Shelves and drawers galore help provide a home for everything. When our client dreamed about special features in the custom closet, a place for staging items and folding clothing came to mind. We made that dream come true by incorporating a large countertop onto the peninsula. This was all tied together in a white melamine finish, but you could use any color that works best for you. It was just about complete except for one troublesome area just below the window. The small area of unused space was transformed with the addition of the handy bench which can be used for a variety of things — including sitting and looking out the window.

Storage was an issue too so we borrowed space from the main floor bedroom closet and created a ‘butler’s pantry’. The client’s flair for the contemporary, original art, and love of bright colors is apparent in the materials, finishes and paint colors. Jewelry-like artisan pulls are repeated throughout the kitchen to pull it together. The Butler’s pantry provided extra storage for kitchen items and adds a little glam. The drawers are wrapped in leather with a Shagreen pattern (Asian sting ray). A creative mix of custom cabinetry materials includes gray washed white oak to complimented the new flooring and ground the mix of materials on the island, along with white gloss uppers and matte bright blue tall cabinets. With the exception of the artisan pulls used on the integrated dishwasher drawers and blue cabinets, push and touch latches were used to keep it as clean looking as possible. It’s also where Libby’s deep passion for rug design blossomed, thanks to her early role with Creative Matters as a junior salesperson and later, their Retail Coordinator. For this project Libby and her team partnered with them to revitalize their impressive office space in a turn of the century bank building at heart of Toronto’s west end. Creative Matters transformed their second-floor offices into a small showroom about seven years ago. However, after the pandemic, they recognized that their team’s working style had evolved, prompting a reimagining of their workspace. They relocated the showroom downstairs, removing the rows of cubicles to create a bright and open environment. This space is distinct, catering to the unique requirements of both the showroom and the team’s creative process. Our team focused on providing storage solutions, clean lines, and ample space, while maintaining the light and airy feel of the previous renovation but seamlessly integrating it into the main floor. Now, Creative Matters to warmly welcome clients and showcase their exceptional work. Many custom pieces are integrated in this office such as a custom collaborative work table on the second floor that has a hidden access panel for tech components. A custom bench in their lunchroom is a welcome and comfortable addition which creates a nice nest to connect and unwind.
