This addition and extensive interior renovation optimizes front and rear river views, natural light and indoor / outdoor integration. The use of craftsman detailing – adding a front porch – makes this home naturally inviting, functional and extremely livable.
The design was challenged due to the waterfront lot restrictions, lot coverage restrictions (car port instead of garage), slope stability challenges and septic restrictions (only 15% of existing footprint was allowed). The rear eating area / sunroom addition was built on pillars to achieve septic clearances. The second storey addition utilized sloped ceilings, which finished at 10 ft. in order to create spacial volume. Open to below areas allow more sunlight in and help achieve square footage requirements. The carport helped meet lot coverage restrictions, but more importantly, helped lessen the environmental impact. Driveways and walkways feature natural stone for water runoff.
The home exceeded the design objectives by maintaining formal entertaining, by eliminating walls and organizing spaces, creating comfortable family areas and by introducing natural light throughout the home.

When the homeowners purchased this sprawling 1950’s rambler, the aesthetics would have discouraged all but the most intrepid. The décor was an unfortunate time capsule from the early 70s. And not in the cool way - in the what-were-they-thinking way. When unsightly wall-to-wall carpeting and heavy obtrusive draperies were removed, they discovered the room rested on a slab. Knowing carpet or vinyl was not a desirable option, they selected honed marble. Situated between the formal living room and kitchen, the family room is now a perfect spot for casual lounging in front of the television. The space proffers additional duty for hosting casual meals in front of the fireplace and rowdy game nights. The designer’s inspiration for a room resembling a cozy club came from an English pub located in the countryside of Cotswold. With extreme winters and cold feet, they installed radiant heat under the marble to achieve year 'round warmth. The time-honored, existing millwork was painted the same shade of British racing green adorning the adjacent kitchen's judiciously-chosen details. Reclaimed light fixtures both flanking the walls and suspended from the ceiling are dimmable to add to the room's cozy charms. Floor-to-ceiling windows on either side of the space provide ample natural light to provide relief to the sumptuous color palette. A whimsical collection of art, artifacts and textiles buttress the club atmosphere.

The exclusive extendable table SPINNAKER draws its expressive force by a strict and extremely modern design which enhances the solidity of the material and at the same time the lightness of the plan. Able to accommodate up to twelve people comfortably seated, it is a practical and fast, ideal for invitations "last moment" and to satisfy the desire to stay together and to share fully their homes and their spaces. Characterized by an opening flap which is activated by sliding the top along the guides, SPINNAKER has the floor in solid teak slats and the structure of the legs, with a geometric design and the continuous line, stainless steel painted for outdoor use, in the colors smoke and milk.

Ligne Roset Manarola Sofa

In 2016, Philippe Nigro set himself a new challenge : to reinvent the extreme comfort of the Ligne Roset all-foam seating of the Seventies. With Manarola, Philippe Nigro has designed a new type of seating which offers remarkable comfort and a very welcoming appearance. To achieve this, the whole seat seems like a single large cushion placed on a light yet assertive base.
The metal frame which lends it shape is enveloped in foam and the upholstered part of the seat rests on the elegant solid wood buttresses supporting the back which make up the base. The armchair is also available on a circular steel base in a brilliant-polished stainless steel finish, which rotates 360°. To complement this there is a footstool with 4 steel legs, also in a brilliant-polished stainless steel finish.
Then, thanks to the ultra-flexible new polyurethane foams, Philippe Nigro refines the initial welcoming feel and the feeling of softness which comes with use, making good use of the carefully-judged slopes of the backward-slanting seat, lumbar support and headrest, emphasized by horizontal bands of stitching.

The tightly constrained footprint of the affectionately named “Box on the Rock” is a response to a limited budget and difficult site. Shallow underground hillside waterways run across the site often daylighting in unexpected and unwanted locations. These necessitated relatively expensive pier footings thus motivating an extremely efficient 2,000 sq ft footprint. With no initial resources to develop the wild scrub and rock landscape of the 3-acre property, the home becomes a lone outpost settling the higher ground of the larger natural site --a literal box on a rock.
Given these limitations, the architecture of this outpost needs to provide for all indoor and outdoor functions within its area. With the extremes of the wine country microclimate on the exposed site, this becomes an even more critical requirement for year-round comfort. The central courtyard and the cantilevered deck are strategically carved out of the diagrammatic box to ensure that over the course of the day, temperate options for both sun and shade are always available. In particular, the geometry of the overhang at the front cantilevered deck and the inward angle of its exterior glass walls are carefully calibrated to capture morning sun and winter warming while shielding the internal space from the harshest summer glare. Later in the day the central courtyard comes alive as the sunniest developed outdoor space, yet one that is naturally cooled by capturing the valley cross breezes.
With an economy of means, this simple form morphs to amplify the experience of the dramatic site and create an expansive feeling home that belies its small footprint. Each adjustment to the diagrammatic box negotiates the functional and environmental needs to foster self-contained and site-specific living with a minimal environmental impact.

