Two walls between the living room and kitchen would be eliminated and structural revisions were needed for a common wall shared a wall with a neighbor. With the wall removals and the addition of multiple slider doors, the main level now has an open layout. Everything in the home went from dark to luminous as sunlight could now bounce off white walls to illuminate both spaces. Our aim was to create a beautiful modern kitchen which fused the necessities of a functional space with the elegant form of the contemporary aesthetic. The kitchen playfully mixes frameless white upper with horizontal grain oak lower cabinets and a fun diagonal white tile backsplash. Gorgeous grey Cambria quartz with white veining meets them both in the middle. The large island with integrated barstool area makes it functional and a great entertaining space. The master bedroom received a mini facelift as well. White never fails to give your bedroom a timeless look. Building a Dream: the Creation of a Wine Cellar A dream house is more than walls and a roof, it is a place full of things that you love. When David Rabin got the chance to build the house of his dreams, it wasn’t enough to simply use stone instead of brick or wood instead of tile. He had to fill it with people and things he loved. So, as a passionate collector of wine, he set out to build a custom wine cellar. He had never built a wine cellar before and had his reservations. He wondered what it would take to make it beautiful, a place where he could store cases of wine as well as proudly show off special, trophy bottles. “One of my biggest worries, though, was space,” said David. “We knew we wanted a wine cellar, and that we wanted it to be gorgeous, but we had no idea where it would be or if we even had the space for one.” Glenview Haus had already given David his custom, wooden entry door and was ready to create a high-quality wine cellar that was customized to fit his vision. David recalls with awe how helpful the team at Glenview Haus was when approaching the project he assigned them. “What the team at Glenview Haus did was designate space, and then worked to maximize the space for ultimate storage and efficiency,” said David. “We were nervous that the smaller space would eliminate our ability to make it beautiful. But the team at Glenview Haus was able to work with our interior designer to make it absolutely stunning.” Wine Cellar Cooling System By installing a state-of-the-art cooling system that automatically keeps the cellar at the ideal temperature and humidity level, Glenview Haus was able to create the ideal wine cellar environment. The team helped David choose from a variety of furniture-grade wood species, that they could handcraft so as to add all the detail that would help make David’s wine cellar uniquely designed. Glenview Haus’ team also collaborated with the interior designer to create the perfect atmosphere for David’s custom wine cellar. Wine Cellar Craftsmanship Glenview Haus designed a see-through glass entry system, to protect and show off the extensive collection of wine. Inside they helped create a masterpiece, from floor to ceiling. The team brought in brick veneers for the walls to complement the stained Mahogany horizontal display, and that gave the entire cellar a rustic feel. A textured, painted ceiling completed the look, contributing to the incredible, other-worldly feel. David’s artisan, custom wine cellar did exactly what he dreamed it would do and transported all visitors to a vineyard on the Italian countryside. “The team constructed us a space to hang a landscape painting of a vineyard,” said David. “This painting, along with all of the other amazing design elements give viewers looking into the cellar the feeling that they are outside looking into something that you’d imagine would only exist in Italy.” Glenview Haus helped David create a wine cellar that not only had ample storage but that was customized and designed to meet his ultimate vision.

This picture, caught at sunrise, highlights the contrast of materials that is hallmark to the contemporary modern home. Shinta Muljani, who designed her home, had a vision of stone, modern, and wood siding working in harmony together. The siding is James Hardie panels with Tamlyn recessed channel spacers. The entry door is stained, clear vertical grain fir. Instead of wood, we recommended horizontally applied Fiberon Composite siding. This material offers the warm tones of wood while virtually eliminating the high maintenance of wood. The windows are Marvin All-Ultrex, fiberglass.

A stunning Kitchen remodel that totally transformed this home. Completely changing the previous layout with builder grade cherry cabinets, a typical peninsula island extending from the left perimeter wall, paired with the non functional, small footprint, this Kitchen needed a complete gut. Our team had an immediate vision. One that would involve a new layout including different appliance locations and extending full width of the perimeter walls left to right to maximize the space. We included a prep area, small hidden appliance garage for storage and the extra large island allowing for enough seating to eliminate a traditional table and chairs. The full counter to ceiling tile backsplash adds the perfect detail to the warm wood floating shelves that enhances the tall ceiling height along with a custom, floor to ceiling wine refrigerator with custom iron and glass door in the center to the space creating a new focal point with the waterfall edge island. The refreshing light and bright palette, luxurious finishes while leaning in to the contrast and warm modern feel.

