Views can’t get much better than this, especially framed by Montana Timber Products ranchwood™ Timbers. This magnificent rustic home perched over the highlands of Wyoming exhibits all that our company is about.
The Ranchwood Prairie finish was chosen to accentuate the natural beauty surrounding this high-mountain Wyoming cabin. Montana Timber Products has the ability to work with Timbers in both Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar and we have several texturing options from a very smooth surfaced option to a Pioneer texture that will look like it lived through a shootout at the OK Saloon.
Our flagship product, ranchwood™ is Montana Timber Products’ chemical free, kiln dried, alternative milled rough stock wood.
As an ideal reclaimed lumber alternative, the aesthetically pleasing rustic barn wood ranchwood™ is the result of an environmentally safe production process.
Offering uncompromising natural, rustic beauty, ranchwood™ is typically less expensive than antique reclaimed barnwood.
Here we see a horizontal square edge lap siding finished in Ranchwood Eastern and hi-lighted by the Ranchwood Prairie natural wood columns. Montana Timber Products is an excellent choice to provide a variety of exposed beams and exposed timber accents, both for exterior and interior applications.
Wire Brushed and Circle Sawn are Montana Timber Products typical texturizing options, but Montana Timber Products is a custom millwork shop that caters to our customer’s needs.
Circle Sawn texture seen on Montana Timber Products natural wood siding is created by large circular saw blades used in more traditional milling practices.
Added physical and aesthetic depth to the wood grain is available as the Wire Brushed option.
Greater surface area is added during the texturizing process, allowing Seal-Once, 100% NO VOC waterfproofer to more effectively penetrate the wood.
Seal-Once is guaranteed for ten years from water ingress and is safe for exterior and interior use, pets and children.
Montana Timber Products receives repeat orders from contractors who appreciate the fast turnaround time, the custom pre-finishes, variety of color options, and the ability to handle small columns or large ridge beams such a 10″ x 30″ beam applied to this project.
If the environmentally friendly and the renewable aspect of natural wood siding is important to you, be sure to do your homework when choosing your siding, interior accents, trim, timbers, or other wood siding products. Some companies choose to use degenerative chemicals to achieve the desired look and texture of rustic wood siding. This is not the case with Montana Timber Products.
Vintage wood, reclaimed barn wood and reclaimed barn wood alternatives are very popular building materials due to their aesthetic beauty, traditional look, and chemical free finish.

When you work with Refugia, know that you network with likeminded neighbors as concerned about conservation as you are. We create 'stepping stone gardens' that promote habitat connectivity for plants and wildlife for neighborhood nature conservation. Our long term goal is to not only restore species loss but over time, to reverse it - leading to enlarged and more resilient species populations better equipped to withstand normal population fluctuations for years to come. Collectively, our impact will make a difference.

Our design for the expansion and gut renovation of a small 1200 square foot house in a residential neighborhood triples is size, and reworks the living arrangement. The rear addition takes advantage of southern exposure with a "greenhouse" room that provides solar heat gain in winter, shading in summer, and a vast connection to the rear yard.
Architecturally, we used an approach we call "willful practicality." The new soaring ceiling ties together first and second floors in a dramatic volumetric expansion of space, while providing increased ventilation and daylighting from greenhouse to operable windows and skylights at the peak. Exterior pockets of space are created from curved forces pushing in from outside to form cedar clad porch and stoop.
Sustainable design is employed throughout all materials, energy systems and insulation. Masonry exterior walls and concrete floors provide thermal mass for the interior by insulating the exterior. An ERV system facilitates increased air changes and minimizes changes to the interior air temperature. Energy and water saving features and renewable, non-toxic materal selections are important aspects of the house design. Environmental community issues are addressed with a drywell in the side yard to mitigate rain runoff into the town sewer system. The long sloping south facing roof is in anticipation of future solar panels, with the standing seam metal roof providing anchoring opportunities for the panels.
The exterior walls are clad in stucco, cedar, and cement-fiber panels defining different areas of the house. Closed cell spray insulation is applied to exterior walls and roof, giving the house an "air-tight" seal against air infiltration and a high R-value. The ERV system provides the ventilation needed with this tight envelope. The interior comfort level and economizing are the beneficial results of the building methods and systems employed in the house.

