After more than twenty years living in their beloved home, this Alexandria, Virginia couple decided to move to a more transitional, contemporary aesthetic. Working with many of their existing furnishings, we transformed the library into a cozy, luminous space while giving the entryway that “wow” factor with a beautiful graphic grasscloth wallpaper. Last, but certainly not least, we added a contemporary twist to the dining room, incorporating an incredible piece of modern art, new seat cushions for the dining room chairs, and a modern LED chandelier.

We designed this causally elegant great room to be fun , bold and colorful - but most of all. to function for our client's needs.
This space features a built in sleeper sofa for guests , a lift top coffee table ( that doubles as a work station for our client) a wine cabinet for storage and an open concept that allows her to host family and friends with ease. The artwork was directly inspired by her love for travel and the fabrics/ textiles were selected with her beloved pooch in mind. To truly transform the space, we updated existing light fixtures and replaced time worn carpet with durable luxury vinyl. The results are stunning but most importantly , our client's needs for her lifestyle, were met.

The clients found a house they loved for two reasons…location, location, location (first reason) and the exterior style was similar to a beloved childhood home. They came to LaMantia inquiring as to the possibilities for the first floor. Armed with the clients’ “wants and desires” LaMantia designers Jackie Prazak and Andy LaMantia went about redesigning most of the first floor into an open floor plan fit for the young family.
LaMantia & Prazak found the key to providing the enlarged feeling was through the poorly designed existing home addition. The additional living space was difficult to access, thus providing no useful function to the home.
Completely removing the original exterior walls of the home that blocked access into the addition was the first step in the plan. With the walls removed, the original walled-off space became a part of the home. Relocating the first floor Powder Room, revising the entry closet, removing the wall into the kitchen and resizing the Living Room all were key components to the final rebirth of the larger picture.
To finalize the new kitchen space, it was suggested to raise the Bay window unit thus allowing the relocated sink location. With all the revisions, the Kitchen now could easily accommodate a stretched out “L” layout with a large seated Island and a separate desk area.
With the final plans in place, the clients were amazed to find that within the existing walls of their newly purchased home they had gained so much extra use. And…the very last prize they gained was a dreamed of Mudroom!

Accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, are a way for homeowners to maintain their existing house and create new living quarters on their property. Whether they choose to use it as a guest house, a long term rental, or additional entertainment space, the rise in ADUs have turned them into a statewide phenomenon.
The client, a colorful 92 year-old, worked as an interior designer since the 70’s. She has designed a hotel or a few and even her own family home. She started with a single-story house in Venice, expanded it under her own direction to two stories to raise her family and now looks to downsize back to smaller quarters with the construction of a new ADU right in her backyard. She comissioned Venn Studio to design a smaller more contemporary version of the front house where she could enjoy a simpler life. A sloped white volume perched atop a stucco podium situated next to the existing garage; just enough space for her beloved iMac, favorite furniture, and maybe even a David Hockney too.

Stylish brewery owners with airline miles that match George Clooney’s decided to hire Regan Baker Design to transform their beloved Duboce Park second home into an organic modern oasis reflecting their modern aesthetic and sustainable, green conscience lifestyle. From hops to floors, we worked extensively with our design savvy clients to provide a new footprint for their kitchen, dining and living room area, redesigned three bathrooms, reconfigured and designed the master suite, and replaced an existing spiral staircase with a new modern, steel staircase. We collaborated with an architect to expedite the permit process, as well as hired a structural engineer to help with the new loads from removing the stairs and load bearing walls in the kitchen and Master bedroom. We also used LED light fixtures, FSC certified cabinetry and low VOC paint finishes.
Regan Baker Design was responsible for the overall schematics, design development, construction documentation, construction administration, as well as the selection and procurement of all fixtures, cabinets, equipment, furniture, and accessories.

A Complete Room Makeover…
We began by scraping the popcorn ceiling. We repaired the wall texture, after removing the thirty year old intercoms and other outdated technology. Next, we eagerly pulled out the carpet, which still had the remaining smell of the owner's beloved family pets. Couldn't get the carpet out fast enough! LOL! We primed and painted all the walls, ceiling, existing crown molding and the medallion. Installed and painted new baseboards and added new engineered hardwood floors.
Then the fun began...
The ceiling is gold leaf...
The wall design is one of my custom stencils...
The palette is gray, white, linen, gold and silver…
The end result are neutral, fresh and timeless...
Sweet Dreams!

A canvas-like linen was used as a headboard in the guest bedroom. It has a leather trim and is hung with oversized iron nails. And a spiffy hanging plant about the faux headboard completes the look.