Squaring the room and adding natural materials erased the memory of the lack luster space and converted it to a bright and welcoming spa oasis. The home was a new build in 2005 and it looked like all the builder’s material choices remained. The client was clear on their design direction but were challenged by the differing ceiling heights and were looking to hire a design-build firm that could resolve that issue. This local Glen Ellyn couple found us on Instagram (@kitchenstudioge, follow us ?). They loved our designs and felt like we fit their style. They requested a full primary bath renovation to include a large shower, soaking tub, double vanity with storage options, and heated floors. The wife also really wanted a separate make-up vanity. The biggest challenge presented to us was to architecturally marry the various ceiling heights and deliver a streamlined design. The existing layout worked well for the couple, so we kept everything in place, except we enlarged the shower and replaced the built-in tub with a lovely free-standing model. We also added a sitting make-up vanity. We were able to eliminate the awkward ceiling lines by extending all the walls to the highest level. Then, to accommodate the sprinklers and HVAC, lowered the ceiling height over the entrance and shower area which then opens to the 2-story vanity and tub area. Very dramatic! This high-end home deserved high-end fixtures. The homeowners also quickly realized they loved the look of natural marble and wanted to use as much of it as possible in their new bath. They chose a marble slab from the stone yard for the countertops and back splash, and we found complimentary marble tile for the shower. The homeowners also liked the idea of mixing metals in their new posh bathroom and loved the look of black, gold, and chrome. Although our clients were very clear on their style, they were having a difficult time pulling it all together and envisioning the final product. As interior designers it is our job to translate and elevate our clients’ ideas into a deliverable design. We presented the homeowners with mood boards and 3D renderings of our modern, clean, white marble design. Since the color scheme was relatively neutral, at the homeowner’s request, we decided to add of interest with the patterns and shapes in the room. We were first inspired by the shower floor tile with its circular/linear motif. We designed the cabinetry, floor and wall tiles, mirrors, cabinet pulls, and wainscoting to have a square or rectangular shape, and then to create interest we added perfectly placed circles to contrast with the rectangular shapes. The globe shaped chandelier against the square wall trim is a delightful yet subtle juxtaposition. The clients were overjoyed with our interpretation of their vision and impressed with the level of detail we brought to the project. Eichler Orange is a stunning expression of mid-century modern architecture. The vision in modernizing this historic Eichler home with a 21st-century makeover was to honor the work of Joseph Eichler and restore it to the 1964 icon of California modernism it once was. The clean aesthetics of this home features glass walls, post and beam, tongue and groove ceilings, and oversize porcelain tile floors throughout. The free-flowing indoor/outdoor floorplan is highlighted with a signature atrium, and all material selections were made to honor the time period. Custom cherry cabinets and warm slab walnut doors grace the interior. This home had significant structural termite damage with three-quarters of the framing needing replacement. Additionally, the original house did not come close to meeting the current seismic codes. During reconstruction, we upgraded the post and beam structure with seismic hold-downs and concealed fasteners. The house lacked energy efficiency due to its flat roof and did not meet California’s current Title 24 energy-efficient standards. While honoring its era, this fully renovated residence is now updated with today’s energy efficiencies, including all-aluminum dual-glazed windows and doors, new spray foam insulation atop the flat roof, and tankless water heaters. A new photovoltaic solar system was added. We abandoned the radiant floor heat and installed a new high-efficiency ductless heating and air units to each room. This increased the building’s performance and provided each room with its own thermostat and control. This system also allowed us to eliminate soffits and ductwork and maintain the exposed tongue and groove ceiling throughout the home. The living space next to the family and dining room was repurposed to relocate the washer and dryer and allowed space to add a third bathroom. The primary bathroom was also reconfigured for a larger layout. The sleek kitchen design includes frameless Crystal Cabinets, professional-grade Miele appliances, a large stainless steel Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, and a generous Caesarstone countertop workspace. The outdoor backyard living space captures the natural beauty of Southern California and mid-century modern features, including drought-resistant landscaping with decomposed granite planter areas and all-new concrete hardscape.
