This remodel of a mid century gem is located in the town of Lincoln, MA a hot bed of modernist homes inspired by Gropius’ own house built nearby in the 1940’s. By the time the house was built, modernism had evolved from the Gropius era, to incorporate the rural vibe of Lincoln with spectacular exposed wooden beams and deep overhangs. The design rejects the traditional New England house with its enclosing wall and inward posture. This is a raw basement transformation into a recreational space suitable for adults as well as three sons under age six. Pineapple House creates an open floor plan so natural light from two windows telegraphs throughout the interiors. For visual consistency, most walls are 10” wide, smoothly finished wood planks with nickel joints. With boys in mind, the furniture and materials are nearly indestructible –porcelain tile floors, wood and stone walls, wood ceilings, granite countertops, wooden chairs, stools and benches, a concrete-top dining table, metal display shelves and leather on the room's sectional, dining chair bottoms and game stools. Family room - eclectic family room idea in New York

The client was anticipating a 'country cottage' feel to his home when he purchased it. They were never really happy with it, until the pool showed up! The pool needed to feel like a meandering stream as it made it's way down to the lower level. Views were important, and keeping the rear pond view was paramount! So, by manipulating the shape of the pool, adding an oversize flag stone shelf in the water, and providing a soothing 'trickling' waterfall, the image was complete! From the rear patio it looks and feels like you are sitting next to a back country stream!
