Our clients were inspired by the idea of a master bedroom with beautiful, functional closet space, and a larger shower – more so than there loathed 36″ x 36″ corner acrylic unit. After a number of visits, a plan was devised to build 3 closet areas, and a large shower with a floating quartz bench. The bedroom would see a dividing wall, but not to the ceiling so light could come through. The biggest of the three closets would be closest to the window, with a room entirely devoted to that space. The floor in the bathroom would feature a heated flooring system, and the vanity would have backlight lighting on the mirror. The demolition uncovered some surprises, which restricted certain locations of plumbing, so the shower was enlarged and one of the closets was scrapped. In the end, it worked out fantastic. San Marino based clients were interested in developing a property that had been in their family for generations. This was an exciting proposition as it was one of the last surviving bayside double lots on the scenic Coronado peninsula in San Diego. They desired a holiday home that would be a gathering place for their large, close- knit family. This was an exciting proposition as it was one of the last surviving bayside double lots on the scenic Coronado peninsula in San Diego. They desired a holiday home that would be a gathering place for their large, close-knit family. Facing the Back Bay, overlooking downtown and the Bay Bridge, this property presented us with a unique opportunity to design a vacation home with a dual personality. One side faces a bustling harbor with a constant parade of yachts, cargo vessels and military ships while the other opens onto a deep, quiet contemplative garden. The home’s shingle-style influence carries on the historical Coronado tradition of clapboard and Craftsman bungalows built in the shadow of the great Hotel Del Coronado which was erected at the turn of the last century. In order to create an informal feel to the residence, we devised a concept that eliminated the need for a “front door”. Instead, one walks through the garden and enters the “Great Hall” through either one of two French doors flanking a walk-in stone fireplace. Both two-story bedroom wings bookend this central wood beam vaulted room which serves as the “heart of the home”, and opens to both views. Three sets of stairs are discretely tucked away inside the bedroom wings. In lieu of a formal dining room, the family convenes and dines around a beautiful table and banquette set into a circular window bay off the kitchen which overlooks the lights of the city beyond the harbor. Working with noted interior designer Betty Ann Marshall, we designed a unique kitchen that was inspired by the colors and textures of a fossil the couple found on a honeymoon trip to the quarries of Montana. We set that ancient fossil into a matte glass backsplash behind the professional cook’s stove. A warm library with walnut paneling and a bayed window seat affords a refuge for the family to read or play board games. The couple’s fine craft and folk art collection is on prominent display throughout the house and helps to set an intimate and whimsical tone. Another architectural feature devoted to family is the play room lit by a dramatic cupola which beacons the older grandchildren and their friends. Below the play room is a four car garage that allows the patriarch space to refurbish an antique fire truck, a mahogany launch boat and several vintage cars. Their jet skis and kayaks are housed in another garage designed for that purpose. Lattice covered skylights that allow dappled sunlight to bathe the loggia affords a comfortable refuge to watch the kids swim and gaze out upon the rushing water, the Coronado Bay Bridge and the romantic downtown San Diego skyline. This trendy music studio was made with the devoted musician in mind. It's simple vinyl siding with exposed rafters houses an ideal home music studio equipped with sound proof insulated walls.

The lake views from this townhome’s master bathroom are panoramic and breathtaking. Unfortunately, the original layout of the bathroom itself left much to be desired. An old whirlpool tub took up too much floor space, the shower stall was too small and the room itself was cramped and dysfunctional. The homeowners’ goals called for improving the room’s traffic flow, creating a larger and more functional shower stall with dual use, taking full advantage of the lake view and bringing a Romanesque theme to the space. The first step in the renovation was to replace the old whirlpool with a small corner tub that took up half the space. The rest of that side of the room is devoted to the beautiful Roman-style shower stall with double rain shower, double body sprays and built in niches, arch headers and a heavy glass enclosure. The stalls creative use of mosaic tiles and medallion has made this shower stall the jewel of this project. The vanity uses dark cherry cabinetry which complements the cream rustic tumbled marble and oil rubbed bronze fixtures. A beautiful, curved slab of exotic marble was cut for the countertop and two hand-crafted vessel sinks made from tumbled stone are on top of it. The homeowners have never been happier to use their master bathroom .They get to have their own Roman-style bath experience by taking a few steps from their bedroom. Looking out of this gorgeous bathroom overlooking the lake just cannot be expressed with words.

Our client had a 1930’s two car garage and a dream. He wanted a private light filled home office, enough space to have friends over to watch the game, storage for his record collection and a place to listen to music on the most impressive stereo we’ve ever seen. So we took on the challenge to design the ultimate man cave: we peeled away layers of the wall and folded them into casework - a workstation with drawers, record shelving with storage below for less aesthetic items, a credenza with a coffee setup and requisite bourbon collection, and a cabinet devoted to cleaning and preserving records. We peeled up the roof as well creating a new entry and views out into the bucolic garden. The addition of a full bathroom and comfy couch make this the perfect place to chill…with or without Netflix.

Camp Wobegon is a nostalgic waterfront retreat for a multi-generational family. The home's name pays homage to a radio show the homeowner listened to when he was a child in Minnesota. Throughout the home, there are nods to the sentimental past paired with modern features of today. The five-story home sits on Round Lake in Charlevoix with a beautiful view of the yacht basin and historic downtown area. Each story of the home is devoted to a theme, such as family, grandkids, and wellness. The different stories boast standout features from an in-home fitness center complete with his and her locker rooms to a movie theater and a grandkids' getaway with murphy beds. The kids' library highlights an upper dome with a hand-painted welcome to the home's visitors. Throughout Camp Wobegon, the custom finishes are apparent. The entire home features radius drywall, eliminating any harsh corners. Masons carefully crafted two fireplaces for an authentic touch. In the great room, there are hand constructed dark walnut beams that intrigue and awe anyone who enters the space. Birchwood artisans and select Allenboss carpenters built and assembled the grand beams in the home. Perhaps the most unique room in the home is the exceptional dark walnut study. It exudes craftsmanship through the intricate woodwork. The floor, cabinetry, and ceiling were crafted with care by Birchwood carpenters. When you enter the study, you can smell the rich walnut. The room is a nod to the homeowner's father, who was a carpenter himself. The custom details don't stop on the interior. As you walk through 26-foot NanoLock doors, you're greeted by an endless pool and a showstopping view of Round Lake. Moving to the front of the home, it's easy to admire the two copper domes that sit atop the roof. Yellow cedar siding and painted cedar railing complement the eye-catching domes.

The wall cabinets and tall cabinets feature a Glacier White finish and the base cabinets feature a Graphite Grey finish. The kitchen island countertop features waterfall sides in stainless steel. The perimeter countertop supplied is engineered quartz in the color London Gray by Caesarstone. The peninsula countertop for the seating area features a granite countertop in White Macabus.
