This traditional Spanish style home in Willow Glen was updated and transformed into a blend of Spanish and Japandi style, to honor both the architectural style of the home, as well as the owners' personal and cultural aesthetic. This was designed in collaboration with architect Story Build Design.

The custom designed and built bench protects the aesthetic calm of the front garden patio. It provides an excellent view of the neighborhood as well as the hummingbirds drawn by pink Alumroot bells, the sweet fragrance and magic wand-like blooms of Hummingbird Sage blooms, as well as the water feature.

Succulents, grasses and low-water shrubs with vivid foliage give this coastal garden a rich, textured look with minimal maintenance.

This plain rectangular-shaped back yard with a tired lawn in Fairfax, CA was transformed by including curvaceous pathway, patios and garden beds. The plant palette includes a variety of colorful drought-tolerant plants that offer both flower and leaf colors and textures throughout every season.

Hedges of Catalina Cherry, a shrub that thrives in Pasadena's hot, dry summers lines the left side of this patio. Its (edible!) cherries draw birds in autumn, while its blooms do the same in spring. It makes a great exchange for an all too ubiquitous ficus hedge.

Small spaces can provide big challenges. These homeowners wanted to include a lot in their tiny backyard! There were also numerous city restrictions to comply with, and elevations to contend with. The design includes several seating areas, a fire feature that can be seen from the home's front entry, a water wall, and retractable screens.
This was a "design only" project. Installation was coordinated by the homeowner and completed by others.

A large, striking urn was placed as the focal point in the front with the walkway circumventing it in a semi-formal geometric arrangement. Stepstone pavers were set in decomposed granite in a loose and random pattern for the pathway.
