We had the awesome opportunity to complete this 8ft Western Red Cedar board-on-board privacy fence that included metal gate frames with industrial hinges and 2x6 single stage trim cap. We used exterior rated GRK screws for 100% of the installation, not a single nail on the entire project. The project also included demolition and removal of a failed retaining wall followed by the form up and pouring of a new 24” tall concrete retaining wall. I wanted a large, simple trellis to fill a blank, uninteresting wall that forms the main approach to my front door. I chose a plant (Espalier Camellia) that would not grow into the brick and mortar since I have read this can compromise the integrity of the brickwork and is difficult to remove. The challenge was finding a large enough trellis that would also look good. I thought metal would be the best material for the trellis since I knew it would be durable over the years and I worried that a wooden trellis would start to fall apart from moisture and under the weight of the mature plants as they grew. I did not want my trellis to start failing just as my plants were reaching their most beautiful stage! I found some rod iron trellises but, they were all too small and not nearly the height and scale I needed. The Garden Metalwork trellis was perfect since it had a beautiful dark bronze finish and because the metal is aluminum it was also lightweight and very durable. A rod iron trellis (if you could find one) in the size of the Garden Metalwork aluminum trellis would weigh a ton! Now I have a worry-free, beautiful trellis for my plants to climb that will last for years and continue to get more beautiful over time. The wall already looks so much better since the trellis adds dimension with a material that compliments the brickwork. And once the plants form around the trellis it will be a beautiful focal point to my entranceway!

This Castle Pines landscape transformation was designed for a newer home with strict HOA requirements, significant drainage challenges and large slopes across both the front and backyard. Griffith Designs created a customized, HOA-compatible landscape plan focused on extremely low maintenance, water-wise performance and lasting curb appeal. Failing and poorly suited plant material was removed and replaced with resilient, drought-tolerant shrubs and perennials selected for Colorado’s climate. Seasonal pops of color keep the landscape visually interesting throughout the year, while existing shrubs were selectively trimmed and retained where they continued to complement the new design. The irrigation system was expanded to support all new planting areas and encourage healthy, efficient growth. In the backyard, two custom raised garden beds near the fire-pit area create a tailored focal point and add dimension to the outdoor living space. Existing backyard plantings were also replaced with more durable, water-wise varieties. Refreshed hardscape materials, rock, mulch and planting-bed finishes bring the entire property together with a clean, cohesive appearance. Griffith Designs also prepared the landscape design for HOA review and approval, resulting in a polished Castle Pines xeriscape that addresses the property’s slopes and drainage conditions while meeting the homeowners’ desire for beauty, color and minimal upkeep.
