Experience urban sophistication meets artistic flair in this unique Chicago residence. Combining urban loft vibes with Beaux Arts elegance, it offers 7000 sq ft of modern luxury. Serene interiors, vibrant patterns, and panoramic views of Lake Michigan define this dreamy lakeside haven.
The minimalist modern kitchen is designed to reflect the ever-changing lakeside moods of sea and sky. The artfully aligned cabinets, dine-in island, and window-facing sink are outfitted with organic touches that bring warmth without distracting from the views.

For this project the house itself and the garage are the only original features on the property. In the front yard we created massive curb appeal by adding a new brick driveway, framed by lighted brick columns, with an offset parking space. A brick retaining wall and walkway lead visitors to the front door, while a low brick wall and crisp white pergola enhance a previous underutilized patio. Landscaping, sod, and lighting frame the house without distracting from its character.
In the back yard the driveway leads to an updated garage which received a new brick floor and air conditioning. The back of the house changed drastically with the seamless addition of a covered patio framed on one side by a trellis with inset stained glass opposite a brick fireplace. The live-edge cypress mantel provides the perfect place for decor. The travertine patio steps down to a rectangular pool, which features a swim jet and linear glass waterline tile. Again, the space includes all new landscaping, sod, and lighting to extend enjoyment of the space after dusk.

Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional master carpeted bedroom remodel in Portland with beige walls and no fireplace

Sweet little country cottage, this home was built in the 1930's in Dallas, Texas. The master bathroom shown in the before photo was extremely small, unappealing, and did not utilize the best space. With the K. Rue new design, a larger shower was created and a major update to the cabinetry was involved. Notice the shower controls are placed on the end opposite of the showerhead to allow enough space for the water to heat up without soaking the user. Trying to eliminate constant distractions and interruptions, white and gray were the key colors in the bathroom to make a fluid statement. The small Carrara marble mosaic used on the floor was carried into the shower floor for a consistent rhythm. For an emphasized country cottage look, these 4x10 gray subway ceramic tiles add a slight rough and handmade look to the walls with an intentionally thick grout line. The cabinetry was purchased as one unit to appear as a furniture piece with built-in lavatories and faucets. Gray walls add a great accent to the almost all-white bathroom for depth and drama.
Our client living in Dallas TX was referred to the K. Rue team through another client. We LOVE referrals and would be glad to help your friends or family with their design needs.

The daughter’s bedroom sports a sophisticated yet playful look with plaid-pattern wallpaper behind a four-poster bed that is paired with antique gold lights and an overhead industrial-style light. A long wooden study table on one side overlooks the sights and sounds of the Aarey forest, a welcome distraction from long bouts of studying.

This small kitchen packs a powerful punch. By replacing an oversized sliding glass door with a 24" cantilever which created additional floor space. We tucked a large Reid Shaw farm sink with a wall mounted faucet into this recess. A 7' peninsula was added for storage, work counter and informal dining. A large oversized window floods the kitchen with light. The color of the Eucalyptus painted and glazed cabinets is reflected in both the Najerine stone counter tops and the glass mosaic backsplash tile from Oceanside Glass Tile, "Devotion" series. All dishware is stored in drawers and the large to the counter cabinet houses glassware, mugs and serving platters. Tray storage is located above the refrigerator. Bottles and large spices are located to the left of the range in a pull out cabinet. Pots and pans are located in large drawers to the left of the dishwasher. Pantry storage was created in a large closet to the left of the peninsula for oversized items as well as the microwave. Additional pantry storage for food is located to the right of the refrigerator in an alcove. Cooking ventilation is provided by a pull out hood so as not to distract from the lines of the kitchen.

This OW Lee set is perfect for homes with a view. This table will sit you so your eye is not distracted by a deck railing or any other obstruction.

This basement family room area has hidden storage in the new custom built in cabinets where the TV sits about media cabinet. The fireplace's clean design does not distract the calmness of this sitting area.

Roller shades offer clean lines and a modern look. When it comes to roller shades, the fabric is everything. This light-filtering fabric allows natural light to flow into the room even when the shade is down. The clean lines and neutral color of the roller shade enhance the visual texture of the brick wall with no distractions and a strong design statement.

The shower tile was the inspiration for this whole bathroom. Honey Onyx was chosen to be the focal point and the rest of the bathroom was designed around that. Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures contrast beautifully, while still pulling out some of the darker colors in the tile and granite. White marble for the floor was used to complement without distracting from the onyx. A "rug" pattern is featured inside the shower as well as directly outside

This gold and walnut modern credenza would make the perfect storage cabinet in nearly any environment. It is handcrafted by us here in the USA utilizing only the highest quality materials and it’s made to last a lifetime. The raised geometric pattern of the gold doors and a touch of modernism, while simultaneously are a nod to Hollywood Regency styling. It sits atop a black platform base (wrapped in vinyl to give a little texture). It is a very versatile piece and would be well-suited as a modern TV stand/console, credenza, buffet, or stylish sideboard.
Behind each door you’ll find an adjustable inner shelf for maximum flexibility. Push-to-open doors eliminate the need for handles or knobs on the front so as to not distract from the stylish, modern look of the doors.
In addition to making these in many different widths and heights, we can also build yours in nearly any configuration. Want a more “open”, “airy” look? We can make yours with an open middle section (meaning doors only on the outsides). Or, need drawers? We can do that as well!
It is shown here in rich brown walnut, but yours can be made in any of the woods shown on our wood options page.
Other door colors are available as well. For a more vintage look, consider our vintage-orange doors. Or, for a more modern style, go with white. See our other items for examples in different color and configurations.
Looking for a more mid-century look? Take a look at this unit with our tapered, gold spindle legs as opposed to the platform base.

Plan 2 is inspired by a “Boho Luxe Meets Transitional” look. This look will incorporate a mixture of organic and natural boho elements, but with a transitional flair, so it still gives off a clean & streamline look that will attract future home owners. The overall design will contain warm mustard yellow hues, dark oranges & neutrals colors to brighten up the space and give the space a “homey” and cozy feeling the second that you enter the home. The loft in this home will be a “work from home” space. This will have a work station, but also a small lounge area to show off that this space can be utilized for multiple occasions such as a home office or just a comfortable place to relax on your lunch break. The girl’s game room will feature a mixture of white & pastel pink colors, this is going to make the room look fun, but also cohesive with the rest of the design, so it does not distract from the rest of the home. Lastly, the boy’s room is meant to be for someone in elementary school and his favorite hobby is skateboarding. For this room we will pull in blue tones mixed with metals to give it a masculine look.

This bathroom was very cluttered and the tub was loaded with soap, shampoo, and brushes. I wanted to have a subtle look of a spa so I rolled up the homeowners existing white towels, and placed them in a basket to show a clean display. You can still see the counter, vanity, flooring, tub, shower, and fixtures to get a good idea of the space without the distraction of decor.
