This bedroom is small and had a tiny existing closet and poor flow, so we had to get creative. We reworked the layout to allow for a walk in closet and replaced old carpet with bamboo flooring. By adding a loft bed, we gained a large custom desk space, complete with tool chest as desk storage. Since my client’s view of the ceiling got a little closer, we added interest with bold color and design. A contemporary dresser and comfortable reading chair round out the space. The existing bathroom had a leaking shower with odd angles. To save money, we kept the angles and added a European shower tower, maximizing luxury and function in a tight space. The wall mounted vanity is visually lighter than a traditional vanity and makes the room feel larger. And we can’t forget the giraffe – a fun and colorful accent for a true animal lover! Each of the bunk beds has a trundle and on the right is a sofa from Resource Furniture that reconfigures to a bunk bed. In this room we kept the modern coastal trend but incorporated a playful tone by adding extra pops of color. Behind the beds we placed a bold blue and white striped wall paper to bring in a nautical element while also brining in texture with oversized woven pendants. From Plain to Fabulous A great thing about building a new home is that you are starting fresh. Being a Florida decorator, many of our clients are moving from the Northern or Mid-West states. We advise them to leave their often dark, large pieces of traditional furniture behind and just bring pieces that have value to them whether sentimental or monetary. This dining room was a pleasure because it was a clean slate with large windows letting in the morning sun. The floors are hand-scraped engineered wood in Brazilian walnut which give the entire home a warm feel to counteract the stark white walls. The home owners have a large art collection and specifically chose the white paint so that the paintings can be seen at their best and moved around the home easily. The owners host many dinner parties throughout the year and wanted a table that was virtually indestructible, and that visitors didn’t have to be careful with. This long Mango wood trestle table comfortably seats between eight and ten and has an antique grey, distressed look that is similar to driftwood. We alternated turquoise and light blue dining chairs for some contrast. An outstanding centerpiece for the room is a dazzling grey chandelier with an outstanding display of brilliant graphite crystals. Hundreds of faceted crystals are suspended from ten fluted glass arms. Wall sconces in chrome with grey linen shades were added and all the lighting is on dimmers for a choice of bright or mood lighting depending on the required ambience. To control the harsh Florida sunlight that can leech color out of furnishings within weeks, we installed light grey Silhouette window shades which keep approximately 97% of harmful UV rays out but still let in light even when fully closed. Traversing draperies were installed floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall providing a spectacular color wall of cream, green, purple and turquoise. The hardware is hidden behind the crown moulding for a clean, modern look. The best part of this design story lies in the large-scale artwork. The home owner had been given the painting years ago when she lived in Philadelphia but the colors didn’t suit her Northern palette. The painting was hidden in the attic but during the move was crated and sent to Florida. After not seeing it for sixteen years she had forgotten what it looked like and when she saw the crate about to be off-loaded asked the removal crew to take it away. At the last minute she decided to look in the crate and was surprised and delighted to find the perfect artwork for her dining room! Lastly, hand-torn wallpaper was installed in a custom color in the tray ceiling. This master bedroom suite was initially wanting for cohesiveness and seating options that would allow our clients to relax from their days of traveling. We began with a color palette that was "spa" like and would allow them to rest, both in the bedroom and sitting room. They loved the neutral hues with splashes of green & accents of yellow throughout. We used an existing bed and dresser but added custom upholstered pieces along with case goods. We painted all of the surfaces, including the trim, a clean color palette, with the exception of the sitting area ceiling & the accent wall behind the bed that showcases a monochromatic wall covering. Not only was designing the bedroom portion a priority, but giving them ample options for sitting or laying to relax was of utmost importance. The sitting area already had an abundance of natural sunlight from the windows, so we added custom stationary drapery panels, mostly neutral furniture pieces, and pops of yellow with the lamp and accessories. A strong bed is juxtaposed with crisp cotton linens and carpet, and the boy's own artwork is framed on the wall. The curtains are sheer but there is a blackout roll-up shade behind for room darkening. An antique drafting table doubles as desk when needed.

This new home was built on an old lot in Dallas, TX in the Preston Hollow neighborhood. The new home is a little over 5,600 sq.ft. and features an expansive great room and a professional chef’s kitchen. This 100% brick exterior home was built with full-foam encapsulation for maximum energy performance. There is an immaculate courtyard enclosed by a 9' brick wall keeping their spool (spa/pool) private. Electric infrared radiant patio heaters and patio fans and of course a fireplace keep the courtyard comfortable no matter what time of year. A custom king and a half bed was built with steps at the end of the bed, making it easy for their dog Roxy, to get up on the bed. There are electrical outlets in the back of the bathroom drawers and a TV mounted on the wall behind the tub for convenience. The bathroom also has a steam shower with a digital thermostatic valve. The kitchen has two of everything, as it should, being a commercial chef's kitchen! The stainless vent hood, flanked by floating wooden shelves, draws your eyes to the center of this immaculate kitchen full of Bluestar Commercial appliances. There is also a wall oven with a warming drawer, a brick pizza oven, and an indoor churrasco grill. There are two refrigerators, one on either end of the expansive kitchen wall, making everything convenient. There are two islands; one with casual dining bar stools, as well as a built-in dining table and another for prepping food. At the top of the stairs is a good size landing for storage and family photos. There are two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, as well as a movie room. What makes this home so special is the Casita! It has its own entrance off the common breezeway to the main house and courtyard. There is a full kitchen, a living area, an ADA compliant full bath, and a comfortable king bedroom. It’s perfect for friends staying the weekend or in-laws staying for a month.

The guest room is anchored by a fully upholstered bed with a tufted back and nailhead trim. The cream herringbone fabric pops against the patterned grasscloth wallpaper by Schumacher. Linen bedding adds texture to the space, while wool drapery panels soften the large bay window. Heidi Zeiger

Upstairs, the bedrooms maintain much of the neutrals found on the first level as well as the natural wood and fabrics. In the master bedroom, a four-poster bed with gunmetal finish and Ralph Lauren fabric dominates the room. Other items were repurposed like the bed’s foot bench, which was originally a narrow table intended to sit behind a sofa. Since the table fit the space requirements, Musso’s team shortened the legs and added a cushion. Carrying the wood theme to the second level, three Moroccan bowls that Musso had purchased on a trip to North Africa in 2011, were altered by the addition of round mirrors and hung on the wall.
