Beyond the beautiful exterior, there is so much well-thought-out storage and function behind each and every cabinet door. The two beautiful blue countertop towers that frame the modern wood hood and cooktop are two intricately designed larder cabinets built to meet the homeowner’s exact needs.
The larder cabinet on the left is designed as a beverage center with apothecary drawers designed for housing beverage stir sticks, sugar packets, creamers, and other misc. coffee and home bar supplies. A wine glass rack and shelves provides optimal storage for a full collection of glassware while a power supply in the back helps power coffee & espresso (machines, blenders, grinders and other small appliances that could be used for daily beverage creations. The roll-out shelf makes it easier to fill clean and operate each appliance while also making it easy to put away. Pocket doors tuck out of the way and into the cabinet so you can easily leave open for your household or guests to access, but easily shut the cabinet doors and conceal when you’re ready to tidy up.
Beneath the beverage center larder is a drawer designed with 2 layers of multi-tasking storage for utensils and additional beverage supplies storage with space for tea packets, and a full drawer of K-Cup storage. The cabinet below uses powered roll-out shelves to create the perfect breakfast center with power for a toaster and divided storage to organize all the daily fixings and pantry items the household needs for their morning routine.
On the right, the second larder is the ultimate hub and center for the homeowner’s baking tasks. A wide roll-out shelf helps store heavy small appliances like a KitchenAid Mixer while making them easy to use, clean, and put away. Shelves and a set of apothecary drawers help house an assortment of baking tools, ingredients, mixing bowls and cookbooks. Beneath the counter a drawer and a set of roll-out shelves in various heights provides more easy access storage for pantry items, misc. baking accessories, rolling pins, mixing bowls, and more.
The kitchen island provides a large worktop, seating for 3-4 guests, and even more storage! The back of the island includes an appliance lift cabinet used for a sewing machine for the homeowner’s beloved hobby, a deep drawer built for organizing a full collection of dishware, a waste recycling bin, and more!
All and all this kitchen is as functional as it is beautiful!

Klopf ArchitectureHow do you expand an L shaped Eichler with the challenge of extending a long dark entry? Klopf Architecture's solution, to design a light filled atrium in the hallway to open up the bedroom expansion with green plants, sky lights and a glass wall. Not to mention the thoughtfulness of a blind door with wood siding similar to the rest of the home.

Albert, Righter & Tittmann Architects, Inc.Harbor View is a modern-day interpretation of the shingled vacation houses of its seaside community. The gambrel roof, horizontal, ground-hugging emphasis, and feeling of simplicity, are all part of the character of the place.
While fitting in with local traditions, Harbor View is meant for modern living. The kitchen is a central gathering spot, open to the main combined living/dining room and to the waterside porch. One easily moves between indoors and outdoors.
The house is designed for an active family, a couple with three grown children and a growing number of grandchildren. It is zoned so that the whole family can be there together but retain privacy. Living, dining, kitchen, library, and porch occupy the center of the main floor. One-story wings on each side house two bedrooms and bathrooms apiece, and two more bedrooms and bathrooms and a study occupy the second floor of the central block. The house is mostly one room deep, allowing cross breezes and light from both sides.
The porch, a third of which is screened, is a main dining and living space, with a stone fireplace offering a cozy place to gather on summer evenings.
A barn with a loft provides storage for a car or boat off-season and serves as a big space for projects or parties in summer.
Klopf ArchitectureInspired by another mid-century modern home the client owned, this new residence represents a much larger 21st-century version built into the gently sloping hillside to take advantage of the sprawling hilltop views of the Sonoma valley. The quiet front facade leads guests into a formal entry that divides the house into private and public spaces. Rounding the corner into the great room, one is immediately hit by the breathtaking view that extends outward beyond the infinity pool and deck through a continuous wall of glass. In the opposite direction, each of the three bedrooms was designed with its own seating area and bathroom, creating private suites for family members and guests alike.
The linear design and open, flowing living spaces provide almost every room with outdoor access to the expansive patio, protected from the Sonoma heat by deep overhangs. Warm woods, clean lines, and a rhythmic post and beam ceiling design create a homey feeling of rest and relaxation, evoking the essence of modern California living.

The metallic frames around the glass wall cabinet doors compliment the stainless steel appliances and help emphasize the contemporary feel of the room.

Textures like exposed beams and geometric wild tiles give this home cool-kid elevation. The front of the house is reimagined with a fresh, new facade with a reimagined front porch and entrance. Inside, the tiled entry foyer cuts a stylish swath down the hall and up into the back of the powder room. The ground floor opens onto a cozy built-in banquette with a wood ceiling that wraps down one wall, adding warmth and richness to a clean interior. A clean white kitchen with a subtle geometric backsplash is located in the heart of the home, with large windows in the side wall that inject light deep into the middle of the house. Another standout is the custom lasercut screen features a pattern inspired by the kitchen backsplash tile. Through the upstairs corridor, a selection of the original ceiling joists are retained and exposed. A custom made barn door that repurposes scraps of reclaimed wood makes a bold statement on the 2nd floor, enclosing a small den space off the multi-use corridor, and in the basement, a custom built in shelving unit uses rough, reclaimed wood. The rear yard provides a more secluded outdoor space for family gatherings, and the new porch provides a generous urban room for sitting outdoors. A cedar slatted wall provides privacy and a backrest.

Green HammerThe owners of this inner- SE Buckman beauty wanted to reinvigorate the home's historic 1913 charm while tastefully balancing clean, contemporary design with deep energy upgrades. Green Hammer met the challenge with an expanded gourmet kitchen, fine woodwork, reclaiming the attic for a bedroom suite and yoga space with views of the Portland skyline and all the accouterments of a great Green Hammer project like heat recovery ventilation, comprehensive energy and weatherization upgrades, and a rooftop solar array.

FormAndFieldOur client saw our Miraloma Modern project and fell head over heels — to the extent that they inquired about replicating the design for their home. We honed in on elements they loved about the Miraloma Modern project and created a new design that incorporates their specific design perspective for a modern, yet timeless kitchen that felt down to earth. Her love for woods and an interesting backsplash served as the jumping off point for the project.
The lilac marble backsplash and countertops pushed the clients' design sensibilities. Although theyt did not initially plan to incorporate violet tones into the kitchen, the couple both (naturally) loved the color. The dramatic lilac veining is juxtaposed with the client’s proclivity for handcrafted works, including the Bantam Mini Ceramic Pendants by Dumais Made that are positioned above the island and the hand-blown Smoke Glass Arc Pendant by Allied Maker in the Breakfast Room.
Soft, wood elements are found throughout the space with the refinished existing oak wood floors and custom white oak cabinetry, while subtle nods to wood are found in the lighting fixtures.
