A complete front yard makeover that started with some old massive trees and a sloped front yard in dead grass. We designed and built an absolutely beautiful new front yard that serves our clients in their green thumb endeavours!! Utilizing Kodah wall block we built stepped raised planters as retaining to create tiers and poured an exposed aggregate wide front entrance sidewalk with entrance pillars and coach lighting. We also left one large spruce and "spruced it up" with some fieldstone to cover the roots. Talk about curb appeal!!

Inspiration for an eclectic landscaping in Portland.

The owners of this shared Brooklyn rooftop garden needed to create three individual spaces without feeling too closed off, dark, or boxed in. The solution is a series of custom cedar trellises at varying heights mixed with lightweight planters that delineate each of the owner's deeded spaces. Flowering vines grow through the trellises to provide added privacy during the warmer months as well as pops of color and texture. River birch trees offer dappled shade and dimension, flowering perennials add color, fragrance, and attract pollinators, and ornamental grasses provide texture and movement while also masking some ugly HVAC units. The resulting rooftop space is open and breezy while also giving each family their own special private oasis.

An old fallen tree presented an opportunity to renovate this tired space. Placing the orange and blue containers in the garden allows for year-round color and visual interest, even in the dead of winter. The front door was painted blue and the side panels painted green to echo the blue of the pots and the green of the garden. Such a fun, unique space.

This was a dried out weed strewn desert of a corner lot - including front, side and back gardens, with enormous parkways as well. The entire landscape hadn’t been touched in many years. We removed all the dead grass and weeds, created swales and berms, a big rain garden, paths and seating areas all with permeable paving. Also added fruit trees and veggie beds, and transformed the space completely. Now, the garden is full of birds, butterflies and pollinators! And the clients got a sizable rebate through the LADWP landscape rebate program!

This is a single family home with an attached in-law apartment, 2-car garage and secluded pool. Off Griffin Road on a dead-end cul-de-sac this home sits on 4/10ths of an acre, backing up to an unoccupied Palm-Tree Nursery. The home features three bedrooms and two baths, PLUS a convertible 1-bedroom in-law apartment with another bath, separate kitchen, separate entrance and French Doors overlooking the pool.

The brick was power washed, trees were removed, rotted wood replaced and the exterior was repainted. This was a cramped space that was opened up as soon as all the dead branches were removed.

Landscape Lighting Beams off these Evergreens from the Street. Its a Beautiful Setting Summer, Winter and Fall both Day and Night. Spring is Gorgeous too when the Evergreens push new fuzzy growth of the needles. The Lighting is definitely a challenge because the fixtures need to be set back farther away from the Trees than sometimes permits. Here the ideal distance away for optimal placement is dead smack in the middle of the driveway bringing about some onsite placement and finish pointing to create a contrasting and complementing scene. Cross Lighting is suited best otherwise the shape of the evergreens will seem physically disfigured at night. Some combination of all the lighting strategies will yield the most optimal scene to look at creating great interest against all the Planters up against the towering home.
