This Contemporary Cape Cod style vacation home was designed for the tiniest lot. Thorough knowledge of the Municipal Code, and creative design allowed the site its maximum potential and a spacious, expansive feeling home. In order to save a historic childhood home, originally designed by renowned architect Alfred Giles, from being demolished after an estate stale, the current owners commissioned Fisher Heck to help document and dismantle their home for relocation out to the Hill Country. Every piece of stone, baluster, trim piece etc. was documented and cataloged so that it could be reassembled exactly like it was originally, much like a giant puzzle. The home, with its expansive front porch, now stands proud overlooking the sprawling landscape as a fully restored historic home that is sure to provide the owners with many more memories to come.

According to Kate, the remodel process did not intimidate her at all. “I’m that special person that loves building IKEA furniture. It’s like adult LEGOs, but the life-size Swedish edition! I figured we could save money on our remodel by building the cabinetry and drawers myself,” she notes. “I created a numbering system (based off of IKD’s documents) for my fantastic general contractor, who did the actual installation in terms of hanging the cabinet framework and getting everything in the right place. The installation was a total breeze. He loved the IKD documentation. Vinyl siding has come a long way since I (Paul Despenas – VP Marketing) installed the companies 1st job in 1982. The product was Alside D-5 Endura Supreme. I drove by the job 6 years later and it was still on the house, wall lines looked good, but the color had faded from nice Beige to a dirty white.
