The existing coffee table and end tables stayed in the room, providing a sense of something old and something new, again connecting and creating a timeless feeling that this room has always existed this way in this home. This adds to that Southern family heirloom feeling and charm, where some items are well loved pieces and others are new and connected to the personality of the home owner.

Plants and greenery are important in every room. They symbolize life and balance and anchor the room. The mirror above the plant serves several purposes, it helps reflect light around the room, by day with sunlight streaming through the doors, and at night by reflecting the glow of light from the lamps on the other side of the room. The mirror in white washed and wood continues the rustic/aged look. The intention of this design is to say: this coastal home has been loved and shared for generations here on the coast, making one forget that they've just walked into an apartment. Intuitively, this gives my client the feeling of being "settled and secure", helping her not feel as uneasy as one does when they move to a new home.

While we gathered most of her Chinoiserie collection on the bookcase, we continued the look around her room, including this chinoiserie pot here holding an orchid, which we placed on her gorgeous new Hooker Furniture Sorella sideboard that we added into the room from Perigold.

Home office - eclectic light wood floor home office idea in Denver with blue walls

I flanked the fireplace with two green velvet chairs and some artwork and began to decorate the mantel. Since the bright colors of Fall can be seen in all their glory outside all of my windows, I decide this year I could temper my seasonal style indoors with a more subdued display. My decor inspiration this year was Scottish Highland. I imagined how Fall might look in an old European manor, where branches and berries and leaves were gathered together and placed on the mantel in a family heirloom vase. Next to these items I pictured books gathered and candlesticks with pumpkins and gourds. The effect would feel 'decorated', but natural, a classic gathering of the outdoors moving in, in an elegant way where home and nature blend in a sophisticated Scottish style.
