This was a really fun kitchen remodel we did in Fort Collins, CO. We brought in more natural light by exposing the beam and decreasing the divider wall to the living room. All new cabinetry, appliances, and a huge island with seating on two sides. The farmhouse sink was moved to the island, and we tiled the backsplash to the ceiling to make the space feel larger. We framed the counter-depth fridge in pantry storage cabinets and wrapped it in a custom shaker crown. Finally, we finished the flooring with a beautiful Acacia hardwood, and replaced the outdated patio slider with french doors.

Transformation of space and lowering energy consumption. ​ Ecologically sustainable design is integral in our design approach and forms our unique architectural and aesthetic design. Decrease reliance upon heating and cooling. The original house had small, narrow windows and tiny rooms confining the use of space. By changing the layout of the rooms and creating more space for a comfortable open space living, the house is now characterised by its openness and transparency. The use ecological materials, such as clay plaster, wall heating, solar panels and a biomass boiler for heating, plus cooling by ventilation turns this house into a self sufficient, low energy house.

After photo of master bathroom. Walls were removed, relocated, and the space was redesigned to allow for a larger vanity, more storage, and a larger walk-in shower with a bench seat. A larger window was added to the space and the toilet was relocated so it was centered under the window. The space was only increased 12" in depth and was actually decreased by 4" in width as to allow for the framing in of the recessed medicine cabinet above the vanity. Before the space only had a 42" vanity, a 3' shower and no additional storage. Now it has a 63" vanity, 5' walk-in shower with bench seating, a 18" full height linen cabinet, and a 48" built in medicine cabinet. There was space for a swinging door, but the homeowner opted for a pocket door.

This project employs the use of rainwater infiltration by diverting existing downspouts into a dry creek. Instead of being diverted into the storm drain system and wasted, the water is recharged back into the ground. Soils are able to hold the moisture and plant watering needs decrease. In addition to being functional, rock features such as dry creeks contribute to the aesthetic and create a beautiful contrast to the plant material.
