Inspiration for a timeless living room remodel in Salt Lake City with a standard fireplace

A double waterfall wine rack display in the center of a custom wine cellar. Double deep racks line the edges of the cellar, with triple deep racks beneath which can fit wooden crates for bulk storage. The double-triple format allows for a solid countertop for tasting and other displays. Constructed with natural all heart redwood. Temperature and humidity controlled by a ductless WhisperKool cooling system.

I used an Arizona flagstone for the pathways for several reasons; it has a smaller “footprint” than other flagstones as it comes from just one state over from California. I love that the pieces could be sourced in extra-large sizes, which were perfect for their large scale garden. This flagstone is also authentic to the property, as it would most likely be the same stone used at the existing 50’s ranch house during the time. I kept the design very loose and natural. I chose lots of flowing grasses and perennials with blooms that are repeated in the views in the distance. I chose a pool plaster that has a similar color as the soil in the water beyond, so the water wouldn’t be in conflict with the beautiful body of water beyond. Photo credit by Marie Buck Photography

Located in Silverleaf's beautiful Horseshoe Canyon, this 7,700 square foot Ranch Hacienda serves as a vehicle for outdoor space. The owners' desire for "classically traditional" with a lighter, brighter, and airier flavor than the neighborhood's popular, heavier Tuscan fare found expression in exterior materials and detailing that is simple in nature. The Nate Berkus-designed interiors complete the material and color palette with warm restraint. The home, designed for a family with an extreme focus on outdoor living and sports, includes a basement equipped with a home gym, batting cage, and steam room. Outdoor facilities include a sport court and putting green. Additional features of the home include a motor court with dual garages, separate guest quarters, and a walk-in cooler. The clients, receptive to the architect's exploration of multi-use spaces reflecting modern life, gained a laundry room which functions more as a home command station for a highly engaged mother than a place for chores. The multi-use room includes a washer and dryer, wrapping station, project area, winter storage, and her office. This is a new space in the client's home with the Vintage View racking system. The cellar holds around 1,300 bottles along with space for 20 magnum-sized bottles. The entire space is cooled by a WhisperKool which is mounted in the ceiling.