Located in, Summit Park, Park City UT lies one of the most efficient houses in the country. The Summit Haus – designed and built by Chris Price of PCD+B, is an exploration in design and construction of advanced high performance housing. Seeing a rising demand for sustainable housing along with rising Carbon emissions leading to global warming, this house strives to show that sensible, good design can create spaces adequate for today’s housing demands while adhering to strict standards. The house was designed to meet the very rigid Passiv House rating system – 90% more efficient than a typical home in the area.
The house itself was intended to nestle neatly into the 45 degree sloped site and to take full advantage of the limited solar access and views. The views range from short, highly wooded views to a long corridor out towards the Uinta Mountain range towards the east. The house was designed and built based off Passiv Haus standards, and the framing and ventilation became critical elements to maintain such minimal energy requirements.
Zola triple-pane, tilt-and-turn Thermo uPVC windows contribute substantially to the home’s energy efficiency, and takes advantage of the beautiful surrounding of the location, including forrest views from the deck off of the kitchen.

Nestled into the hills of Portola Valley, California the structures open space carefully defines and details outdoor rooms and interior space. While this form naturally echoes its landscape and beauty it was able to maintain and score Gold in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
The Windy Hill Heaven residents incorporated sustainable aspects such as:
STRUCTURE // Passive-solar design, spray foam insulation, structurally insulated panel called (SIPs), and high efficiency low e windows
ELECTRICITY // Photovoltaic solar-panel array tied to the grid allowing this home to be net zero, Energy Star appliances, and energy efficient fans and lighting
HEATING AND COOLING // In-floor radiant hot-water and a highly efficient fireplace
SUSTAINABLE FEATURE // Native landscaping locally sourced building materials, low-VOC materials, paint and sealers. In all making this a very ECO-logically designed home

From the street, a round rock pathway leads to a small seating area next to the water with a small fire pit. Low maintenance, drought resistant and salt tolerant plantings were used in mass and clumps. This garden has become the focus of the neighborhood with many visitors stopping and enjoying what has become a neighborhood landmark. Located on the shores of Puget Sound in Washington State. Clean and simple define this 1200 square foot Portage Bay floating home. After living on the water for 10 years, the owner was familiar with the area’s history and concerned with environmental issues. With that in mind, she worked with Architect Ryan Mankoski of Ninebark Studios and Dyna to create a functional dwelling that honored its surroundings. The original 19th century log float was maintained as the foundation for the new home and some of the historic logs were salvaged and custom milled to create the distinctive interior wood paneling. The atrium space celebrates light and water with open and connected kitchen, living and dining areas. The bedroom, office and bathroom have a more intimate feel, like a waterside retreat. The rooftop and water-level decks extend and maximize the main living space. The materials for the home’s exterior include a mixture of structural steel and glass, and salvaged cedar blended with Cor ten steel panels. Locally milled reclaimed untreated cedar creates an environmentally sound rain and privacy screen.

Corten® steel siding was chosen to minimize the building facades’ impact on the visual environment, its minimal maintenance requirements and elimination of long-term environmental impacts typical of other siding choices (paints, VOC emissions, cleaning functions). Corten® provides a range of LEED certifications for MR 4.1/4.2, MR 2.1/2.2, MR 5.2/5.2 credits, is 100% recyclable, is made from recycled content and considerably curtails the life-cycle enthalpy of the project’s exterior materials.

The vegetated roof is planted with alpine seedums and helps with storm-water management. It not only absorbs rainfall to reduce runoff but it also respires, so heat gain in the summer is zero.
