project in one of Lafayette’s most prized neighborhoods, we brought an East Coast sensibility to this West Coast residence. Honoring the client’s love of classical interiors, we layered the traditional architecture with a crisp contrast of saturated colors, clean moldings and refined white marble. In the living room, tailored furnishings are punctuated by modern accents, bespoke draperies and jewelry like sconces. Built-in custom cabinetry, lasting finishes and indoor/outdoor fabrics were used throughout to create a fresh, elegant yet livable home for this active family of five.

This gorgeous bathroom design with a free-standing tub and marble galore is made even more beautiful with a custom-made white oak vanity. The brass mirror and light fixtures complement the polished nickel tub filler. The walls are classic grey by Benjamin Moore, complete with marble countertops.

The kitchen and sunroom were closed off by walls that hindered the flow of traffic and natural light. The new layout is open, airy and features folding LaCantina doors that allow for seamless access to the patio during warmer months. Radiant heating warms the spaces during cooler months. The large kitchen island matches the impressiveness of the rest of the home, especially as your eye catches the cascading marble of the waterfall edge that extends the countertop down to the floor. Major gut renovation of this coastal estate preserved its basic layout while expanding the kitchen. Jonathan Salmon, the designer, raised the wall between the laundry room and kitchen, creating an open floor plan with ample space on three walls for cabinets and appliances. He widened the entry to the dining room to improve sightlines and flow. The fittings finishes and fixtures are in tune with the homes 1907. architecture, including soapstone counter tops and custom painted schoolhouse lighting.
