Careful edits and updates were needed in our client's guest bedroom. Their current metal sleigh bed was far too bulky and heavy visually in addition to taking up too much precious space in this tiny bedroom. The room felt cluttered with far too much furniture, cold and downright unwelcoming. For balance, the bed was relocated to the opposite wall. A bold Nikki Chu wallcovering with a playful abstract design was then added to create a focal point and interest. To free up space and to add balance to this room, a 'headboard only' design (minus the footboard) was selected. The headboard's teak and jute elements paired well with this new backdrop to add great texture and interest to the room. Less furniture, visually exciting feature wall and crisp draperies in a free form pattern helped to complete the look.

As I drive from job to job is never ceases to amaze me how uninspiring and even downright unappealing the decks are in new development neighborhoods. While doing a finish carpentry job in the formal living and dining rooms the homeowner asked me to come outside to get my opinion on his deck. The previous owner of the property invested a great deal of money on a well designed deck but because it was completely close in under the deck the decking had deteriorated. We removed the decking and surround and power-washed the framing, then allowed it to dry completely before installing the new decking. We were careful when removing the decking and were able to save the white vinyl hand railing. Before installing the new decking we checked and corrected all of the framing for level, plumed all of the posts, and replace all of the rotten stair stringer. We then installed all of the blocking for the new decking perimeter boards and partitions. The decking went on smoothly with a new pneumatic hidden fastener nailer which drives 3" screws into the framing. The stair risers and rim board are in white paint grade vinyl (PGV) to compliment the dark wood tone decking. The overall look of the deck exceeded the homeowners hopes and the price was below budget. 95% of each composite decking board contents recycled and reclaimed plastic and wood fibers. 70% of all the plastic bags recycled in the U.S. are part of an in-store collection program used by TREX. The original backsplash options were downright depressing for this client, a visual artist. The builder offered two standard sizes of ceramic tile, but the square ceramic or subway tile didn’t come close to meeting this artist’s aesthetic sensibilities or eclectic tastes. Instead, the client selected the 1x3 Lunada Bay iridescent glass mosaic tiles she had seen on her very first visit to the Kitchen & Bath Design Studio. Our design plans included many fixtures and details that we specified and required professional installation and careful handling. Innovative helped us make reasonable decisions. All agreed on work was fulfilled and they completed all this in just under four months. Engineering, construction, supervision, and I cannot even begin to describe how much thanks we have for the demolition crew! Our multiple, detailed project designs from Raul and professional design advice from Mindy and the connections she recommended are all of the best quality. Diego Jr., Trevor and his team kept everything on track and neat and tidy every single day and Diego Sr., Mark, Ismael, Albert, Santiago and team are true craftsmen who follow-up and make the most minuscule woodworking details perfect. The cabinets by Tim and electrical work and installation of fixtures by Kemchan Harrilal-BB and Navindra Doolratram, and Augustine and his crew on tile and stone work – all perfection.
