Inspiration for a transitional home design remodel in Atlanta
Inspiration for a transitional home design remodel in Atlanta

For a Buffalo-based family with a longstanding connection to Deer Valley, Eagle’s Nest marks a return to a place shaped by childhood winters beneath Bald Mountain. Now being created for the next generation, the home offers a setting for shared traditions, time outdoors, and seasons spent together.
The interiors take on a more masculine character, expressed through substantial materials, deeper tones, tailored detailing, and a restrained sense of warmth. The result is a home that feels grounded, personal, and quietly enduring, rooted in memory while designed for what comes next.

The Springbank New Build showcases a perfect balance of thoughtful design and refined craftsmanship; built by Widesky Custom Homes. From the earliest planning stages, every decision—inside and out—was guided by an appreciation for enduring style and livable function. The exterior palette was chosen to harmonize with the natural surroundings, creating an inviting first impression and setting the tone for the elegant interiors that follow. Within the home, RCID designed custom millwork throughout, including tailored solutions for the kitchen, vanities, closets, and striking feature walls. Each piece was developed with purpose, uniting the home through a cohesive palette while allowing distinct personality in every room. Statement details—such as the dynamic kitchen cabinetry, layered textures in the ensuite, and the calm, tonal palette of the primary suite—reflect the homeowners’ style and vision.

Set on a narrow lakefront parcel defined by tight setbacks and limited hardscape allowance, this modern cabin demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform restriction into possibility. Carefully composed to preserve privacy while opening fully toward the water, the home feels both expansive and intimate—an elevated retreat grounded in its landscape.
Though modest in footprint, the residence lives generously. Four bedrooms are tucked efficiently within the plan, including a light-filled quilting studio that reflects the homeowners’ creative life. Each bedroom opens onto its own private balcony, offering moments of pause and perspective with views stretching across lake and countryside.
The upper level also includes a family room, providing a quiet gathering space removed from the activity below. From here, the home’s vertical volume becomes apparent, as daylight pours down through a dramatic two-story space framed by glass facing the lake.
At the center of the home, a custom steel-and-wood plank stair acts as both circulation and sculpture. Rising through the double-height volume, it leads the eye upward to a tall Nelson cigar lamp suspended above—an intentional moment of drama and delight.
The main floor is designed around connection and flow. Kitchen, dining, and living areas exist as one continuous space, unified by light, views, and material warmth. A 12-foot-long island anchors the kitchen, serving as the natural gathering place for morning coffee, family meals, and summertime buffet-style entertaining. When fully opened, large folding accordion glass doors dissolve the boundary between inside and out, allowing the screened porch to become a true extension of the living space.
Function is carefully layered throughout the plan. A mudroom entry from the tucked-under two-car garage includes a powder room and utility closet, while a generous entry closet provides essential storage and has been dimensioned to accommodate a future elevator.
Designed intentionally for aging in place, the home incorporates zero-threshold access from the garage, wide halls and doorways, reinforced wall blocking for future grab bars, and infrastructure for a future elevator—ensuring long-term comfort without compromising design.
Clad in dark painted board-and-batten siding, the exterior minimizes visual scale and allows the home to recede quietly into the landscape. Recessed balconies and façade elements are wrapped in warm wood-look siding, adding depth and contrast while bringing warmth into the interior. At night, light spills softly from within, and the cabin glows along the shoreline—welcoming, calm, and enduring.

The owners hail from Europe and were looking for a home built of materials that would last. The steel frame, cementitious siding, concrete and glass making up the structure will endure for many years, making the house more sustainable.
Built over a basement, the two story home uses two large glass lanterns, or light tunnels, to bring in daylight to all levels. One functions as the stairwell and both exhaust heat through operable skylights at the top. The basement is also daylit by a large exterior light well that creates a small walk-out patio.
The bedrooms open onto a roof deck. Downstairs the secondary bedroom suite is used as a full-time office. The open plan living space and kitchen open to the rear yard to bring in light and view. The front of the house is shaded by an ancient oak tree that was carefully preserved throughout construction.

This kitchen remodeling project in Illinois, is part of a whole house remodel Kitchen and Bath Shop did recently. In this kitchen, we used quartz countertops, a farmhouse sink, open shelves, and white, long-endurance cabinets.

This project breathed new life into1940s residence, centering on the transformation of its kitchen into a traditional Craftsman farmhouse masterpiece. The design prioritizes warmth, sophistication, and an inviting atmosphere, with a prominent use of natural wood materials to ensure a timeless and enduring aesthetic. We meticulously reconfigured the kitchen's layout, seamlessly integrating a peninsula and dry bar, and opening the space to the dining room to enhance flow and connectivity. In striking contrast to the kitchen's traditional elegance, we expanded the pantry into a spacious walk-in area, featuring bold wallpaper and custom designs for maximized storage. The adjoining living room offers a relaxed and moody atmosphere, featuring dark furniture, vintage finds, and unique accents—all infused with the family's favorite green hues to foster creativity and comfort.

The interiors take on a more masculine character, expressed through substantial materials, deeper tones, tailored detailing, and a restrained sense of warmth. The result is a home that feels grounded, personal, and quietly enduring, rooted in memory while designed for what comes next.

This angle showcases the refined craftsmanship and layered detailing throughout the master bathroom. Warm wood cabinetry, tailored hardware, and classic tile selections create a timeless foundation that feels both elevated and approachable.
Arched mirrors, carefully selected fixtures, and subtle lighting accents add character without overpowering the space, while the mix of textures keeps the room from feeling overly formal. Every finish was chosen to feel comfortable and enduring — materials that will age gracefully over time.
Rather than chasing trends, this bathroom reflects a considered approach to design, where quality, restraint, and personal style come together in a space meant to be enjoyed daily.
