A one-story mudroom connects the garage to the house at the rear of the lot which required a local zoning variance. The resulting L-shaped plan and the central location of a glass-enclosed stair allow natural light to enter the home from multiple sides of nearly every room. The Arts & Crafts inspired detailing creates a familiar yet unique facade that is sympathetic to the character and scale of the neighborhood. A collaborative project with an Annapolis architect firm, the design team came to us with two main priorities for this project: first, preserve their majestic waterfront views and second, create comfortable rooms to entertain their family and guests. Soft, ethereal draperies anchor the picturesque bay window in the master bedroom. Motorized traversing panels in the second floor bedrooms stack off the windows to expose the scenic waterfront, and when closed, darken the rooms for peaceful sleeping. A stage coach valance in a casual stripe pattern, complete with nautical rope ties, provides a fun finish to the well appointed grandchild’s room. Familiar family heirloom furniture pieces were updated and upholstered with welcoming fabrics. Seat cushions and pillows for the rotunda’s custom bench create a cozy place to sit, relax and read a book.

Transforming this long-standing home on Bradgate Rd required more than a simple update—it called for a careful balance between renewal, structure, and respect for what was already there. The existing brick bungalow had strong bones, but the exterior was deteriorating, the carport was underutilized, and key interior spaces no longer supported the homeowners’ needs. Having lived in the home for decades, the goal wasn’t to start over—it was to rework the home into a more functional, comfortable space that could support the years ahead. The scope included a full exterior masonry refresh, where the front layer of brick was removed and replaced while maintaining the integrity of the original structure. The carport was fully enclosed and integrated into the home as a garage, and a new roof tied everything together with consistent detailing and long-term performance in mind. Inside, the layout was carefully reworked to introduce a new primary ensuite and completely renovate the main bathroom. Plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems were updated throughout, with a focus on accessibility, ease of use, and everyday comfort. The result is a home that feels both familiar and elevated—where thoughtful construction and refined design come together to support long-term living without compromising character.

This Fishtown rowhome refresh started with a familiar challenge: a sea of flat, builder-grade finishes in predictable “millennial gray.” Our clients wanted a home that felt layered, lived-in, and full of personality. They desired something that reflected their style, not just a resale checklist. We reworked two full floors to bring in warmth, character, and thoughtful details. On the main level, we introduced rich textures, vintage accents, and a more intentional palette that made a statement. Powerful punches of wallpaper, uniquely different but graciously coordinating, transformed key moments into standout spaces. Upstairs, updates to the kitchen and dining area emphasized comfort, functionality, and bold sophistication. Throughout, we layered in materials with soul: natural woods, warm metals, and handcrafted touches, all while keeping the overall footprint and layout intact. Built-ins in the living area brought much-needed storage, style, and a grounded focal point to anchor the space. The result is a home that feels personal yet timeless. A clear departure from the gray-washed norm.

The bedrooms & formal sitting areas in this historical home got an update with new Hunter Douglas shades, new drapery hardware, and custom working drapery from the AHD Workroom. Our team worked with the clients to take an idea and make it into reality for their home, and we are so pleased with the results.

This modern twist of original mid-century style combined with an eclectic fusion of modern day materials and concepts fills the room with a powerful presence while maintaining its clean lined austerity and elegance. As part of the full remodel of this Arden Park home, we modernized the facade with a horizontal Mahogany plank treatment. The outside corners of the facade were detailed by our fine craftsmen with interlocking dovetail joinery.

When Blues music legend and fourth generation builder, Albert Cummings and his interior designer wife, Christina decided to build their forever home in the Berkshire Mountains, they knew they wanted Wood-Mode cabinetry throughout. After specifying Wood-Mode in many of their customers’ homes, the Cummings collaborated with Wood-Mode dealer Vonnie Marcyoniak of Kitchens & Baths by Herzenberg to translate their vision into ideal spaces within their own build. The “House That Blues Built” features spaces inspired by the homeowners’ vision and unique background. The Cummings put enormous thought into every space of their home, spending years collecting the design ideas they would eventually incorporate. It is Wood-Mode’s craftmanship they were familiar with and wanted the “feel” of their cabinetry – a quality that they know will last a lifetime – and the finishing touches inside each drawer and behind every cabinet. Starting in the kitchen where Christina gave a lot of thought to how the space would be used, pulling inspiration from a range hood, and incorporating furniture details such as the Vintage Navy Blue island that would become the focal point of the room. Taking advantage of the kitchen’s 10 foot ceilings, upper glass front cabinets were designed to safely store yet publicly showcase heirloom cookie jars. Professional-grade appliances were selected, such as an integrated coffee machine, not only for appearance but because of Christina’s love for cooking and entertaining. Christina shared that her favorite room in the house is the pantry, which is open and visible to the kitchen. Fitted with floor to ceiling cabinets in the same Vintage Navy Blue as the island, the space includes floating walnut shelves and a farmhouse sink with a mountaintop view. The most innovative space of the home can be found on the lower floor in the guitar bar. Designed for acoustic perfection, the space includes a full-size bar where friends and family can gather to enjoy nights of music. To create the look and feel of a New Orleans Blues Bar, the Cummings’ chose Plain Sawn American Oak, which provides an interesting texture, and then finished it in an Ebony stain. The purchasers of this Roland Park home had a long standing relationship with PBA, having successfully completing several projects on two previous homes with the firm. Therefore, the level of trust and familiarity allowed for a very aggressive design and construction schedule. The project included the creation of a new mud room within the footprint of an existing covered porch, the renovation of 4 bathrooms within the house, the re-tasking of various rooms throughout the house, introduction of new lighting and building systems, the renovation of a laundry, the creation of a “bunk room” on the third floor, restoration and repair of various exterior elements, significant landscaping, and creation of a spectacular “man cave” in a previously dreary basement.