Before this shower was extremely dangerous for my clients. It contained a step down to get into the shower. For an 55+ community this is not safe. We designed it to be safe easy transitional flow getting into the shower and out of the shower. We eliminated the curb and the step down recessed floor. We raised the floor flush with the current floor and made the shower floor slope towards the drain. We also bumped out and enlarged the shower for added room. As you can see to enhance the value we ran the porcelain tile and accent tile mosaic all the way up to the ceiling. We added 2 wall niches for the clients shampoos, soaps and accessories. We added the flexibility of the teak bench for comfort and functional use. We added grab bar for client's safety.

This 5-story 1860’s Brooklyn townhouse features Zola’s triple-glazed Thermo Clad windows and doors in pine.
Finding high performance windows that were large and quality-crafted was an important aspect of combining the passive house standard with the original intent of a top-notch design and tasteful renovation of the historic home.
Zola’s Thermo Clad windows and door line fit the bill. The home is extremely comfortable and energy-efficient. According to Laura Mackall, they did not turn the heat on all winter, and the inside temperatures stayed at around 70 degrees inspite of record-low temperatures in New York City this past winter. Architect Louis Mackall was impressed with level of insulation afforded by Zola windows and doors.

This fabulous great room boasts extremely large windows to bring the gorgeous exterior views into the home. In order to preserve the views, we opted for motorized solar shades which are virtually hidden from view when they are not in use. This client's favorite color is purple, so we were happy to incorporate that into our overall color scheme, blending it with neutral taupe and gray. The overall feel that was achieved is a house that is a relaxed and comfortable cliff-side retreat, without having any sacrifice of sophistication or luxury.

The second you sit in the Carlotta Lounge Chair, an orderly, angular look gives way to extremely comfortable experience. It’s beautifully designed alchemy that brings together crisp geometry and that ‘I’d rather not get up now’ luxury.
Any shrink would be thrilled to have this at the office because the Shyam Sofa Bed has multiple personalities. Squared away and inviting. Side cushions that fold up separately. And of course a fully flat configuration for those soul searching sessions. With the Shyam Sofa Bed the doctor is always in.

To create an outdoor space that’s usable in Vegas’ extreme climate, the designers needed a way to keep out heat in the summer and retain warmth in the winter. It was also important to block out bugs and harmful UV rays.
Phantom’s motorized screens were added so the homeowners could feel like they’re outside without being barraged by the elements. They can now comfortably dine and entertain guests outdoor all year round without having to worry about pesky insects or dangerous UV rays.
“[Phantom’s Screens] truly allow us to create usable outdoor space, dramatically increasing liveability and the function of the home’s fantastic design.”

On a picturesque lake in Crandon, Wisconsin, this rustic-modern cabin was designed as a year-round lakeside retreat for indoor-outdoor living. NanaWall's five-panel NW Aluminum 640 folding glass system was chosen for its weather performance, durability, and elegance — connecting the living area to panoramic lake views while standing up to Wisconsin winters with no heat loss and comfortable interiors even with snow piled against the glass. A specified swing door keeps the system fully operable in extreme weather, and a low-profile threshold makes the indoor-outdoor transition effortless. Named NanaWall's 2024 NanaAwards Patio Project of the Year. "We are the talk of the lake due to our NanaWall... we just can't get enough of the outdoors that our NanaWall provides," said the homeowners.

The 5 Piece Cypress Chat Set by Forever Patio provides a stylish setting for one-on-one time out on your patio or deck. The set seats 4 adults comfortably, and includes 4 matching club chairs. Also included are cushions covered in fade and mildew-resistant Sunbrella fabric, available in a wide selection of colors. The sweeping armrests and wonderfully textured wicker combined with your choice of fabric will make this set your go-to spot for outdoor relaxation.
