Rodwin Architecture & Skycastle Homes Location: Boulder, Colorado, USA Interior design, space planning and architectural details converge thoughtfully in this transformative project. A 15-year old, 9,000 sf. home with generic interior finishes and odd layout needed bold, modern, fun and highly functional transformation for a large bustling family. To redefine the soul of this home, texture and light were given primary consideration. Elegant contemporary finishes, a warm color palette and dramatic lighting defined modern style throughout. A cascading chandelier by Stone Lighting in the entry makes a strong entry statement. Walls were removed to allow the kitchen/great/dining room to become a vibrant social center. A minimalist design approach is the perfect backdrop for the diverse art collection. Yet, the home is still highly functional for the entire family. We added windows, fireplaces, water features, and extended the home out to an expansive patio and yard. The cavernous beige basement became an entertaining mecca, with a glowing modern wine-room, full bar, media room, arcade, billiards room and professional gym. Bathrooms were all designed with personality and craftsmanship, featuring unique tiles, floating wood vanities and striking lighting. This project was a 50/50 collaboration between Rodwin Architecture and Kimball Modern

Some of our goals and solutions were obvious in this Timeless Style Renovation, other challenges required loads of plotting and planning. Our client inherited his Marlton, New Jersey childhood home and for years chose to keep it ‘as is’ out of respect for his family and because (truth) it was going to be a significant investment — the entire house needed to be refreshed! Flooring, fireplace, removal of walls, windows enlarged, many pocket doors added, all bathrooms redesigned, electric/ gas not to code (from 1965), a massive 300lb safe to incorporate/ tuck away somewhere, planning for a future potential main level in-law suite — the list was very long! Inspiration was easy: they had won awards for their stunning koi pond and landscaping, and they love to entertain. Getting these high powered professionals who were used to running divisions of huge corporations to hand over the reins … NOT so easy. Thankfully, they now can’t stop singing our praises! We gave this room colorful personality by adding a beautiful hand knotted area rug, some eclectic red media cabinets, and great textural fabric for her chair and sofa. Selling Style embraced the challenge of transforming an entryway defined by an unusual void in the center of a hallway wall. Inspired by the owners' global sensibilities, we reimagined the space as a striking feature wall that honors their diverse, worldly style. A custom moss wall insert now fills the void, bringing organic texture and life into the space. The surrounding walls are adorned with a bold, graphic printed wallpaper in rich black tones with delicate beige detailing, creating an eye-catching contrast that both surprises and welcomes. Round light fixtures replaced the existing bulbs, adding softness and cohesion. As a final touch, an original flag from Ghana dating back to the early 1900s hangs proudly, infusing the space with history and depth—a true homage to the owners' connection to all corners of the globe.

This cobblestone-like pattern draws its inspiration from the charming township of Donegal, Ireland where in the early 19th Century, Donegal tweeds became a namesake for the classic coarse texture and tweedy colors that we have captured in this exciting, new introduction. Earthy browns, turf inspired taupes, hazy neutrals and cobblestone grays are among Donegal’s many diverse color choices. Made of 100% approved nylon, Colchester’s random loop pile texture is a combination of exceptional durability and ease of care.
