This young family was ready for a new, fresh and updated look to their house. They wanted a totally different color scheme and vibe and needed it finished within 6 weeks to be ready for a party of 100+ people they were hosting. I was happy to help! Even though many items that were selected were on back order and needed to be replaced, they kept their spirits high after countless returns and exchanges. Although art was being framed a day before the party and decor was being installed at the last minute, we pulled it together and accomplished our goal of finishing on time!
The easiest (and most cost effective!) way to change the feeling of a space is with color, so that’s what I did. I swapped out the tired burgundy/browns for a clean palette of blues and greys. In the family room, a new custom sectional in a neutral grey took place of the brown leatherette sofa. A blue accent chair was placed in the room to brighten that corner. Patterned drapes were hung for privacy and added texture. Colorful artwork and a Moroccan print area rug livened up the space. Many of the accessories and decor throughout the home were sourced at Home Goods, Target and Ikea.
The only piece of furniture that was kept in the entire home was the dining table, chairs and bar stools. The head chairs were swapped out for swanky upholstered navy ones with a nail head trim. A custom cornice to match the chairs was installed in the kitchen to hide the existing roller shades. The bar stools were reupholstered in the same fabric and some throw pillows for the sofa were made in the navy velvet as well. A Z Gallerie chandelier and blue pendants were installed for a little added drama. The fireplace got a makeover with a fresh coat of white paint and tile mosaic.
Their daughter wanted a beach theme bedroom, so that’s what she got! New blue walls, drapes and accessories brought the ocean to this room. Their son has taken a liking to super heroes and Legos. A red, blue and yellow color palette with bold stripes helped to create a fun, playful space for him to enjoy his Legos and super heroes. The master bedroom got a new look with updated furnishings and colorful, yet soothing, bedding. New drapes, an area rug and accessories help pull together this peaceful sanctuary. The bathroom got a makeover with a new vanity, tile mosaic back splash, new lighting and tile on the floor and shower.

Designed for a client who wanted a light, bright airy feeling in their kitchen, we chose painted cabinets arranged in an open floor plan around a dark-stained cooking island. To meet the kitchen's varied demands throughout the day, we incorporated multiple types of lighting: dramatic niche lights to highlight the client's art and to give ambiance; targeted task lighting under cabinets and over the stove; and ample recessed ceiling lights for bright, overall coverage. The art niches and under-cabinet lights are on a Lutron Pico wall-mounted remote dimmer, allowing you to change the room's mood with the click of a button. The stainless steel Heartland 6-burner gas stove and free-standing chimney hood create a striking focal point, while the other custom-paneled appliances integrate seamlessly into the surrounding cabinets. Directly behind the stove is the hand-carved travertine farm sink, and a deep garden window that offers more display space for the clients artwork. The backsplash is a mosaic of roughhewn travertine stones with carved travertine switch plate covers, complimenting the St. Cecilia granite countertops throughout the kitchen.

Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional family room remodel in San Francisco with gray walls, no fireplace and no tv
Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional family room remodel in San Francisco with gray walls, no fireplace and no tv

At the heart of this traditional kitchen design in Santa Ana, North Tustin is a large kitchen island with a curved countertop and barstool seating on one side, a double stainless undermount sink and ample work space on the other side. What makes this kitchen remodel truly unique is the use of light to create a bright, airy open plan kitchen design. Pendant lights over the island and recessed lights work together with two large skylights in the center of the room to bring a combination of man made and natural light into this space.
The dark wood finish island cabinetry contrast beautifully with the white raised panel perimeter kitchen cabinets and paneled refrigerator. A custom-built range hood is framed in matching white cabinetry to complete the look, along with a textured tile backsplash feature that draws the eye to the cooking area. Beneath the backsplash and hood sits a Thermador range that offers space and functionality to create all your favorite meals.
A secondary sink sits next to the range, tucked into a beverage area that also holds the coffee maker. Behind the kitchen island is more cabinet storage and work space, along with an undercounter Sharp microwave drawer. Upper glass front cabinets are ideal for storage and display of special dishes and glassware, and undercabinet lights offer targeted task lighting and highlight the backsplash.
The result is a warm, traditional design that is flooded with natural light and packed with amazing features. It’s an ideal space with a design that enhances day-to-day living and is perfect for entertaining.
