The "bumpout" behind wall-mount toilet was gleaned after finding plumbing for the toilet in hall bath (directly behind this wall) hit in EXACTLY the same spot, lol! This wall turned out be an unexpected surprise -- the architectural detail of which adds interest that truly adds to the overall design! Again -- all in the details, planned or otherwise :). One of my top 5 favorite projects to date (23 yrs) ...

Here you can see the Sherwin Williams Earthen Clay, pop a European Orange when the bright sunlight hits it directly. We have many bright orange Oriole birds in the backyard in the summer, and beautiful fall foliage on the Oak Trees in the Fall. We were inspired by our surroundings. We love our Woods so much that we kept one Oak Tree growing through our Deck, and built a seat around it for meditation and parties.

A fissure has developed on the hillside above this residence. This long narrow cleft in the ground directs water from up the hill right down into the yard of the house below. In a previous rain event, the retaining wall was overwhelmed, and the house was hit by a mudslide.

The master bathroom is one of our favorite features of this home. The spacious room gives husband and wife their own sink and storage areas. Toward the back of the room there is a copper Japanese soaking tub that fills from the ceiling. Frosted windows allow for plenty of light to come into the room while also maintaining privacy.

A growing family, a rambling Georgian estate. The question: how to imbue tradition with a fresh spirit? The charge was to maintain the idea of old school charm without the interior feeling just… old. An illustration could be found in picture molding (which we added, then painted to disappear into the walls) or a modern plaster sculpture teetering upon an old barrister bookcase. Charm, with a wink.

Our home is on top of a mountain, nestled next to South Mountain Reservation, which was the USA's first National Park. Our refresh paint colors are inspired by the beautiful peak fall colors of the mighty oak trees around us. The walls are Sherwin Williams Natural Tan, a very light warm color. The doors are Sherwin Williams Earthen Clay, which pop a European Orange when the bright sunlight hits it directly. We painted the window trims gray, like the Oak bark, and the gutter trims White Dove.

This large kitchen was desperately needing a refresh. It was far to traditional for the homeowners taste. Additionally, there was no direct path to the dining room as you needed to enter through a butlers pantry. I opened up two doorways into the kitchen from the dining room, which allowed natural light to flow in. The former butlers pantry was then sealed up and became part of the formerly to small pantry. The homeowners now have a 13' long walk through pantry, accessible from both the new bar area and the kitchen.

Peeking in the middle of the fence, just left of the center of the photo, is a mirror edged in grapevine. This mirror gives a 'view to another world' THROUGH the fence as it reflects what is behind the viewer. A wonderful folly and so easy to do! Just make sure no lights hit the mirror directly . . . north facing and away from a driveway or street is optimal!
