Harmony and balance in a calm environment; the desires of the client which drove the design of the residence. The old residence, a 1,423 sf beachside bungalow was purchased by the client in an effort to down size and center their family. The new is a 2,350 sf entire redesign of the old building footprint which has created an open kitchen, living and dining space that connects the front of the home to the back yard. The design of an open concept home forced the client to examine their family dynamic and came to realize that they really enjoy being in the same place together. Numerous skylights, tall windows, wall cutouts, sliding patio doors, and even half wall showers in the bathrooms make for open, airy, naturally lit spaces that flow seamlessly into one another. The kitchen is a focal point as you enter the home and was designed so that the utilitarian features are tucked behind the main wall providing a clean yet fully functional space. Warmth was added to the main space using Scandinavian white oak flooring and a dining bench that is built into the floor-to-ceiling cedar feature wall. The same cedar was used to line the kitchen island and the closet wall in master bedroom. The front of the residence features an ocean view deck that is nicely complemented by one of numerous simple elongated roof planes.

The Shoshone residence is envisioned as a monumental limestone volume that will house an eclectic collection of art and sculpture. The project examines unique lighting conditions throughout the day by utilizing a series of curved light scoops to direct and filter the illumination. These light scoops vary in size and shape in order to materialize a distinct set of experiences throughout the residence. The project rises three stories connecting the ground level neighboring community gardens to the city-wide panorama from the roof deck above. The vertical circulation linking these moments is contained within the largest light scoop monitor.

The glass tiles of the backsplash are stacked in a straight pattern to deviate from the look of the typical brick stacking. Sandblasted glass cabinet fronts add personality to the scheme.

The dining space is located in the curved window space which provides views of the Atlantic. The table base which depicts Hercules holding up the glass table top has been carved from a single slab of quartz. A close examination of the table base reveals large crystals of quartz which the sculptor left intact. The plaid window dressings are limited to the right side and left side of the windows in order to leave the ocean views unobstructed. The area rug is an unusual combination of pink and yellow tufted wool Savonnerie.

Featured in this image is the Emma Crate, finished in mahogany wood with geometric designs. The Emma Crate functions both as an elegant end table and a comfortable, safe place for your furry friend to rest when you're out. With its classic design accented by the circular patterns, it is an unobtrusive option for stowing your pets.

Library Window Treatment
All the original furnishings, prints and artifacts are still in place with the exception of textiles. By the 1970's most of the textiles were quite faded and fibers on the back of window treatments had started to crumble. To protect the remnants, any textiles that were not permanently affixed to the wall were moved to climate controlled storage. Working with staff at the Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle, we examined these remnants and reviewed research documents. Copies of Mercer's receipts for fabric purchases are still on file! Using this information we sourced new materials and had our workroom custom replicate the original design.

The existing deck on the back of this house baked in the afternoon sun. The homeowners were looking to convert it into a screened porch they could enjoy. They also wanted the new porch to blend-in well and look like it had always been part of the house. We were able to accomplish that and create the “country” feel they wanted by using new board and batten siding on the interior along with a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams.
Project Included:
Examine existing foundation to confirm that it would support new structure
Build new screened porch using “Screeneze” system for screening installation
Install new siding and roofing to match the house as closely as possible
New Azek decking in Brownstone
New interior board and batten siding (Certainteed in Desert Tan)
New maintenance-free Azek post wraps and Boral trim
New Larson screen door

Modern renovation by J Design Group is stunning
J Design Group, an expert in luxury design, completed a new project in Tamarac, Florida, which involved the total interior remodeling of this home. We were so intrigued by the photos and design ideas, we decided to talk to J Design Group CEO, Jennifer Corredor. The concept behind the redesign was inspired by the client’s relocation.
Andrea Campbell: How did you get a feel for the client's aesthetic?
Jennifer Corredor: After a one-on-one with the Client, I could get a real sense of her aesthetics for this home and the type of furnishings she gravitated towards.
The redesign included a total interior remodeling of the client's home. All of this was done with the client's personal style in mind. Certain walls were removed to maximize the openness of the area and bathrooms were also demolished and reconstructed for a new layout. This included removing the old tiles and replacing with white 40” x 40” glass tiles for the main open living area which optimized the space immediately. Bedroom floors were dressed with exotic African Teak to introduce warmth to the space.
We also removed and replaced the outdated kitchen with a modern look and streamlined, state-of-the-art kitchen appliances. To introduce some color for the backsplash and match the client's taste, we introduced a splash of plum-colored glass behind the stove and kept the remaining backsplash with frosted glass. We then removed all the doors throughout the home and replaced with custom-made doors which were a combination of cherry with insert of frosted glass and stainless steel handles.
All interior lights were replaced with LED bulbs and stainless steel trims, including unique pendant and wall sconces that were also added. All bathrooms were totally gutted and remodeled with unique wall finishes, including an entire marble slab utilized in the master bath shower stall.
Once renovation of the home was completed, we proceeded to install beautiful high-end modern furniture for interior and exterior, from lines such as B&B Italia to complete a masterful design. One-of-a-kind and limited edition accessories and vases complimented the look with original art, most of which was custom-made for the home.
To complete the home, state of the art A/V system was introduced. The idea is always to enhance and amplify spaces in a way that is unique to the client and exceeds his/her expectations.
