Taragano Design & Build completed this bathroom as part of an accessory dwelling unit in Contra Costa County, California. The tub stays rather than being replaced with a shower. In a unit that may house a family member long term or serve as a rental, a tub covers uses a shower does not, and removing it limits who the unit works for. Where floor area is tight, that decision is worth making deliberately instead of by default. A fixed glass panel handles splash instead of a full enclosure or a curtain track. It keeps the water contained at the shower end and leaves the rest of the tub open, which in a narrow room means nothing blocks the sightline or the light from the vanity wall. The sink is wall mounted with the faucet in the wall. That removes the cabinet, the trap cover, and the deck entirely, and the floor runs continuous underneath. In a bathroom this size, floor area you can see is the only way to make the room feel larger than it is. Ventilation runs through a ceiling register ducted to exterior.
