Southdowns Estate is situated within agricultural pastures that reflect the area’s legacy of dairy farming. The client requested a design with a contemporary interpretation that is still grounded in this heritage. House van Der Post reflects the heritage of the area in a contemporary context and encourages dialogue with its natural setting. The house is designed to be seen as three barnlike structures; one is separate, housing a garage and flat, the others are linked by a spine with skylights. A simple design philosophy results in architecture that enhances a sense of place. In contrast to off-shutter concrete, traditional vernacular elements are recalled through the use of red face brick and stone cladding excavated on site. Smooth plaster, aluminium and steel balance these robust materials. Open space kitchen and dining area. A fusion of modern and eclectic style incorporating the clients furniture and art pieces. A dialogue of wood, metal, and color. Selection of reclaimed wood to clad the pre-existing beam where the stainless steel hood functions beautifully.

One word - Spa. That was the homeowners request. These busy professionals work long hours, rotating from days to nights and back again. They were in need of a calm and relaxing space to come home to and recharge. Upon further dialogue, details of a favourite place emerged. They had honeymooned at a beautiful rustic Tofino hotel and spa - and absolutely loved how natural and organic the vibe was. We all agreed how great it would be recreate their honeymoon Spa at home. The wide open concept of the existing space meant finding ways to create a more cozy feel - we designed a new Bathroom layout with deep soaker tub, two person Shower, and new cabinetry with ample storage. We sought out materials that were not only beautiful to look at, but also had a natural and organic quality to them - we focused on soft, honed finishes, and warm undertones to create a serene overall feeling. In the words of the client “Cheers and thanks again for everything to date! The bathroom is heaven”

The clients and the architects agreed on a layout and a design which welcome the outdoors in and which allow this amazing house to dialogue with its surroundings in a really pleasant and natural manner.

The rehabilitation of a 1970's track home posed an interesting set of design puzzles. While the home has strong bones and good craftsmanship is was designed and build without an architectural sensibility of space. Our goal is to preform a series of minor operations to the home so that the surrounding land and the interior space can begin to have an architectural dialogue. Phase 1 of the design operations includes new apertures and windows, along with the reorganization of existing bathing spaces.

This design captures the spirit of eclectic modernity—boldly combining texture, form, and soulful detail. It embraces both clean contemporary lines and layered, curated elements, resulting in a space that feels thoughtfully collected, not predictable. Textural richness is at the forefront—soft upholstery pairs with sleek surfaces, and mixed finishes (polished metals, matte woods, and plush textiles) create a tactile and visual dialogue. The contrast between refined and cozy elements builds warmth and sophistication. The layout balances openness with intimacy. Thoughtfully placed furniture and visual rhythms guide movement through the space, allowing each area to feel both connected and distinct. Lighting is composed with subtlety and intention—ambient fixtures and layered lighting gently sculpt the environment. Shadows and highlights enhance the ambiance without overpowering the architectural interplay. This space tells a story of modern living infused with personality. It’s dynamic yet grounded—inviting curiosity, conversation, and comfort in equal measure.

A meeting... Of materials: stainless steel, glass, white Carrara marble, wood, black Marquinia stone. Of styles, Farmhouse Shaker style contemporary and classic yet gives of the warm feeling of a rustic vibe interior design, creating a third, which transcends time. Match of finishes: hammering, antique brass finish, trowel, natural finish, matte, shiny reflective glass. An encounter between optimal functionality and pure aesthetics, which coexist in perfect balance. Blue avio, a color blue kitchen, played down by the large contemporary island and Shaker Style Cabinets, which aesthetically create a clever play of depth. The workhorse is undoubtedly his island, a dialogue of styles between classic and contemporary, a combination of materials in which honey-colored wood meets Nero Marquinia stone in a brushed finish and marble. The visual contrast alone, but also the Italian excellence of the material quality, make it a true work of art.

The exterior finishes were selected for their durability and low-maintenance characteristics, as well as to provide a unique, complementary element to the site. Locally quarried granite and a sleek slate roof have been united with cement fiberboard shingles, board-and-batten siding, and rustic brackets along the eaves. The public spaces are located on the north side of the site in order to communicate with the public spaces of a future main house. With interior details picking up on the picturesque cottage style of architecture, this space becomes ideal for both large and small gatherings. The Broome Street Loft is a beautiful example of a classic Soho loft conversion. The design highlights its historic architecture of the space while integrating modern elements. The 14-foot-high tin ceiling, metal Corinthian columns and iconic brick wall are contrasted with clean lines and modern profiles, creating a captivating dialogue between the old and the new. The plan was completely revised: the bedroom was shifted to the side area to combine the living room and kitchen spaces into a larger, open plan space. The bathroom and laundry also shifted to a more efficient layout, which both widened the main living space and created the opportunity to add a new Powder Room. The high ceilings allowed for the creation of a new storage space above the laundry and bathroom, with a sleek, modern stair to provide access. The kitchen seamlessly blends modern detailing with a vintage style. An existing recess in the brick wall serves as a focal point for the relocated Kitchen with the addition of custom bronze, steel and glass shelves. The kitchen island anchors the space, and the knife-edge stone countertop and custom metal legs make it feel more like a table than a built-in piece. The bathroom features the brick wall which runs through the apartment, creating a uniquely Soho experience. The cove lighting throughout creates a bright interior space, and the white and grey tones of the tile provide a neutral counterpoint to the red brick. Conversation areas are an important part of creating ideal living room spaces. The seating at our Legacy Home project provides an ideal grouping. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One of the first steps, that our team does for a new project during the design phase, is to focus on drawing up a furniture layout concept. Before we ever start sourcing specific furniture, we will typically layout all furnishings in the home and run it by our client. This sparks dialogue about the client's preferences, so we do not waste time sourcing a layout they would not like. It also acts as a guide for us to look for certain dimensions on furnishings. Experienced space planning is one of the many benefits an interior designer brings to the home design process.

The frequent alternation of the levels of the ground offered the opportunity to obtain a continuous flat pavement and a small panoramic terrace which is located approximately halfway along the route.

Set within a wooded landscape, the Millwick Pool House and Guest House expand upon the original courtyard residence with a series of carefully scaled accessory structures. A new pool and pavilion extend daily life outdoors, strengthening the dialogue between architecture and trees. Nearby, the guest house introduces a pop-up dormer and clerestory windows that bring generous light into a compact footprint, creating a lofted retreat that feels both intimate and expansive. Together, the additions deepen the home’s connection to its forested setting while reinforcing the clarity and sculptural character of the original design.
