Designed by Black + Vernooy, built by Schatz Homes Designed to accommodate the clients' desire for a house that "sits beautifully and confidently" on its dramatic ridge-top site, the Mirador Residence takes full advantage of the site's natural terracing and sweeping Hill Country views by providing seamless transitions to its generous outdoor living spaces. The plan expresses the owner’s casual lifestyle and need for a variety of spaces strongly connected to the outdoors. Central Texas materials, such as native limestone and aromatic cedar, are chosen for their regional appropriateness and are deployed and detailed in ways designed to further integrate the house with its natural surroundings. The house comprises approximately 5900 square feet of living space wrapped around a hillside courtyard, and was completed in 2005.

The remodeling of the kitchen and bathroom forms the core of this interior renovation. The existing peninsula design and cabinetry broke up the ‘great room’ and stood the kitchen as a distinct element within the room. Our design strategy operates more on a principle of integration. As such, we created a galley condition with a spine of cabinetry and appliances that anchors to the long wall of the room. The feature design element is the solid Caesarstone backsplash which appears to be carved from the wall itself. The particular challenge in the windowless bathroom was how to create an inviting, expanded sense of depth without a resulting cave-like feel. Removal of a half wall, soffit and tub unified the space overall. We reinforced the unification with the deployment of a single large format tile spec. Smaller details such as touch latch cabinetry hardware and flush conditions between tile, wall and mirror further the principle that simpler is bigger, deeper and more inviting. We were also charged with elevating what was a pedestrian 1990’s townhouse to something more sophisticated and engaging. Our approach was to first remove builder grade detailing around windows and railings. Located in the San Francisco’s South of Market District, Four Seasons is a 43-story skyscraper consisting of more than 140 luxury private residences. AVDG deployed an array of audiovisual and automation systems in several residences and shared spaces throughout the tower. Integrated systems, designed and installed by AVDG, included distributed audio solutions, video, data & voice systems, lighting, window treatments and control systems.

Kitchen remodeling project where the homeowners elected to upgrade their kitchen to a more contemporary look by installing new custom cabinets. For this project it was crucial to find more working space in such a limited kitchen size. To accommodate this, we designed a full Naxo extension table for them. This practical system consists of a tabletop peninsula that fits in the space normally provided by the drawer. Simply open the front panel to deploy the extension table. For the cabinets, the homeowners went with an Elegante door in white supermat by Northern Contours. We then installed a new quartz countertop and backsplash both done in Carrara extra. To complete the new look a new subzero fridge, Wolf induction cooktop, microwave drawer and oven were installed.

Fabulous Eleanor Dining table from Drexel Heritage. Dining chairs from Henredon and an incredible light fixture from Robert Abbey. Our client was a single dad so we needed to say Masculine but yet sophisticated. Rug is from Loloi and is both tradtional and transitional. We painted the room white and tried to hide as much of the orange flooring as we could.
