When the owner supplied us with building plans they were incomplete and lacked the appropriate structural engineering. Once revised, it required additional framing material and labor. The revisions added to the cost and took more time. When an owner acknowledges these changes he should understand these costs – not refuse to pay them.
When the owner changes his mind and adds over 60 upgrades to the original agreement, he again should realize that would inflate the cost of the home, and he should be honest and agree to pay them per his request.
When the owner requires we order windows from Europe, he should realize that will add time for delivery and delay completion of the home. Waiting on the window delivery caused delays on other facets of the home that couldn’t proceed without the windows being installed.
When the owner refuses to pay multiple monthly invoices, it left us no other choice than to stop work on the home.
We value transparency when we build. We are open and up front with our costs and expect our clients to be the same with us. This process has made us a successful, well-respected building partner, of which we do get invited back to enjoy a BBQ in our client’s beautiful home.
