Lagoon-side property in the Bel Marin Keys, Novato, CA. Entertaining and enjoying the views were a primary design goal for this project. The project includes a large camaru deck with built-in seating. The concrete steps and pavers lead down to the water's edge. I included a sunken patio on one side and a beautiful Buddha statue on the other, surrounded by succulents and other low-water, contemporary plantings. I also used Dymondia ground cover to create a natural pathways within the garden. This project was just completed. More photos will be included in Spring when the plantings fill in. Living wall when first installed. This large living wall was the perfect solution to bring life to the home's front wall just next to the entrance. A variety of succulents, grass-like plants and cascading plants with flowers were chosen, designed and planted in long "waves" offering a variety of textures and colors. Just completed in Sept. 2019. The new flagstone pathway, and a small patio echo the terra-cotta tones of the house and are softened by Elfin Thyme planted between the pavers. The pathways and stairways throughout this natural hillside landscape offer places to pause or linger to take in the natural views both upclose and in the distance. A dwarf Strawberry Tree, Arbutus unedo 'Compacta', Yarrow, Foxtail Ferns and succulents brighten the front entrance. Colorful pottery and a Fermob Sixties Low Armchair complete the remodel. To gain more usable space in this narrow landscape and update the hardscaping and overgrown garden, my design reconfigured the pathway with poured-in-place concrete pavers accented by Mexican pebbles and a stunning variety of succulents and other site-appropriate plantings that thrive in shade and part sun. We removed the tree to create a patio area large enough to fit a table and chairs for a small group. Non-invasive/clumping Bamboo was added to help screen the patio and provide privacy. Other shade to part-shade plants were included that provide a variety of textures and colors throughout the seasons. Low-voltage lighting was installed for safety and ambiance. The dramatic transformation for this landscape replaced the lawn with a whimsical sculpture as a focal point, surrounded by Mexican pebbles and black limestone pavers and small sitting area.
