Cummings Architecture + InteriorsThe Abraham Knowlton House (c. 1725) was nearly demolished to make room for the expansion of a nearby commercial building. Thankfully, this historic home was saved from that fate after surviving a long, drawn out battle. When we began the project, the building was in a lamentable state of disrepair due to long-term neglect. Before we could begin on the restoration and renovation of the house proper, we needed to raise the entire structure in order to repair and fortify the foundation. The design project was substantial, involving the transformation of this historic house into beautiful and yet highly functional condominiums. The final design brought this home back to its original, stately appearance while giving it a new lease on life as a home for multiple families.

UserWhat was once an unfinished basement is now a perfect getaway and space to entertain. The main focus is the projection screen and cozy couches for the family to gather and watch movies in surround sound. Just a few feet away, a kitchenette provides some refreshments and food. This space also allows plenty of room to throw a party and this kitchenette can store lots of food and drink.
Down the hall we have a rec room with a ping pong table. Across from that is a gym so the homeowners can continue to live a healthy lifestyle.
On the other side of the basement there is a playroom that can easily double as a guest room. It's a great spot for the kids to play and keep their toys all in one place. Next door is a "jack and jill" bathroom that is appropriate for all ages. Walk in the door and you'll be wowed by the mosaic tile accent that greets you from inside the shower.
We're happy to hear the family is enjoying the space and have enjoyed a few parties!
Curated NestEclectic / modern style room for a dinosaur-obsessed 5 year old Brooklyn boy. Maximized the compact space by using built-in storage as a multifunctional, cozy reading nook with custom high-performance upholstery (i.e., kid-friendly). Used tones of blue in wallpaper, walls, and furniture to ground the space and keep it mature as he grows up - but with vibrant, fun pops of red for now.
